Minature spring rolls
Ngan Q.

It isn't often that I am disappointed with Radelaide's food scene. So when I rate a business less than three stars it mean that they didn't hit the mark on numerous elements. Upon entering, we looked around before spotting a staff in very casual street wear which easily blended in customers walking off the street. We were led into the back area which only had one other table occupied. The interior fitout was quirky chic. I enjoy the various murals that was found throughout the space. We ordered our meals, asking for our entree to come out with the mains. A little boy (one of the staff member's child) kept us entertained while we waited. Unsure whether having children in hospitality is breaching any legislations here. Food presentation was nice. It was appealing enough, but nothing great. Our entree spring rolls was super tiny. Not really happy about the size for the price we paid. Staff seemed confused on which spring rolls was which when we enquired about the different types. My noodle soup was bland and tasteless. I ended up assaulting it with chillies and pepper hoping it would enhance my food. My friend's fried noodles was ok, nothing to write home about. The ingredients was lack lustre and tasted semi-fresh. There was no wok flavour which is essential to making this dish great. Eventhough we came for a quick meal, we still expected freshness, quality and value for money but was disappointed on all aspects. Service was straddling between mediocre and poor. Will not come back in a hurry to this one, unfortunately.

Great night out to dinner with friends. Good but nowhere near the best love had

This review i write with a somewhat bitten tongue, I'm going to be more generous than it maybe deserves due to it being the night Adelaide United won the grand final and being a city restaurant had a full house for a Sunday night which is something probably not a standard for Phonatic. First of all, great staff. Really friendly and helpful trying really hard and the restaurant itself has a cool feel to it too. Seats are a little too close together for my liking, especially tonight as we had children at the table behind us making noise with the standard ignorant parents not doing a thing about it. Our group of four ordered several entrees all to be brought out before the mains..... They came ONE at a time. So each person had a crowd of four eyeing off the person eating there first course! When mine finally arrived. (10 minutes later) it was massivly over cooked and chewy (salt n pepper squid) we did send it back and the second effort was betTER but still far from the best I've had. At this point a good 10-15 minutes after out actual ordering we were told they had no flounder in which one of us had down as the main. All well and good, places run out of things.... But 10-15 minutes later after entrees to be told instead of when the order gets to the kitchen is ridiculous! It set back all the mains by another 20 or so minutes. The only saviour in this was we had a great group and good chat in between all this with good wine The BYO corkage another downfall being $15, most other Vietnamese restaurants we frequent max at $10 a bottle and some as little as $2!! They redeemed themselves with the main courses as far as flavour goes with the Pho, pork special and Snapper being quite nice and decent size too. The staff really did try hard and seemed to care but a lot was lacking here, won't be back myself as I have my favourite Vietnamese outside of Vietnam just 10 minutes further north. Left full and happy with the price, and company was the highlight. 6/10

We dropped by this place on a Friday night, it's on Hindley Street, there is street parking or there is a hidden paid parking which is located on a side street, you will probably miss it as your drive pass the restaurant, which is about a 2min walk from the place. Great place for either lunch, dinner or late snack for Vietnamese/Asian food with a trendy bar attached. There are stools to sit or booths. Upstairs were currently renovated at the time when I was there, which will be more room for customers for the night life. It was moderately busy on a Friday night, the staff were friendly and very busy that night in serving customers. The atmosphere was lovely with the happy customers that were mingling and drinking away at the bar. The wall is painted and decorated with heart. The owner has presented his family history on the walls, so you have to definitely check it out. Very trendy with history. I shared the entree, and ordered the quail. Pan fried Quail (Chim Cut Chien Don), marinated perfectly with a side of lemon juice/salt/pepper, tasted exceptionally well. I've had better elsewhere, I've had worse elsewhere. This was middle of the range, editable but still a delight to eat. Thumbs up! Next I shared the entree of Thai pandan chicken, wrapped in pandan leaf and deep fried until crispy. There was a side of sweet chili sauce for dipping. I removed the pandan leaf, it was still hot and bit into it. It tasted like... chicken :D with the flavours of the pandan, ginger, fish sauce and other spices. YUM! There are different types of Pho where you can mix and match different types of meat, I chose the Pho Tai Nam. Bò tái (sliced rare steak) and bò nam (flank). The bowl of pho arrived and the broth and bowl was hot, which is how it should be. The Bò tái always are slices that are raw and has to be cooked in the hot broth, so I mixed it in the bowl to allow cooking time. I add the herbs that is provided at the table which are some bean sprouts, mint, basil, coriander and a squeeze of lemon juice to add more flavour to this soup. It was quite filling, the broth was really good and delightful to eat. The soup was light and clear, with the aroma of beef and sliced onions, ginger and other spices. The noodles were fresh, flat and long which filled my belly up. Thumbs up! For my drink I ordered the avocado smoothie (sinh to bo), which is more of a dessert. It was pale green, rich and creamy, sweet from condensed milk and had consistency to it. Thumbs up! I'll definitely have to come back again to check out the bar scene and upstairs night life. Thumbs upx3!

Yum Saigon beer!
Cherae S.

I love Vietnamese and this didn't disappoint. Friendly welcome and an easy to navigate menu. They even had Saigon, the local beer! They have a broad phõ menu with a variety of other different dishes. Ours were served fresh and hot. Decor was funky and industrial with custom fittings and lights. Will be back!

Great Service & Good Food! Open Late!

The bartender Matt is amazingly awesome and will concoct whatever drink you can imagine. He does it with pleasure and his enthusiasm is infectious. Then there is the owner Anna , A wine connoisseur with the taste and talent to pair the perfect wine to the perfect dish. We started out with the yellow fin tuna appetizer paired with the perfect Pinot Grigio, it was fabulous! The cubes of fresh tuna light coated in sesame seeds, the squash compote and paprika that delicately decorated the plate, Then there was the watermelon cubes that after enjoying your slice of tuna refreshed your pallet so perfectly before you enjoyed the next morsel of tuna, pleasantly back and forth with sips of the delicious well balanced Pinot Grigio. It was like the opening act at the symphony, orchestra. For our main course, the orchestra conductor stepped up the tempo of harmonious delights. The presentation of food, the fabulous, delicious, flavors were all in synchronized harmony. My wife chose the pork cutlets I chose the rib eye Anna help us pair them with the perfect Pinot Noir from Adaline area. Magnificently, smooth and delicious, yet light spicy with light cherry notes that went well with our dinner this evening it paired magnificently. The meals: my wife's pork cutlet so soft and tender seasoned to perfection it naturally just falls apart in your mouth. The quinoa, and fresh, sweet, tender, beets that surrounded the pork cutlet elevated it to a heavenly state, moist tender, delicious full of flavors, the greens on the plate accented it to a meal for the Gods. The Rib eye steak is nothing like you would ever expect to be served stateside. It was far above the average standard cut of restaurant steak. Moist, tender, and perfectly prepared. There was no need to chew the morsel, because once you placed it in your mouth your taste buds jump-up in excitement. While dancing around in your mouth they made the morsel of ribeye, just melt away on your tongue. The green beans are as if they were just picked directly from the plant. The cherry tomatoes when you popped them in your mouth the juice and flavor of just one tiny tomato was like you had the most perfectly prepared bowl of fresh tomato soup in front of you. Each and every single morsel of this meal was like a Concerto in your mouth and you mind, simultaneously deleting, and enlightening each & everyone of the senses in your entire body. All of this in the Ambience of the 1860 treasury architectural design building. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you set up a reservation, set time a side and enjoy a fabulous meal, a fabulous wine, with a fabulous owner who knows her stuff. Anna is full of energy. She knows how to make sure each and every customer has the meal of their life! Bon appétit.

We decided to visit Harry's bar on Thursday evening for dinner as they were offering 20% off…read moreeverything on their menu from 4-8pm. I heard they do good steaks but I was craving for a burger so being the smart me, I ordered a steak burger. Turns out there wasn't 20% off this one but it was a good deal of $10 with any drink of your choice! We also ordered the 300g rump steak and the Panko crumbed prawns, which consisted of a good serve of 10 prawns, tartare sauce, chips and salad. Much to my disappointment, my order was forgotten and I had to wait for half an hour before it arrived. The waitress was very kind and apologised for the delay and even offered me another drink! I was going to turn a blind eye to the food delay until I bit into my burger! The steak patty was chewy and I just could not take another bite. At this point, it was already past 8.30pm which is when the kitchen closes but the waitress was again, kind enough to re-make my order. I decided to swap to Panko crumbed prawns instead and they happily did it for me. Overall, I wouldn't say this was a completely bad experience. Yes, the steak burger is a definitely a no-no for me on my next visit but the rump steak, which I got to taste, was surprisingly quite tender. The good service also made my experience a whole lot better. Harry's bar has a nice old country pub feel as you enter, so I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a quiet spot to drink. They do also have partitions if you're wanting to organise your next function here.

Maybe I didn't dig too deep into the place, or maybe it was just that it was only a sports bar, but when I came back here recently they had completely opened up the uppper level. Oh, as it is with Adelaide, sure enough when I wandered into this pub I ran straight into a couple of old friends of mine, so I ended up killing some time with them. They actually had a decent selection of beers on tap, and the balcony was also pretty cool. In fact it is a much better addition to the Adelaide pub scene that this place used to be.
