There was an area to place our personal belongings, and the studio was clean and well taken care of. I'm totally convinced that Jessie is an alien- the way she infects people's spirits with her love of dance is definitely out of this worldly. I just finished a class she offered in Plantation outdoors, the neat thing was that about half of the class was entirely new, and the joy and smile on everyone's faces (I should add ridiculously sweaty faces) is just more evidence of how great Funk&Flow is! This year I am going to make it a resolution to make it out at least once a month for a class with Jessie, even though the studio is now a really far schlep from my residence. LISTEN- If you love music and/or dance you really should check this place out. Funk&Flow is a completely judgment free zone that is filled to the brim with sweet moves and good vibes. Do it!

Many people gave us attitude - "Really? You should've came to us months ago. It takes months to learn a dance!" Well, f-ing duh. But it's not like we have the time. Luckily, Uttara said she had some availability late at night (10pm) and we can come see her. She was very encouraging and told us anyone can learn a dance even with limited time. Of course, it would be very simple but anyone can learn... And we did in 2 lessons. I have to say that MANY times my feet, hands, and my body just do not coordinate well (that's why I no longer wear 4" heels, folks! Too much bruisin' in the tush!) and, frankly, I didn't care to learn at first. But she was supportive and encouraging and always positive. She taught us a simple dance to do at our wedding and I didn't suck. She is someone that you would go to and walk out wanting to learn more. I felt like I was no longer a lost cause. I have encountered many people who would give you condescending attitude like you're wasting their time. Not Uttara. She never showed it even if she thought it. I would definitely recommend her and if I ever want to learn to dance, I'd go to her!

The studio has a really great community of regulars and each week we got to see some familiar faces. At the end of all the lessons we did a "showcase" where we performed the dance in front of a group of people we had come to recognize through the many lessons and it was such a relief to get the nerves of performing in front of a bunch of people out of our system. The Foundry is a small neighborhood theater in Wilton Manors, just across the street from Union…read morerestaurant and next door to Island City Stage on Dixie Highway. Plays of Wilton makes its home at The Foundry, a 54 seat black box theater that is wheelchair accessible. Since there are only 4 rows of seats and the theater is small and intimate, almost any seat in the main section is a good seat. The seats are next to each other, so people sit tightly in this small venue. There are some side seats sometimes, but I do not recommend, since the angle of vision to the stage is not the best. Out of all the seats in the main area, I find seat B7 to be the best. There's a pole next to it and an aisle on the other side, so this is the one seat that is almost "private". The plays are mostly LGBTQ+ themed and based. The one I went to see called 10 Naked Men was not all nude. Actors stayed clothed most of the time, but the title sure got people excited about the show....LOL.... I have long admired Ronnie Larsen's work as a writer, director, and actor. Happy Ending deserved a…read moreNew York run. When I asked why he hadn't taken it there, he said the actors were "too demanding and difficult." I believed in the Foundry enough to personally contribute $5,000 in 2022. That same year, I brought him a play I had discovered from obscurity, then produced and directed in Los Angeles in 1997, which Encounters magazine named it one of the year's best theatrical experiences. Ronnie produced a staged reading at the Foundry where he allowed me to direct it. After the reading at the Foundry, he proclaimed to the audience that "It was the best staged reading in the history of his theatre." He then asked the audience whether he should produce it. The answer was an yes. He scheduled it for December 2023 and hired me to direct. When holiday conflicts cost me most of my cast, I asked in October for help recasting and for a meeting with the set designer. He cancelled the production, calling me "too demanding and difficult." The theatre has since announced Stray Dog Story, directed by Mr. Larsen. I hold no rights to that play, but the timing is disappointing and poor business practice as he promised that he would support me if I produced it elsewhere. This support did not happen. Theft? No. Hurtful and mean spirited? In my opinion yes. I remain grateful for the work I saw at the Foundry. Mr. Larsen which would give me pause if I were ever to decide to donate to a Theatre company again
