Even though it was a last minute booking the owner of the salon (she runs the salon by herself) was still able to get me in! I wanted to color my hair and get a haircut so I showed her a picture for reference. She did not disappoint! I used to get my hair cut here when I was younger by the younger lady that works here. I believe there's 2 ladies. Figured I try again since everywhere charges $100+ for a haircut these days. I ended up getting the older lady since I didn't see the younger one and it turned out horrible. I shouldn't have expected much with the $25 price tag but I really wish I would have gone somewhere else and paid the money. I asked for 3 inches to be taken off and it ended up more like 6 inches. I asked for curtain bangs and got chopped up bangs that were way too short and unblended. Sighs... I'll likely have to go somewhere else to fix it when it grows out a bit, which will turn out to be more than if I had just gone there in the first place. Welps learned my lesson. read more

Initially I googled a place to get my hair cut. I wanted to find someone who cuts layers and when I googled. Ann showed up, so naturally I went to check her reviews. A few commented on their happiness w her work, so I went to look at pictures of cuts she had done. Seeing that the pictures looked similar to how I wanted to cut my hair, I called to book an appointment. She's friendly and works efficiently, no fluff . She's definitely experienced and you can tell w the photos and picture that her style of cutting is graceful. She listens to what your looking for and asks questions. My tip is to Definitely bring a photo of what u want to achieve in your cut or style so that there wouldn't be any surprises. Communication is key w achieving your desired cut and or style. The layered cut was $25 and she definitely deserved a tip. I've had my hair overpriced before and left salons disappointed and sad. The woman who cut my hair stopped several times during my haircut to walk behind the counter and talk with someone who was there on an unrelated matter. Each of these times left me sitting in the chair for up to 5 minutes. She did nothing of what I asked, which was for a simple fade. She also shaved off a patch of hair at my temple, and did nothing to try and blend in the mistake. At the end, she didn't do any kind of wipedown or clean off. I had to ask for a rag to wipe my head and face down to clear off the large clumps of hair. read more

This morning Yelp's newsletter was for hair salons. This feels like a mockery. I hate rating small businesses or family owned businesses poorly, but such is life. You've all ready spent more time reading this review than I spend on fixing my hair every day. I don't get regular haircuts and so my hair gets pretty ratty between dye jobs. My hair was getting long, maybe halfway down my back. I asked for 2 inches off and a straight cut. I figured that would be easy right? Instead, I got 6+ inches taken off and now it's layered. When it is this short, I end up looking like I don't know how to brush my hair (which I don't) and it does a stupid flippy thing. It was originally longer in the front than in the back -- now it's the opposite. Sure, my hair looks healthier now -- but I think a lawn care specialist with an over zealous weed wacker would have provided similar results. My hair-chopper (GET TO DA CHOPPA) was Ann and she was very nice. She did wack me in the eye with the bristly side of the brush. She apologized and I'm fine -- but, ow! Mostly I feel displeased about how short my hair is and this annoying flippy thing. Anyways, I had some trouble understanding her at times but they did take me as a walk in appointment late in the day. The place is small with 3 stations. It's not particularly clean, there was a bottle on the counter covered in hair and the windows had hair stuck on them. It was just kind of a grimy place. It does seem like they have some really loyal customers. One guy came from Pleasanton to get his hair did (which was weird because his hair was ridiculously short, like he just had it buzzed, but whatever) he drove in traffic and rain for an hour to get there -- so that must say something. He was chatty with his hair lady -- they talked about how his daughter concluded that there must be a Santa for every country and there are Asian and Black Santas because it didn't make sense he could travel everywhere in a single night. Then he talked about how when he played games with his wife he would let her win. I feel like somehow these snippets should tie together my experience there -- like how you expect one thing going in but get something entirely different coming out. read more

But really, after plunking down $25 for haircut after haircut and never getting what I ASKED FOR, always some weird new thing that the cutter said would look "really trendy and great", I gave up. That's one of my favorite things about this place - no making appointments three months in advance, I walk in and generally have a 5-30 minute wait. I could make an appointment if I really wanted to, but I tend to get my hair cut on the fly. Julia cut my hair EXACTLY as I asked her to. I told her what I wanted, she gave me some advice, which I refused, and she cut my hair. This went on for about a year of me just getting my way and not really listening to her. Finally, one day, I bowed to her experience and let her cut some layers in, just a little bit. And loved it. But for the next six months I didn't want to go any farther. Everytime she asked me if I wanted to do this or that and I would say just keep it the way it is and she listened! Anyways, fast forward about three years later and I've got the fab hair cut she probably always envisioned me in but I was too afraid to get. Come here for a quick, budget cut! I booked a Saturday appointment just an hour before closing and got a cut (that I was satisfied with, maybe 7/10) within 15 minutes. I showed a picture of what I wanted and the lady who was cutting my hair dived in with clippers and some shears. She left the front of my hair looking a little weird but you wouldn't notice with how I style it. I'm an asian dude with straight hair. I moved from Seattle to Walnut Creek back in September and found Ann via Yelp. While she did a great job the first time, I decided to give other hair places a chance. That sure was a mistake. The four other salons I tried gave super horrible cuts. Ann is very quick and gives awesome fades. But don't mistake her speed for lack of quality. I'm always pleased with how perfect she cuts my hair. She's been able to accommodate both shorter and long-ish hair on the top - both styles being exactly what I want. We might not chat much but she's super nice & sweet. And I never leave without tipping her really well for my $11 haircut. Call for an appointment although you can do a walk-in easily (you'll just have to wait for me to be done). Ann did an awesome job on my hair. My boyfriend recommended I go there for an easy trim. I walk in to see calomine colored walls and think "oh god". But surely Ann this small Vietnamese women reassures me to sit down. I called ahead, which I recommend if it's after work hours. Shortly after finishing up with the only other person in the salon, she hails me over. I tell her what I want with short small words like short, tiny, just a bit, and she responds with yes yes. She makes sure after every segment of my hair due it's correct and I appreciated that. She quickly finishes and blow dries me off. Offers me a bit of gel which I put in on my self. This place is less then one star. 10 bucks is not bad, but you pay for what you get sometimes. Perfect location, not that dingy looking.. I took my 4 year old to this place for his first haircut... Mistake!! The lady was picking her nose as she was on the phone when I walked in then began rolling it in her fingers as she walked back in. Was wondering if she was going to wash her hands but it didnt seem like she was going to before I reminded her. The other lady was too busy watching this lady butchering my sons hair has she giggled with the guy who was showing her his new iPhone app. She took way too long and did a horrible job and will never be going back to this place. read more
