It takes over an hour and a half to get to the island, which means that realistically you'll spend more time on the boat than at the destination. It's puzzling to me that their departure time is 10 AM; a little earlier would help out with that. The boat is okay, but clearly not new and it doesn't have a ton to offer during the ride, and I overheard that they don't run at maximum speed because it isn't economical. They also kind of strangely insisted on taking pictures of everyone and then trying to sell the pictures to us, which I didn't ask for and which might have been at least a more viable plan when everyone didn't just take their own pictures with their phone. Getting to the island, I have to say it was one of the saddest places I've ever traveled. Everywhere you looked, including the fishing structures on the way in, was destruction and decay. It has to be a strange feeling being a waterman working in one of those places and every day seeing the ruins of your neighbor's fishery after he either moved away or died. Similarly, the island had many abandoned houses, and others for sale. Don't get me wrong; I don't necessarily look at it as a reason not to go. Thinking about the history as you see the present can be a worthwhile endeavor. Due to limited time on the island, it's hard to see much. There were kayaks for rent and some interesting shallow areas, but I didn't see anyone taking that route. Most transit on the island is by golf cart and a few paid tours were available. The island is walkable in size. The beach is nice, but it's hard to really explore it in the time allotted, and given the waterlogged approach, golf carts or bikes don't really help that much. The island has a distinctive culture that is still preserved, but it really does not seem that amenable to tourism. I don't necessarily blame people for wanting to keep random passersby out of their yards, but it's just not the most welcoming environment, and it's hard to see any other path forward for the island than ecotourism at this point. I'm curious to visit nearby Smith Island as well. I don't know what the future holds for Tangier.

($40 instead of $35) The ride over was fine, choppy in some parts. It was really breezy on deck, so watch your hats if you're wearing one. I luckily had my strap around my neck. Seating below is comfortable. We had quite a lot of people on board and I saw a guy bringing plastic chairs aboard. Many folks chose to sit up top under an awning. They receded pretty close together, so that was not an option for me with Covid having a resurgence once again. I stayed mainly below, but came up to bask in the sun and breeze. It takes some balancing to walk across the deck. It's about an hour and a half each way. Slightly shorter if you are coming from Crissfield, Maryland.

Filthy environment, staff is surly and obviously hate their work. Poor business practices. lazy…read morestaff. The only appeal is that the ferry to Tangier island leaves from there. The disorganization is shocking. Do yourself a favor and dock elsewhere. This is not just my opinion. The owner probably does not know how lazy and nasty some of the staff are. He probably cannot find workers. What a mess.

They shuttled us into the Chesapeake Bay and got us on fish very quickly. Each veteran took turns reeling in Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. We could not have asked for better weather or seas. The fishing was so good we limited on bluefish by 1045 and missed our limit on mackerels by one. We cannot wait to work with Captain Billy and his team again.

I booked and made reservation at Harbour Inn- I love that I stayed at before. Approached by a spry lady, I was asked my name - she turned out to be the granddaughter of this 1926 New England Charter, Capt Iris. Very personable and knowledgable as she pointed out things along St Michaels banks e.g., The Perry Inn and the focal point filming of The wedding crashers. The name Selina, itself had family virtue and significance-pronounced different ways, the one I remember is as in Selena Gomez. We were also quizzed on how many tons the vessel weighed. My guess way low-16 tons!!. We marveled at the woodwork and upkeep of the ship and hours to maintain- not to mention gas cost. We were offered our choice of beverage- I had a tasty Chardonnay, although I'm not sure the brand. The first mate. Was agile at that point coasting in a nice spot to put up the sail, beautiful as the sky was starting to cast its evening glow with the sunset. It was truly relaxing as we made small talk about catfish and enjoyed the ambiance. I then had a second Pinot Noir however the water being a little choppy declined a third- we were Rockin ! a little with wind picking up. It was a very enjoyable outing and I would do it again in a heartbeat! Next time I want to be at the helm lol, if only for a photo shot. Speaking of photos...a picture paints a thousand words...btw the name means 'moonlight'

Billy and Mary, owners, are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Billy is probably the most knowledgeable fisherman on the bay and has written monthly fishing articles for the Rivah magazine for years. He'll get you on the fish! I've personally stayed in all three of their onsite rental properties and can't say enough how much we enjoy our stays. Having a boat ramp, fuel, and access to some of the best fishing grounds right at your back door, makes for an enjoyable visit that allows us to concentrate on what we love - fishing and boating.... Can't wait to come back - look forward to it every time/

I was Leary of the water conditions " (We gonna need a bigger boat), and was ready to say screw that! But you don't get a refund if you cancel or not show, so I muscled up. I will say the captain and mate( sorry I don't remember their names) but we sailed on the Alliance. It was a bit treacherous getting off the dock, but once out in the river it was cool. Sailing under the Coleman was cool as well. We met some nice people and the Captain and his mate were really friendly, my wife even got to help hoist the sails. Would I do again...yeah just on a calmer day.

If you go on a hot day, sit towards the front of the boat because you'll get any breeze that gets mustered up by the boat's movement. I'm not a boat person, and if it wasn't so hot out, I think I would have liked it better. The crew were so friendly and informative about how the boat works and they fired a cannon, which was neat. The drinks they offered were cold and went well with the boat riding. The chairs they have are plastic folding chairs, which ended up being more comfortable than expected.
