Excellent staff and service. No long wait, very thorough exam. Had a nice selection of frames, although I got mine elsewhere

I am out here in VA getting to do childcare for my 10 month old grandson from birth so I wasn't relishing the thought of finding/searching for my ugly backup glasses for the remainder of my visit. Fields Family Eye care was the closest optometrist so I went straight there for help. Not only were they THE friendliest business I've had the pleasure to have visited...they put new nose pads on, cleaned the glasses & tightened all the micro-screws too. We visited a bit and there was NO charge. I asked them what they wanted for Christmas and was on my way in just a few short moments. This staff was so wonderfully proactive, beautiful office I can only say that I've already recommended them to my son & his entire family! WOW does NOT even start to say it. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I was on the phone with the staff while pulling into the parking lot and asked if they could still accommodate me. I genuinely hoped for a little flexibility, especially after waiting three months for this appointment. But they refused and were told to reschedule. The next available is 1.5 months out. This was already a rescheduled appointment, since my first appointment had been cancelled when the doctor suddenly became unavailable. Very frustrating experience.

I told them over the phone I have VSP. They went ahead and scheduled my appointment without saying a word. I went in for the exam. That went very well. I got to the checkout and it cost $90. I thought that was odd but paid it and went home to check my benefits on VSP website. Everything I looked at said I should've only paid $25. I called the office. She looked at it again and verified she charged me correctly. She was clearly looking at a different set of benefits than me. I called VSP for clarification and VSP confirmed WALMART IS OUT OF NETWORK. Really? Then why does Walmart have a huge sign out front that says they accept VSP?! So now I am out $65 which is quite a significant amount to me. I realize it's my responsibility to check who is in network for me. But I chalk this up to poor customer service. How could you let someone use services without even letting them know? Never going back.

I went back the next day when they opened and they said they would see what they could do. I waited over two hours to be seen by the doctor because the front desk did not do the tests required before the doctor could do her tests. I was told by the doctor there was a miscommunication. No apology from her or the front desk. I told them all I was "not happy". Crickets... The office is filthy now. Spots on the carpet. It was just an overall bad experience. While I was sitting in the back I got an email saying my boyfriend had an appointment the following Friday. I asked if he scheduled an appointment while I was waiting? They checked and said "Shelly" so and so had an appointment at the time. I showed them the email on my phone. They asked did i want to schedule one for him? I said, "no, we will never come back here." I talked to a friend later that day. She thanked me for telling her the story because she was going to go there for an appointment. Three clients lost because of their "miscommunication".

I had a great first exam which featured higher tech solutions than I have seen previously. One of these tests costs an extra fee, but they explained what the benefits of the test are and were clear on what the fee would be. After the exam I browsed their wide selection of frames but ultimately decided against having my prescription filled with them due to pricing concerns. They gave me a printed quote so I could shop around which was helpful. I'll go back next year for my exam.

The rest of the exam was fine. Then on to the glasses. I needed night driving and sunglass bifocals as well as a computer pair. I asked if I could use my old frames because I like them and they're comfortable. I got a blunt "no" and was told insurance wouldn't pay for them (I should have stopped right there and checked myself but I didn't - bad on me). There was the usual upselling attempts and I admit that I fell for some of it. Total after insurance costs was over $1000. Since my old frames were working out great looks and comfort-wise, I bought two out of the three same frames that I had. I waited two weeks before I called to see if the new glasses were ready and they were. They typically call to tell you when the glasses come in but they hadn't this time. I picked them up, tried them on, had some adjustments done and was on my way. I wore my computer glasses off and on for a week. They were painful to wear because one arm was rubbing even though they are the same frames I had before (I realize they were likely not made in the same production run etc.). I took them back three times for adjustments and on the fourth time back, I was told I should just try the rubber covers for the arm. I was even shown the Amazon picture and link. They basically said, don't bother coming back because we can't help you. Can't? Or won't? I spent a lot of money at Clarkson. I am an extremely unsatisfied customer because I have a pair of glasses that are unwearable. I don't see that I have any recourse with this company. Where's the customer service? It's pathetic service. I will definitely not be going back and they will not get any sort of endorsement from me.
