I needed an inspection for car insurance. I was hesitant to try them at first due to a few bad experiences with the prior owner several years ago, but I walked away delighted! I still have my Duramax diesel engine with $9000 worth of damage because precision tune of taking out the glow plugs in the head of my engine and then repair it with JB weld go figure. This place deserves ZERO stars. Took my car in for a basic oil change. I returned to find my vehicle spraying oil throughout the entire engine bay. My car had a 12-point inspection 2 months prior to this oil change with zero oil leak or issue noted. It is no coincidence that the second this "shop" touched the car there is now a MAJOR issue. So I went to Precision tune to get a quote on my 2006 outback 3.0 for a tune up. The reason I picked this company was because of a coupon offer. This is what the coupon stated. Maintenance tune-up which included a Tune up Verification, Replace Spark Plugs. 6 cyl. $69.95. So I called Peninsula Subaru and checked with them for a tuneup quote and it was $300 plus tax. Once I arrived at Precision to verify that this coupon was legitimate I was told to sit down and wait for a tech to come and talk to me. After 40 minutes an employee came out and quoted to me the following. "The spark plugs will cost $120 and the install will be $300". How can the quote go from $69.95 to $420. I pointed out the sign in the office above where I was sitting stated the price of $69.95 included "plugs installed". She said it was a little misleading. I would call it a bait and switch. If I could give a negative number I would have. Never will I go back to this business. In my opinion this business is a huge ripoff. read more

So my mom and I brought in her car in for a smog check... our car was working fine we drove it from Los Angeles to Gig Harbor..... the minute we get in the car after the smog check from precision to drive off something was notably very wrong with the car.. we drove back immediately to ask Justin what had happened .. he couldn't even come and check the car out for himself before letting us drive off.. the drive home was horrible and dangerous. The car wouldn't go over 45 mph on the freeway and when we had to drive up the hill to get home we were holding our breath... I went here for an oil change for my VW beetle.. I know it's a good place to go when you see 3 of the same car in the stalls. I was met in the office as if I was an old friend and the service was quick! Here's where the company showed integrity and good old fashioned service! I added windshield wipers to my service and this is where it could have gone wrong, but it didn't. The technician broke my windshield on installation, but didn't tell the manager. I started to drive off, when I noticed that it was broken. I went back into the building and the manager, Jr., came out and immediately responded with, how human error can happen and he would take responsibility for getting it fixed. Immediately, he asked his technician why he wasn't told and fortunately, the technician admitted guilt(thank goodness!) and Jr. even made him apologize to me. A manager can't always control their employee actions, but how they deal with them is another story. I was impressed. I was called back that same afternoon to tell me that I would have the window replaced first thing the next day. It was done and I walked away a happy customer! read more

Update: It's with a heavy heart that I update this review. The air-conditioner we had PT fix lasted only 2 times before it stopped. :( More importantly, I recently took my new car to PT for an oil change, and with their coupon they told me it would cost $90 as my car required synthetic oil. We still had a free change at the dealership so we took it there. While at the dealership they told me the car DOES NOT require a synthetic oil, and that an oil change at the dealership is only $40 with the recommended oil from Honda. Previous review: usually try to avoid going to the mechanic, and change our oil and do basic maintenance at home. It's cheaper to get the oil changed at Precision Tune than to DIY, and the team is trustworthy and always has a smile. We have started bringing our cars in for the things we have been avoiding fixing, because we finally have a team we trust. My husband finally has a working AC and we didn't have to break the bank. I first came to Precision Auto over a year ago to get an emissions inspection. Although this is just a perfunctory test, I was immediately impressed with the personalized attention to my vehicle. I was greeted by Azziz, who I assume is the manager or owner, and he not only gave me a complete review of the emissions inspection but also took the time to look at the vehicle and give some no-pressure suggestions. I felt that he was genuinely interested in the health of the vehicle. I came back a few times for oil changes and those were all fine. At one point my Dodge Ram pickup truck was having some serious issues and I limped into the shop. I received a complete evaluation with up front explanation of costs and options. I felt empowered - not pressured - to decide what to do next. It turned out that I simply was not firing on all cylinders due to a failed spark plug and I was given the options from simple to deep and went ahead with the work. I chose the options that worked for me and the work was performed thoroughly and in a timely manner. Since the repair I feel like I have a new vehicle. I will continue to use this shop as I feel that the staff cares about my vehicle and is out to help me and treat me fairly. read more

So my car was reaching 90k miles, and it just finished a trip of around 1700 miles, it was time for a check up and they offered one for 170. The price tag was for a 4-cyl and my car being a 6-cyl it had a bit more cost, not enough to blow the bank at though. I mentioned a few things I knew that were wrong with it, and they also confirmed what I was aware of, and brought up something I didn't bring up that I knew was an issue already (granted this was an accident and I had completely forgotten about the break fluid issue I was having). But as I was already aware, the owner (Forgive me if I'm mispelling, but Azizz I believe he said, know him when I see him, terrible at names though.) said that it, while could be an issue later, wasn't really up for saying it's a necessity, instead just something to keep an eye on. The reason for the 3 stars....well, they said everything was fixed, but the one thing that wasn't, that I was very specific about, was the windshield wiper fluid nozzle on the driver's side is busted on my car, it puddles out while the passenger side sprays fine. They said it was all taken care of so I said great. As I drove off I pressed my windshield button...same issue I was having. Now that in itself was only about 15 bucks, and the hose connecting to the nozzle was dry rotted, so needed to be replaced, but this makes me feel they really didn't test it. I know it's something small, but it's minor details that are important. Overall though I'm very happy with the service I was given, and do intend to return to them for their business. The lady at the counter is very courteous and the technicians are friendly, the latter being very important to me. I may adjust this rating based on what my return visit yields me, but I was too lazy to take my car right back, and I had a few plans that held more priority than that small issue. read more

So last Friday my wife brought her car into Precision Tune Gig Harbor that we frequent often for oil changes and low and behold she needs a new battery. My wife called me and told me that they had to jump start the car 3X. I said that's a load of crap because I just replaced that battery 2 yrs ago. And anyone that knows me knows that I only buy the best. I mean this is the super duty high-end kick ass start up in a blizzard type battery. Anyhow she takes the vehicle to a Local Automotive store where I buy all my stuff from including batteries and they told my wife they did not recognize the battery. Of course my wife gets stranded and I rush to her aid. I popped the hood and about craped myself. That's not my battery. It's an undersized old battery that does not belong in my vehicle. We took the car to the automotive store to verify by RECORD what I purchased two years ago. YES MY BATTERY WAS STOLEN AND SWAPPED OUT. Do I have proof... NOPE I am just using deductive reasoning and alleging that something amiss happened here. Why do I feel this way? Two years ago Precision Tune told my wife that her brakes were going out and they were really bad. I forgot the number they used to describe the breaks otherwise I would write it provide it here. Anyhow I procrastinated and decided to hold off on new breaks for a few months. Several months later I go a blow out and decided to have my breaks looked out while they were replacing the tires (Les Schwab). They told us that our breaks were fine and did not need replacing. It been two years and they are still good. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time but now after this incident I have changed my tune. read more

My husband and I have been going to Precision since moving to Gig Harbor 7 years ago. We've always been impressed by the customer care, the pricing, and most importantly the owner is ALWAYS there! You can see that he truly cares about not just his business but the customers and the service they receive. Today, after the oil was changed in my 2005 Ford Expedition and parked, I asked for a "roundabout idea" of what new shocks would cost. He asked if he could actually pull my car into the shop again to give my husband and I a more accurate quote. I'm always impressed by the service. This establishment is not pushy by any means and allows the customer to have control over the decisions without feeling obligated or forced to have work done immediately. I see many reviews that state this establishment fails to communicate with the customer yet in nearly 7 years of business with them, I've NEVER found this to be true. I'm always informed of the cost prior to my car being repaired, I'm always informed of fees even if it's a $10 fee as to what it's for or why and there's always communication of what is further needed if there is a need. read more

My dashboard display wasn't showing the mileage, and the owner looked up the problem, and found the fix, which unfortunately required going to the dealer. It did, however, make dealing with the dealer auto repair much more tolerable since precision had already figured out what the problem was. Another time they recommended going to the dealer because the car was still under warranty, even though they could have made a profit from my business, instead they made a continued loyal customer. Hold on to your wallet when you walk thru the door. parts that are readily available anywhere are charged at three times retail spark plugs that cost $60 are billed at $128.00 and spark plug wires at $40 are billed at $116.00 differential fluid should be $25.00 and billed at $60. oxygen sensor should be $45 and billed at $122.00. I brought my car in for a simple oil change and when I returned my seat was leaned all the way back and broken. The owner began yelling and calling out obscenities telling me to get the fuck out of there. They refused to return my money. The owner an Indian man was very hostile and threatening he overpowered me and then came towards me with his hands up telling me to leave as if he were going to cause physical harm. Took my car in for blinking headlights. They told me I needed a charging system test. I had just had this done at O'Riley's, and said it was negative. They told me they must preform the test anyway, so I paid $47. Surprise surprise, there was no problem with the charging system. Then they told me it was a break light relay and headlight switch. $400 later they told me it was fixed, but they told me they broke something which rendered the car undrivable, and I had to pay $150 to fix it. We were annoyed but paid it. We picked up the car and 5 minutes down the road, the head lights were STILL blinking. Also all the coolant leaked out both into their parking lot and our driveway. It wasn't leaking when we had dropped it off, so we took it back, and they charged us another $500 to "fix the leak". Nobody called me, I had to call 5 minutes before they closed, because nobody called to say my car was ready, so I had to pay over the phone, without inspection. I payed, picked it up in the dark, and it was still leaking. Now they say it was another problem! They wanted $600 to fix that. And our headlights are still blinking. We asked for a refund or to fix what they had damaged, but they refused. They asked us to call back when the owner returned after christmas to discuss a resolution. We called back after the first of the year and again asked for a refund of just the labor. They told us no. I would not recommend this business to anybody read more

This place is a total rip off, I went their together my car tested for emissions and when it came to the part to make their recommended repairs I asked for the cost up front and went over with them carefully ( I hate being ripped off).. I said go ahead and when it was done the mechanic called and said it was ready and I asked him the total amount owed and it was to the penny what I was quoted from the young lady at the counter. I go pick the car up and the owners wife checked me out and she charged me an addition 30 bucks, I told her that was wrong and she told me I was wrong, I asked her to go get the young lady and ask her what the charge was to be, she did and the young lady said that it was the price quoted (178.00). The owner said the young lady was wrong, I asked about the mechanic who confirmed the 178.00 and she said he was wrong. Ok, I get it here, I am getting ripped off and I could see it in plain sight. The other day I had to get a headlight changed and unfortunately with a Nissan they have to remove the whole front fender. I didn't have anywhere else to be so I just stayed and waited. This review is simply in reference to the Emissions Testing/Emissions Diagnostic at Precision Auto Tune. I cannot speak to any other services. I wanted to just write for folks have a game plan if they fail an emissions test here. I had a less than pleasant experience after failing emissions and receiving the information code for what area would need to be addressed to fix, which was related to my car's idle and speed sensor. This shop offers an "Emissions Diagnostic" for $150 plus shop fees/tax, totaling around $170. I did agree to this service and paid as I agreed to, but was disappointed to discover that this is really in addition to any work that needs to be done to fix the problem, and is mainly just to cover the State of Washington minimum to apply for an emissions waiver, and simply get a sign off that it has been checked. I got a call that a $230-240 repair for the idle/speed sensor needed to be made, but in addition to this "Emissions Diagnostic." I was surprised and told that the $150 is for the mechanic to 'further diagnose' the emissions fail code that the car puts out. I asked how this "further diagnosis" is different than a free "check engine" diagnosis, the original code that the car gives when it fails, and/or when I use the code reader for free at the auto parts store to tell me what's wrong. They said its both the same and a bit different as it take more reading to evaluate, apparently $150 worth, which conveniently is also the state minimum. I would have happily paid the $230-240 to actually get the problem fixed and then pass emissions, however what I received was a 'further diagnosis,' and a signature that said the state minimum had been met. So, now I can apply for the waiver, but the problem is actually not solved. I was really disappointed that I had to actually purchase a diagnosis and then have the work addressed. I can understand that this type service exists to simply meet a state minimum, and such approved auto shops have a right to offer it. I believe most good mechanics though will diagnose an issue for free and then tell you what needs to be fixed, not this type of runaround further diagnosis then to offer the repairs on top of that. Just wanted to make folks aware to have a game plan if emissions fail. read more

I took my car for an oil change here for the first time today since my beloved Sears Auto Service center (most honest place on the planet) closed. I hate taking my car anywhere other than my dad's garage due to practically every chain service shop in the industry predictably taking advantage of my lack of automotive knowledge, and this place was about on par with others. People at the front desk were very nice and efficient. The wait was not long on a Monday afternoon, service was quick despite no appointment, and they were mostly up front about their prices, however, it's ridiculous that they charge an extra $10 just for 5W20 oil when IMHO it should just be included in a standard oil change. They tried to charge me another $10 to top off the coolant which I knew we had at home, so I said I'd pass. Got home and had my dad check for me and he said my coolant level was FINE. I may give them another chance but I will be wary of price gouging. Anyone with minimal car knowledge, beware. This place doesn't go above and beyond to be honest any more than the rest of them. read more
