I took my car in years ago and was so impressed with their honesty, integrity, and quality that I had my entire family switch mechanics for the first time in decades. Not only do they not overcharge you, but they go out of their way to ensure you are aware that more affordable solutions can be possible or that no work may be required at all. In a world where you're unsure whether or not your mechanic is pulling a fast one on you, you can finally put your guard down at Northgate Automotive. The appreciation I have for how they operate runs so deep that when I realized I hadn't already written a five star review, I came back years later to ensure I gave them their flowers. If are this deep in the reviews, trying to find evidence of an Auto Shop that will treat you with respect and dignity, circle this review with the red pen. I've used this shop three separate times over the years because they're certified for Range Rover…read morerepairs and generally have positive reviews. The people I've dealt with have always been courteous and nice, which I appreciate. However, my overall experience has been frustrating due to the length of time my vehicle has spent in the shop, communication issues, and problems with the repairs. My first repair took approximately 4 1/2 months to complete. During a later repair, my vehicle was returned with an unfinished component underneath the front of the car, causing my tire to rub against it for nearly a year. Most recently, my vehicle was in the shop for about five weeks. Communication was also a challenge. I frequently had to contact the shop myself for updates, and I was often told the vehicle would be ready in a few days or the following week, only for the completion date to be pushed back repeatedly. I understand that delays can happen, but after three separate experiences, I expected more proactive communication, better quality control, and more reasonable turnaround times. I returned because of the shop's positive reviews and Range Rover certification, but after three separate repair experiences, I no longer feel confident that the repair timelines and quality control justify the inconvenience.

What a great guy! I took our Jeep to his shop, on a Friday, hoping he could find out why our Jeep…read morewouldn't run at idle without dying. We left the Jeep there about noon, and he said, "I can't promise, but we'll try to look at it before closing time". It turns out that we forgot to leave him the key for the lock on the engine compartment, so when he did try it was locked. So we came back at 6:30 PM (two hours after their closing time) and he was still there working on another vehicle, but he came over to look at our Jeep. He spent about 15 minutes looking at various things, then finally adjusted the mixture screws on the carburetor, and, voila, the Jeep was running great again. I asked him how much we owed him and he said, "no charge"! What a nice guy! And this isn't a one-off deal for me either. I've been using R&S for years, as a Tiburon resident, and every time, have been happy with the result.

Asked for a quote to mount/balance tires & setup TPMS…read more Quoted me $330 to change tires and another *$500* for TPMS programming and claimed it would take three hours to do. I spoke to America's Tire, Costco Tire, and another tire shop. I also posted to the forum for the car. Every single source told me it takes 5 minutes and they do it either 1) free as part of mounting/balancing or 2) roughly $10 per tire. Feels like they are just making up prices unfortunately, which is disappointing because they are so close and I would have loved to use them. FOLLOW-UP: Spoke to shop owner. He clarified, but the response is not exactly as stated. 1) the first quote was $330 + $500 for installation. I pressed and the guy insisted/mansplained me that it took 3 hours to do and he had done hundreds of them, 2) he then left me a voicemail, which I have, where he told me the updated price was $535 total, was it was not line item out as described. 3) the third call, the owner told me they would only charge TPMS if required but couldn't guarantee it and that he had to buy a $500 device and pay for updates every six months. My intent is not to harm a small shop, but I do think Yelp needs to be intellectually honest. The simple fact is that all three of the quotes he gave me were way off-market, and only when pressed did they revise their number. Don't love the revisionist history.

I paid a little extra to have an inspection done by Heynneman European, because they said they would devote almost an entire day to the car, whereas most places were only willing to spend an hour for about 1/2 the cost. I got a detailed written report as well as spoke on the phone with Gary and went over the problems with this car, about $3000 in repairs would be required. He even had descriptions about the little cosmetic flaws that helped me paint a picture of this car, as I only had photos to work from. In the end, the dealership wouldn't sell it to me for less than they were asking, an outrageous $13K, although they agreed to fix the problems. They had originally tried to talk me out of an inspection!! I'm glad I paid the money to find out what was really going on with this car. I'll let it be someone else's headache.
