Poseidon is the closest bike-related outfit we found in Cape Charles. Even though we didn't rent the bike from Poseidon, Ray went right to work to repair the chain. Most of the links in his toolbox were sized for beach rentals and too wide for my daughter's bike chain; nonetheless, Ray engineered a solution on the spot. After a few adjustments the chain engaged smoothly thru the gears. The bike now rides beautifully! Ray did not expect payment for his kind service, even though he spent considerable time with the repair. Ray was determined to find a fix, even though I interrupted his lunch and he was also preparing a boat for an afternoon outing. Of course I insisted on compensating! This experience makes me so happy and grateful to have encountered such a good, helpful, and talented person as Ray!

I made a mental note to myself - this place would surely be charging an arm and a leg for a bike rental given its proximity to the key attraction in Chincoteague. The following day, my wife and I decided to try out a rental from this shop and when we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised to see a rate of $5/ hour for a mountain bike. That was significantly lower than what I had expected. That was not the only instance of being surprised on a positive note. As it so happened, my wife wanted to rent a bike herself but because she hadn't biked in many years, after taking the bike out for only a few minutes in the parking lot, she decided against renting one. Although the owner, Michael, had spent a considerable amount of time helping her select a bike, a helmet, and a basket, because she did not rent one, he said that she wouldn't have to pay. I was amazed at this gesture. Approximately two hours later when I came to return the bike I had rented (and the child carrier) to the shop, I was expecting to be charged for a full two hours because even though two hours hadn't elapsed, it had been more than one hour since I had rented the bike. I was again pleasantly surprised to see that was not the case. If anything, they rounded things down *lower* and accordingly, for nearly two hours of having rented a  bike, a child carrier, and two helmets, I paid the princely sum of $9.37. That was amazing. Given the joy of riding the bike within Chincoteague with my 3-year old daughter, I would have gladly paid twice that but here I was paying $9.37 for this experience. Oh, I might note something else as well. During the course of riding the bike within the refuge area, I did fall down once. Essentially what happened is that as I was trying to avoid a car behind us, I tried moving to the side of the road but because there was quite a roll-off outside the paved path, I fell down into a marshy pit for a minute or two. Needless to say, our helmets had some of the mud stemming from that incident but when I mentioned that to Michael at the end as we came to return our gear, he didn't express any displeasure at us for getting his helmet and child carrier dirty. All throughout the entire process of renting the bike and returning it, I noticed that he had a nonchalant smile on his face. All in all, I came away very impressed with the bike shop and its owner. My view from the experience is that The Bike Depot personifies honesty and fairness in dealing with its customers while helping tourists like myself get more out of the Chincoteague area. If I ever found myself back here, I wouldn't think twice before renting from The Bike Depot again. Thanks Michael!

They do all the work, all you have to do is get in and when you're finished you call and they come collect the kayak and life jackets. She even waived a fee since I paid cash. When I came back two days later to rent them again, they already had most of my info, I just needed to rescan my license and pay up and it was smooth sailing. A third day would have put me over the weekly rate ($25), and she said I could just pay the $5 since I had already rented two days. Nice, some other place might have penalized me for that, but these folks are just trying to make the equipment rental process really easy. Even returning the boards I just handed them back and told them my name, no need to sign anything. While I only got boogie boards, they also have surf boards, paddle boards, kayaks, and so many bicycles. Their website has the full list of prices and offerings. I did buy one and it was installed incorrectly by the good people at UHaul. (I say "good people"sincerely - they are just overworked and underpaid). No one seemed able to help. On vacation, out of desperation, I explained our problems to the people at Lewes Cycle and within a week, we had a new rack properly installed. They then took the time to explain how to use the thing, which wasn't obvious. Next, I've been looking for a new bike for years, but every store here in DC was too busy to really listen, watch me ride and give me good feedback. Enter Dillon and Gar, who did both and set me up with an EXCELLENT bike in 30 minutes. It was a dream. I am so happy. Lastly, my husband has never been comfortable on his particular bike seat. The fellows at the store really listened. They suggested one, we ordered it and tried it out, and it just wasn't right. Without a word, they took it off our hands and ordered another, which he really likes. All of this HAS changed our lives because now we can actually bike ride again! These guys were amazing…read more We were spending a few days at the beach with my teenage daughter and a couple of her friends. They wanted to rent bikes, and we were happy they were out and about. This place was conveniently located and offered great rates for the multi-day rental. They even had locks and helmets available. The real amazingness came at the end of the trip. The car was packed, and we were ready to go. The plan was for the girls to ride their bikes back to the shop, and we would pick them up there. However, as luck would have it, none of the girls could find the keys to the locks. We called the bike shop for suggestions. They said all we had to do was stop by their shop, pay an extremely reasonable fee, and they would handle picking the bikes up from there. It didn't bother them that the bikes were parked amongst hundreds of others at Sea Colony. I guess this kind of thing happens a lot. Long story short, we got going without losing time (because the girls didn't have to pedal to the bike shop), and Bethany Bike Shop earned our business from now on.
