Meat! This restaurant embraces the wise and timeless words…read more"You can't make friends with salad!". The Glenelg BBQ Inn is the origin and home of the Man Meat Night. Approximately once a month myself and some of the lads (there are about 15 regulars now) get together for an onslaught of meat. Needless to say the fairer sex is not permitted due to the manliness required to consume as much meat as we do. My nickname is 'The Surgeon' on account of my preference to cutting all of the fat off before eating. The go is, at the BBQ Inn one must order a minimum of the Mixed Grill which is a porterhouse, lamb shashlik, 3 chevapchichis, a big-ass sausage and some token onion, tomato and potato salad. Any other order must be approved by the Man Meat Members present. Just to paint an even more 'enlightening' picture, mid meal 'dumps' are not uncommon. The first time this wondrous occasion occurred it was my two mates (brothers) and myself. At one point I began to turn white and the waitress was incredibly concerned with my well being. This was my first experience of the 'Meat Sweats', and certainly has not been my last! Anyplace that can give birth to something as amazing as Man Meat Nights has got to be sweet as, and the BBQ Inn is most certainly that! I have noticed the quality of meat has dropped a little in the last few years, but I tend to take a LOOOOONG time to eat my half cow, so if gets a little cold and tough! By the way....if I have inspired you to organise your own Man Meat Group remember that the aftermath is often unpleasant. I'll leave it at that!

Everytime I'm in Adelaide I always try to make at least one visit. First thing you see when you step inside is the bbq's and meat cabinet. Everything is freshly prepared while you wait. Go for the mixed grill as you get a decent selection of meats. You have to get at least one or of chevapchichis as they are amazing. The plates usually come with salad sides and the potato salad is very good. Well worth a visit whenever in the Glenelg area. Haven't had any problems with it but make a reservation just to be sure. Bring your appetite. Service is good and prices are very good.

It's such a shame that most reviews only happen after disappointment…read more I'll try not to follow that formula. We are staying at the Stamford in Glenelg so it only made sense to try their restaurant. After driving all day, we were rather exhausted, so happy to sit down for dinner early and a superficial look down the street did not seem to bode well for a quiet dinner. Probably a little too early and with the restaurant empty, I opted for their Singapore specials. Very quickly started off with entrees of vegetarian spring rolls and Singaporean curry puffs. Both nice and the curry puffs very well spiced but not exceptional. Then, although waiting staff were quite pleasant (perhaps the lovely young lady might have stopped chewing gum during service) and reasonably efficient we now waited almost an hour before the mains were served. As I was already exhausted this was quite a struggle but eventually my Nasi Goren's arrived. It was actually lovely. Well flavored and nicely prepared. Had an LPA to wash it all down and then retired for a good sleep

One of life's pleasures is an indulgent high tea. How about a Guinness World Record breaking…read moreattempt high tea, with 549 other guests, al fresco, on Glenelg pier? Who would dream up such a thing? The Stamford Grand as it turns out. With no advertising, the event sold out within 2 weeks. Sun shining and sea breeze blowing, we signed the Guinness World Record register for the World's Longest Cream Tea, found our seats, and were offered a glass of Jacobs Creek bubbles. Everyone was jolly, despite the increasing sea gusts, as we were all in it to support Novita Children's Services. We were dutifully informed that there was a contingency of Guinness World Record officials monitoring our every move. The defining act - taking at least one sip of tea and eating at least one bite of scone each - to secure the record. A tantalising glimpse at the menu tempted us as we sipped bubbly and were offered refills of our tea by a smiling steward. Before too long, and surprisingly quick given the huge amount of people to cater for, a two tier stand arrived laden with sandwiches, hot savouries including the Stamford Grand's signature curry (chicken) puff and tandoori chicken skewers, scones, and teeny cakes. There were fruit tarts, banana cake squares, mixed berry mouse, and mango pavlova's. Awaiting a special meal (vegetarian) I was informed that I would get my very own plate. Well given the chill wind I couldn't wait and did my bit for the Guinness World Record and sampled the scones and other sweets. The scones were perfectly warm and short, accompanied with a variety of jams and whipped cream. My favourite sweet was the fruit tart with lovely pastry, custard and glazed fruit. Having been marked off the register for the Record, my individual vegetarian plate arrived. It is most impressive that dietary considerations are accommodated for such a large scale event. Plus everything on the plate was delicious! A vegie skewer of barbequed veg had nice smokey and sweet flavour, there was a tasty samosa, finger sandwiches including pesto sun dried veg, guacamole, and salad, a piece of orange syrup cake, and carrot & walnut cake. It was at about this point that a particularly gusty burl of wind air lifted my mother in law's hat and sent it soaring effortlessly across the jetty onto the beach below. Justin Higgins, General Manager of the Stamford Grand shouted "I'll get it!" and so he did, collecting some sir lifted napkins and glasses at the same time. We had the opportunity to ask if the long high tea would happen again, and all signs point to yes due to the success. As the weather was closing in, once we had supped on the delicious goodies, we took to the promenade back along the jetty. Smiling staff, as on arrival, farewelled us, welcomed us back soon, and told us that if the world record bid was successful, that we could expect our certificates in the mail.

Interesting, pretty, inviting and you can see that actual thought was given rather than just plopping it on the plate. I was in a group of 7. The service was fast, efficient and friendly. Staff took the time to chat and smile, share their story of where they were from over taking your order or cracking your pepper! Everyone's food looked delicious. I order the chicken Mediterranean. The saltiness of the mash overpowered the delicate flavours of the apricot and stuffing, but it was still a good meal. Chicken was tender and I had the happy feeling at the end. All that counts right? Lol Save room for desserts and coffee. They have a nice selection. The tiramisu is a good size to share with a friend. Go on....get your romance on. I've only ever been here for coffee on a Sunday afternoon and the coffee is worth a mention but by all accounts they're better known for their Thai Food. They have a good selection of tables inside as well as a small but really cool outside area that is dog friendly. I wanna shout it from the roof top how awesome this place is! Yet I want to keep this not-so-secret…read moreto myself. Mestizo is nestled on the quieter end of Partridge Street where parking doesn't require a prayer-dance before leaving home. The decor is warm and simple, the staff - friendly. Friendly and happy to introduce their menu and dishes to you. Long wooden tables cater to group dining and on this night we were a group of 6. You could gaze over the pass and watch the chefs hard at work in the kitchen. This place has so much passion. The menu is simple - small dish, big dish. We couldn't decide, we didn't want to make a choice, we asked for the ultimate "Feed Me" experience and boy did they deliver. We ended up trying almost everything on the menu and NOTHING was even average. It was 100% fantastic. Brilliant exciting flavours, cooked perfectly, beautiful presentation. It makes me want to move to Peru. I ate ceviche and casava to my heart's content while crispy chicken wings had me licking my fingers. Out came a pork belly dish with flavoured rice, a chef's special pork and chickpeas, beef and more. All fab. As our stomachs were bursting we thought we could stay strong as there was no dessert menu. Ah but there was dessert. The one dessert of the day, served on a cold slab. Great presentation with many elements that come together perfectly. I highly recommend this place.

A Peruvian restaurant with a liquor license contains a rare choice of foods, all of which are delicious. Watch out though, their menus contain a lot of technical jargon which doesn't elaborate on what the words mean. This can leave you with a rather spicy meal! Despite the lack of digital footprint, the restaurant is very busy, often requiring a booking if you want a guaranteed seat. The wait for a table can be quite painful though and you might need to settle for the awkward low tables and slightly higher chairs. The food is minimal but filling and very tasty. There is currently only one desert option and the night we went, they had run out. Several of the food places that are open would benefit from more desert options, otherwise a night desert restaurant would be the next best thing.
