The only improvement I would suggest, for a dance lesson, is the mirrors could be a bit bigger, so students can, more easily, see themselves and the teacher. After more than 12 years at Pompano Dance Studio, I wanted to share our experience…read more When my daughter began as a kindergartener, the studio was welcoming and supportive, helping her develop a genuine love for dance. She formed lasting friendships and spent much of her childhood there, and for many years we were grateful to be part of the community. In her final years in Company, however, our experience changed. One area where we saw room for improvement was communication. Concerns that were later described as significant were not shared with our family while there was still an opportunity to address them collaboratively. More timely and consistent communication could help families feel more included and supported. We also found it difficult at times to feel a consistent leadership presence, as the studio owner was not often on-site and was never present at competitions. Greater accessibility could help families more easily address questions or concerns as they arise. Twelve years of commitment ended with our dancers being told they were the problem. Just one week before intensive summer classes were scheduled to begin, families were informed that the competitive team intensives were canceled and that competitive dances were reduced to only three. The timing alone was upsetting, leaving dancers and families with little opportunity to make alternative plans. Wanting answers, the dancers tried to speak with the company director, and the owner then joined the conversation. The students attempted to express how they felt and discuss the decision with both the owner and teachers. Instead of feeling heard or respected, the girls left the meeting devastated. Several came out in tears, feeling dismissed and blamed after years of loyalty and commitment to the studio. As a parent present that evening, it was difficult to watch a close-knit group leave with those feelings, and it highlighted an opportunity for leadership to better connect with the dancers and truly listen to their perspectives. Over the past couple of years, I also felt there could have been a stronger emphasis on technical development during regular classes. While competition routines showcased the dancers' strengths, some recital pieces did not reflect the level of growth I had hoped to see. After 12 years, we expected honest communication, professionalism, and respect. Instead, many families were left feeling hurt by both the decision and the way it was delivered. Ultimately, our family chose to move on in search of an environment that emphasizes strong communication, mutual respect, positive mentorship, and continued development. Despite how our time ended, I remain grateful for the friendships my daughter built and the positive experiences she had during her early years at the studio. Those memories will always be meaningful to us. However, the way this group of young women was treated at the end does not reflect the studio's motto of "More Than Just Great Dancing." Based on our experience, the studio may be a good fit for recreational dancers, but for those seeking growth and development at a competitive level, it may not currently meet those expectations.

His dance experience ranges from hip-hop, ballet, ballroom, salsa and thats all I've asked him to teach me yet. Hip-hop and ballet is what we started with and I'm 32, so my dance experience level is ballet when I was young, and hip-hop- dancing with my friends. He is a great teacher, I never feel anything other than happy with him because you can always tell he loves what he's doing. I would recommend him to anyone, and have. He's even done classes with me and my boyfriend (BALLROOM!!!) and my boyfriend loved it. Jon Melendrez is a great dance teacher! My fiancé and I are in a difficult situation - we are long…read moredistance and he is working right now down in Florida. We had to find a dance instructor who would be able to teach us a wedding dance on the weekend. I called a few of the big-name studios in the Palm Beach area, and was told by one of them "We don't have teach on weekend - we work Monday through Friday, like regular people." Yikes! When I called Jon, he was super friendly and very accommodating with scheduling. We met with him this past Saturday for an intro session and to come up with a plan and, though he typically recommends more, we decided to go with 10 lessons because we aren't sure how many weekends I'll be down visiting before the wedding. We immediately got into learning steps and choreographing how we're going to dance to our song. We scheduled another appointment the next day as well. I thought about the steps over night and had some suggestions for the next day, which Jon changed and we have choreographed maybe 30-40% of the song already, after having only had two lessons! Jon has made this process very easy. My fiancé and I are not dancers. I have taken a few dance classes, and my fiancé has never taken any classes. We like dancing, but more hopping around informally in our living room. :) Jon made both of us feel very comfortable. He is not snobby or judgmental, and is full of jokes during the lesson, which makes the time fly by. He has thoughtful comments about how to improve our steps, and also video taped our routine so that we can practice it in between our next lesson in a few weeks (when I'll be down again). He also has worked with us to choreograph steps that we can actually dance. For example, my fiancé was having trouble with a particular box-step move and so we cut that part down and are doing something else instead, so he doesn't have stress out about doing it. I really appreciated that Jon didn't just press him to try to learn it, but suggested something else that my fiancé was comfortable with. I think that even though is scared of dancing in public, he is enjoying this as well, and by the time the wedding rolls around, we'll look great! :) I strongly recommend hiring Jon Melendrez to help you learn how to dance!
