    BOMB ALASKAAAAAAA
    Gurpreet S.

Press is my go to place when I want a slap up meal, I'm celebrating the weekend, or a special occasion on a weekday :) Basically it's got an awesome menu, food is cooked with love and served with the same love. You can really tell they use high quality ingredients and cuts of meat as everything is right on point - all the flavours and the fragrances. The Pork Belly came with two little taster type sides (types of mash) and some kind of sauce and salad and and and well I haven't got the words for it BUT it was just Spectacular. I can't remember the last time I had Pork Belly so good and with all the little treats that come with it. The service is particularly hospitable and although the seating is very communal I tend to find it doesn't bother me here. I keep coming back here for the icing on the cake - the bomb Alaska - so much fun and so delicious. 5 stars Press food and Wine.

Fabulous dinner at Press tonight. The service was fantastic and the chefs feed me menu superb. Nothing was a hassle, the right balance of attentive without being pretentious. Enjoyed every bite, great flavours. Good number of wines by the glass, only downside, bottle of sparkling expensive!! A nice (but exquisite) bottle of SA sparkling was the second cheapest on the menu at $85/ bottle. The next bottle $110 and onwards. (And the reason it didn't receive 5 stars - prob a 4.5 Star). It is the only downside on a really great meal and evening. I would definitely recommend it and go back again Also as an aside - a great support for local charity

    Valentine's day lunch.

Dear Adelaide, coming from Sydney, people talked a lot of smack about you (that means not so nice stuff) 'Why are you going to Adelaide?' topped the responses to my upcoming travel. Well my dear nay-sayers, Press Food and Wine could have been reason enough. So neener, neener. (that means 'suck it'). Went for a late lunch Valentine's day and not only were the staff unbelievably helpful. (Anyone who makes sure I have plenty of champagne in my glass is a friend of mine), the food was incredible. The specials were innovative and absolutely amazing, and the atmosphere was alive and friendly. So Sydney-siders, if you man-up and make the trip to Adelaide, dont miss this place. (neener, neener).

Almost cocktail, and our first two dishes.

I came to Press on a whim, to join a friend who was here from out of town, after wanting to go and try it since it first opened. We decided to splurge and get the tasting menu - "Let us feed you!" I ordered an Americano off of the 'almost cocktail' list. The tasting menu is $69 and went as follows... First course: An impeccably tasty and perfectly balanced salad that featured baby carrots, pomegranate, orange segments, cabbage and mint. Beef tartare... My first time trying raw beef and it was DELICIOUS! Probably my favourite dish. A fresh salmon dish that had a kind of creme fraiche with beetroot and radish disks. Second course: Pork sliders, the pork was salty and tender and came with a kewpie mayo. Chargrilled squid with a smoked hommus. This was the let down of the meal - just didn't do it for me, a bit boring and I didn't like the flavours. Third course: An absolutely PERFECT crispy pork belly with some kind of either pumpkin or sweet potato puree and olives. And tender, rare, delicious beef sliced and in a rich jus sort of sauce. Oh and the mashed potato. So good. Now, usually this would also be followed by dessert but one of my dining partners started feeling really ill sometime during course # 2 and we asked if they could change our bill a little if we went without dessert. Our waitress was so lovely and easy going about it and only charged us $60. Now, I am withholding 1 star as I feel unable to give 5 when I didn't try the dessert and when I was underwhelmed by one of the dishes (my fellow diners felt the same about the squid). The value for money was actually quite good considering the quantity and quality of the food. We were stuffed! Thanks Press, I think I'll be back for my next special occasion!

    Beef tartare (w egg yolk)

Our tasting menu was absolutely stunning. One of the best and most surprising meals that I have eaten in recent years. Among the dishes were various standouts. The fact that a salad may have taken the overall crown, is testament to the creativity and skill of the chef that put this menu together. The tasting menu had 10 (!) separate dishes in 4 courses and cost $68. An incredible value for money. Some more details on the food below: Course 1. 3 dishes: Pork sliders, Kingfish ceviche, and Beef tartare. In this course the ceviche dish with delicate carrot / pumpkin fritters was a.ma.zing. Definitely top 3 for the night. The beef tartare with a raw egg on top was also super good. Amazing flavors. Course 2. 3 dishes: Sweetbread, Wood grilled squid, and Quinoa salad The sweetbread was my first encounter with this 'gland' meat and couldn't have been happier. The texture was delicious as was the lightly fried crust and the spicy sauce. The quinoa salad with a range of well-matched ingredients and a dressing of pomegranate molasses that was from another planet. Hard to imagine that a salad could be *the* highlight in such a wonderful menu but this was truly amazing. 3 of 4 in our group voted this dish the winner for the night. Course 3. 2 dishes plus 2 sides: Pork belly, Rump steak, Mashed potatoes & Veggies. By this time we were starting to get very full already. The pork belly with cumin paste was very well prepared with fantastic crackling but, as testament to the amazing other dishes, not a stand-out. The rump steak with lightly pickled beet root & cabbage on the other hand, was. Sooo tender, such an fantastic combo of flavors. Unbelievable. Course 4 - 2 dishes: Crême brûlée & Frozen nougat The frozen nougat with cream and raspberry was a final highlight to a dinner full of fireworks. Amazing finale. Six stars for the food if I could give six. Serving was also very good. Place was a bit on the loud end; oh well.

    Bread to start the meal

Everyone's said it, and there's no use denying it, Press aint cheap. But hey, I love spending money. I've had two great meals at Press. The first was after a failed attempt to get enough people together for the suckling Berkshire pork, instead we met up anyway and I had the melt in your mouth pork belly and the very delicious brains (I don't think there's ever a point that will sound right, but gee they taste good). The second time I decided to go all out, so I asked for the tasting menu. Only problem was I was just one person, and usually it's shared by many. Thankfully they worked around my lonesome dining, and I got to enjoy 7 different courses for $60. It was extravagant but worth it. They have a great beer list, but be warned, they can easily run out. My first time I picked three different beers before finally settling on a fourth that was in stock, but as a nice touch the beer was free. They order all their beer through the Wheatsheaf Hotel, and so unfortunately don't have complete control over when they get it. Other drinks, like cocktails, are also good. I tried pink peppercorns for the first time here, and had some amazing oysters. It's all bundled together in a really nice dining room upstairs and more casual wooden bar area downstairs. Sure Press may be a sometimes food, but it's a darn good sometimes.

I realised how much I truly loved Press* when on my last visit I ventured out the four blocks from my hotel when it was only 4 degrees outside!!! I think most every return visit to Adelaide I make the pilgrimage here at least once :) To start with you can book upstairs in the main restaurant or drop in for the long tables experiences downstairs at the bar; during the week when travelling in business I have always been able to get a seat and there are generally other people who are similar visiting the city. The food has both some interesting small & larger plates; plus some comfort dishes for those travelling (highly recommend the burger); the wine list is worth a good look at as they have a few less common items and a number of organic style wines. The staff have so far all been above expectation their knowledge of the both food & wine menus; their comfort to assist & recommend dishes based on your likes etc. I have been fortunate to have enjoyed each visit here

Very good service and amazing food. Expect to pay a bit more but it's worth it. Recommend booking in a bit early to Seat upstairs. We just rocked up about 7pm and couldn't get in straight away but they took our number and called us when seats were available. Every course was spot on. Wine was ok too. In future we will Buy a bottle. The options by the glass weren't our favorite but someone has to drive!

Nice venue, casual dining venue. Fun, noisey, and casual. Hip and happening. Just read that the burgers were recommended, we had steak (excellent) and fish (nice but a bit salty). Not cheap though, dinner for two with nice bottle of wine came to $200!

It is a privileged position that I am currently in where I can be taken out to a place like Press for a work lunch and be treated to a proper full, long lunch spread. After being seated by a charming gentleman waiter, we were given ample time to collect ourselves and break the conversation ice before being offered drinks. I'm an easy drinker in that there is almost always something that I can find appealing on a drinks list, and the waiter made it even easier for me. Our conversation: Me: 'Hi. I'm after a lager. Something refreshing. Do you have Boags premium? W: 'No Boags, sorry sir.' Me: 'OK how about something German?' W: 'How about Austrian...we have Trumer pils?' Me: 'Done! 1 x Trumer please!' This light-hearted enjoyable banter continued on throughout the meal, including the waiter making me guess the spice inside the pork belly. It was cumin. I did not get the right answer (he had to tell me - *hangs head in shame*) Oh man, so much to say, already wasted so much space on the first drink!! Entrees were sublime. See photos for a better idea than what I could possibly describe. My favourites were probably the squid, the blood sausage and the beef tartare. Then, for the main event. I had heard about this from other people but wow, it really did not disappoint. Whole suckling pig, slow cooked with cumin and other spices, for about 4 and a half hours total I think the waiter said. The pig was expertly carved up in front of us like a circus show, teasing our tastebuds until all the tasty morsels were plated up. This thing (suckling pig) could easily feed 10 normal human beings. 8 of us fully grown adult men gorged and couldn't make it all the way through. Absolutely top quality cut of meat and superbly cooked. Some sides came out, but all of my focus at the time was on the swine. Absolutely delicious. I think I may have tried one or two of the awesome potatoes. We drank a Balnaves 2010 Shiraz throughout the entrees and mains, and it was smooth as silk. Highly recommend it if you can find it on a wine list. Service continued to be on point through dessert, with the waiter offering us sherrys and ports to perfectly match the dessert, which was a baby bombe Alaska and some other sweet thing (pie, maybe?)...by this point in the meal, I had become slightly catatonic from overconsumption but valiantly pushed on through. An Italian style pallet cleanser (alcoholic beverage similar to underberg) with a shaving of orange peel over ice finished us off and someone paid the bill. It could not have been a more perfect lunch to end a long week. I can't fault any part of my experience at Press. I am really looking forward to going back, even if it means that I open my wallet next time!

    Dirty mary
    Sheenal S.

We went here on a Tuesday for a team bonding dinner. The dinner was to be from their tasting menu. So basically a range of four entrees and a few mains to share followed by dessert. I started my dinner off with a dirty Mary which was a bloody Mary with spices. Basically tasted like a bloody Mary with Tabasco. Not for the non spice or pepper lovers. I then had their pink Dominican which contained rum and some pink looking liquor and a cherry. Delicious and easy to drink. For our entrees to share, we had veal croquettes, a salmon covered in mayo dish, some raw beef dish, and pork buns. The veal croquette was my favourite. What you bite into is some mashed up goodness bursting of flavour. Everything else was so so. For our mains we had the pork belly, roast beef and mushroom pie. The mushroom pie was nice with lots of chunky mushrooms but nothing special. We then waited over 30 minutes for our desserts. What arrived were the most disappointing desserts I've ever waited for and regretted waiting for. They call this thing the bombastic which is a stale doughnut or cronut with something gooey inside on top of a bed of strawberry jam and served with ice cream. It tasted cold, stale and we left behind almost all of it even though it was to share between the three of us. The other dessert was the creme brulee, one of my favourite desserts and impossible to ever get a bad one but this restaurant managed to give us one that lacked flavour and tasted like flour. Again we didn't finish this one. The service was extremely slow with us receiving our meals over almost three and a half hours. The food is average and I wouldn't pay an arm and leg for it.

    Broken clam shells in dish
    Helen H.

Terrible service and not a high standard of food! I went here on a quiet Tuesday night with a friend and wish i went to Melt or Georges instead. The service was terrible, we felt unwelcome and like an inconvenience to the many staff on shift. It seemed like more staff than patrons and yet you still had to wait a while to get their attention. The food was not great either. Starters of pickles and glazed pork was yum but my mains of fish of the day was terrible. The portion of fish was tiny even though you pay $36 for it and the crispy fish skin was leathery and i had small bits of broken clam shells in my dish. Do yourself a favor and spend your money somewhere where is worth it, not this place.

We started out with the yellow fin tuna appetizer paired with the perfect Pinot Grigio, it was fabulous! The cubes of fresh tuna light coated in sesame seeds, the squash compote and paprika that delicately decorated the plate, Then there was the watermelon cubes that after enjoying your slice of tuna refreshed your pallet so perfectly before you enjoyed the next morsel of tuna, pleasantly back and forth with sips of the delicious well balanced Pinot Grigio. The quinoa, and fresh, sweet, tender, beets that surrounded the pork cutlet elevated it to a heavenly state, moist tender, delicious full of flavors, the greens on the plate accented it to a meal for the Gods. The Rib eye steak is nothing like you would ever expect to be served stateside. It was far above the average standard cut of restaurant steak. Moist, tender, and perfectly prepared. There was no need to chew the morsel, because once you placed it in your mouth your taste buds jump-up in excitement. I heard they do good steaks but I was craving for a burger so being the smart me, I ordered a steak burger. Turns out there wasn't 20% off this one but it was a good deal of $10 with any drink of your choice! We also ordered the 300g rump steak and the Panko crumbed prawns, which consisted of a good serve of 10 prawns, tartare sauce, chips and salad. Much to my disappointment, my order was forgotten and I had to wait for half an hour before it arrived. The waitress was very kind and apologised for the delay and even offered me another drink! I was going to turn a blind eye to the food delay until I bit into my burger! The steak patty was chewy and I just could not take another bite. At this point, it was already past 8.30pm which is when the kitchen closes but the waitress was again, kind enough to re-make my order. I decided to swap to Panko crumbed prawns instead and they happily did it for me. Overall, I wouldn't say this was a completely bad experience. Yes, the steak burger is a definitely a no-no for me on my next visit but the rump steak, which I got to taste, was surprisingly quite tender. The good service also made my experience a whole lot better. Harry's bar has a nice old country pub feel as you enter, so I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a quiet spot to drink. They do also have partitions if you're wanting to organise your next function here.
