My wife and I have been sailing a few years on lakes in 25 footers and wanted to get out on some…read morebigger waters and on bigger boats. We also wanted formal training and certifications and we found this place online. We also thought seeing Virginia and the east coast a bit would have been a great time for my wife Brittany's birthday. So we flew to Virginia's SailTime courses instead of one of the the ones in our own state. We flew from California and I spoke with Connie and she was kind enough to let us stay on a 41 ft yacht (Adiona, a 41 ft Jenneua) for our stay in Virginia which saved us about half a grand on hotels. When we landed a lady named Brooke made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. When we got on board to unpack there was even a note waiting for us that said happy birthday. Brooke was a sweetheart for sure and we felt like family by the time we had set our bags down. She made sure of it. We met our captain the next morning. A man named Jim Lant who took us through our 101, 103 and 104 courses over the next 6 days. We had a GREAT time and I honestly didn't want to leave when we finished up our last tests. Those six days we sailed every day and every place we sailed too seemed to have friendly people there who all knew each other and our captain Jim. The first ocean sail my wife and I ever did together was from Norfolk to cape Charles and that's pretty cool. Well miss the people and sailing for sure! Everyone who loves sailing should come here and meet Connie, Jim and Brooke. You won't regret it and we won't ever forget it. Jim is the BEST captain.

Captain Jim was absolutely amazing. He was so patient and did such a fantastic job of teaching us about sailing and he allowed all of us to take part in one way or another. He was so good at including everyone and making sure each person received direct guidance from him. It's generally really hard to find activities that all 6 of us enjoy due to the age range but this turned out to be an absolutely perfect day. I would highly recommend Sailtime if you are thinking of trying this adventure! Working with them on scheduling was so easy and smooth as well. Be warned, you will want a sail boat afterward.....

I highly recommend them. The concern was my well being and that of their crew. With that level of concern I will sail with them when circumstances change.

The two of them make a great team. It's obvious from their introduction that they love sharing their passion of sailing with others. Before we even got to the dock I was in contact with Josh on the phone and email. He responded quickly and was happy to offer some amenities. Josh offered me a few pick up locations and offered to drop us at our hotel marina. Once on the boat we covered a quick but thorough safety brief. We toured the river before entering the bay. Carmelita and Josh made suggestions for restaurants and other activities on Solomons and pointed them out as we passed them. Our tour took us around Solomons Island and under the bridge at sunset. Carmelita took pictures of us the whole time and shared them with us after the tour. It was great talking with them about how they got into sailing and how they learned their craft. The boat was clean and appeared to be sound. On the way back lighting storms were surrounding us. The light show was really cool to watch. The storm was about 30 miles so there was no danger and we felt safe the Josh and Carmelita were keeping an eye on the weather. I would definitely recommend their tour or charter service. They were great hosts and provide a memorable experience. You should book your tour now.

I was Leary of the water conditions " (We gonna need a bigger boat), and was ready to say screw that! But you don't get a refund if you cancel or not show, so I muscled up. I will say the captain and mate( sorry I don't remember their names) but we sailed on the Alliance. It was a bit treacherous getting off the dock, but once out in the river it was cool. Sailing under the Coleman was cool as well. We met some nice people and the Captain and his mate were really friendly, my wife even got to help hoist the sails. Would I do again...yeah just on a calmer day.

If you go on a hot day, sit towards the front of the boat because you'll get any breeze that gets mustered up by the boat's movement. I'm not a boat person, and if it wasn't so hot out, I think I would have liked it better. The crew were so friendly and informative about how the boat works and they fired a cannon, which was neat. The drinks they offered were cold and went well with the boat riding. The chairs they have are plastic folding chairs, which ended up being more comfortable than expected.

Unless you have months to wait for your boat and have no regard for your money go someplace else…read more There are many boaters who do drop off their boats for six months and are happy to spend excessively on boat maintenance but if this is not what you want do not go to this business. There is not much competition in the area and I have gone here twice. Both times were for 2 week or less jobs that ended up being over 2 months. Rain, holidays, sick employees are all excuses for delayed work. This is an hourly business and a task that should take one or two hours will appear on the invoice as a ten or twelve, or more, hour tasks. Tasks where a power tool could be used will be done with a hand tool. Think hack saw instead of reciprocating saw and picture two employees operating the hacksaw at one time. It really happened! Your boat will be dirty, inside and out, when you finally get it back. Vendors who come in to do wax and bottom jobs are good and work very quickly and use time saving electric and pneumatic tools. Check everything before leaving. Look for tools and parts in the bilge. Check that everything works correctly like bow thruster pushes in the right direction and not rigged backwards. The invoice has been a jaw dropper both times. About a 30% charge above whatever a generous estimate would be for the work. The hour totals are unbelievable, if true then there is a very serious time management issue or there are integrity issues. I checked progress on the boat every other day based on my first experience and did not see the effort match the hours on the invoice. Little to no communication re the pace or work unless you initiate it. The yard is organized and customers are allowed to work on their boats while here, which is nice, but your boat will be there for a long time. Address every issue, delay, or questionable time management and status of your invoice frequently during the process because once the invoice is written the owner is not open to a discussion and will resort to the old chestnut "if I give you a discount, then do I have to give everyone a discount" as a response to a question about charging 24 hours of work to remove one part. Avoid this business if you plan to boat in the same year you want to get work done.
