Three days before our wedding, with a first dance scheduled and zero experience or practice, we hurriedly tried to find a dance instructor willing to accept us as students. Many people gave us attitude - "Really? You should've came to us months ago. It takes months to learn a dance!" Well, f-ing duh. But it's not like we have the time. Luckily, Uttara said she had some availability late at night (10pm) and we can come see her. She was very encouraging and told us anyone can learn a dance even with limited time. Of course, it would be very simple but anyone can learn... And we did in 2 lessons. I have to say that MANY times my feet, hands, and my body just do not coordinate well (that's why I no longer wear 4" heels, folks! Too much bruisin' in the tush!) and, frankly, I didn't care to learn at first. But she was supportive and encouraging and always positive. She taught us a simple dance to do at our wedding and I didn't suck. She is someone that you would go to and walk out wanting to learn more. I felt like I was no longer a lost cause. I have encountered many people who would give you condescending attitude like you're wasting their time. Not Uttara. She never showed it even if she thought it. Uttara Vaidya was my first private ballroom instructor. I was in a dark time in my life, and I timidly requested to work with her on Cha-cha, Salsa, and Rhumba. Shes teaches American smooth style. I moved away so I don't get to see her anymore and I miss her. She taught me exactly how to do the Cuban hips, how to maintain form from the back of the shoulders and how to practice technique at home. I especially liked her Ginger chai when she brought it ti the studio. Also when I was in the hospital, she visited me a couple times bringing fruit the first time and a boombox for the second time to dance and show the hospital staff I dance well when I can actually walk. My fiancé and I signed up to learn a VERY ambitious Tango routine to surprise our wedding guests on our big day. Neither one of us has ever taken dance lessons. Needless to say, Miss Vaidya happily accepted the challenge to teach us. This dance is very complicated so she modified it for our skill level and choreographed a dance just for us with same level of smoldering intensity we want to convey. We couldn't be happier with the results and dedication we got. We shopped around and hit a lesson or two from groupon and highly rated Yelp reviewed places, before ultimately sticking with Dance With Panache. Not only was she able to choreograph 3 different styles of dance for our first dance (3 song mashup), but she was certainly within our budget. We loved the fact that she did less chit chat during our lesson and focused on actually learning the quick basics and getting straight to the point of dancing to our song. We know first hand that there are other places out there that have the same 45 min to 1 hour lesson, but so many instructors spend time talking, which to us, was time wasted. When you show up to your lesson, you will always get her full energy and devotion to ensure that you are leaving completely satisfied and having that confidence that it was a great lesson; whether you learned something new or worked on perfecting something specific. I believe we knocked it out of the park for our first dance and this would not have been possible getting an 8 lesson package anywhere else. If you are looking for a one on one type lesson, this is the place for you! Other locations have multiple lessons going on, where you begin to lose focus on what you should be doing or even just listening/hearing your instructor, because the proximity of someone else, or another couple. I dont know how many times we had to reschedule or push back our appointments, due to our upcoming wedding or just being exhausted from work, but it was never an issue. The customer service and care is unbeatable with Dance With Panache. Another great opportunity you will have here is that you can utilize the studio for a minimal charge, whenever it is convenient for you (when you dont have an appointment). I even called around looking for a studio that we could practice in that was closer to home, but the price was 3 times the amount. Thank you so much for everything! If you want a good teacher/coach, look no further. Uttara Vaidya is an accomplished professional dancer with a true love of dance. She is patient, very encouraging and simply a pleasure to work with. We initially signed up to learn the basics of Salsa and had so much fun that we signed up for another package of 10 lessons. Lessons can be intense and the time flies by... but as we gained more and more "muscle memory" and confidence our dancing skills continue to develop. And Uttara "arranges" social opportunities where her students and she can put the classroom lessons to practical use. Uttara is a dream come true! My husband and I met her just a few weeks before our wedding, thinking that it would be impossible to do what we were asking. When my husband (then fiancé), David, told me he wanted to take dance classes I was so thrilled and excited to get to work. I had taken dance classes in college to help my roommate who needed a dance partner for her elective dance course. I spent a semester learning how to be the lead, which ultimately created an interesting dynamic whenever David and I would dance together. I love dancing with Uttara. She makes it look so easy and she is amazing to watch perform. Although I take my dancing very serious, I find myself laughing and smiling for the entire class. I like the fact that she has a versatile knowledge in dance. I can work with Uttara on Ballroom Dances, Salsa, Argetine Tango or Bollywood. Learning to dance with Uttara really is as good as it gets, at least in my experience! I first discovered Uttara through an on-line review of a dance studio she was working at, and the guy leaving the review said that he always felt like he was enjoying music, but never really know how and when to move, so he would just stand "swaying in place."
