I have raised my rating by one star. In response to my original rating, the company sent a person out who actually fixed the garage door properly. The door was skewed not sitting straight on the ground when shut after the prior third fix. The technician that came out this final time knew what he was doing, was cordial, and understood what customer service should look like. I appreciated his realignment of my garage door and his courtesy. The garage door is finally working properly. ORIGINAL REVIEW: If I can give a negative rating, I would. They came to fix my garage door on three occasions. They had me pay over a thousand dollars to replace the springs and also said I needed to replace the rollers, which I unfortunately believed and succumbed to. The springs were not calibrated correctly and therefore, subsequently broke my garage lifter TWICE within a span of 7 weeks! I've never had any problems with my garage door for ten years before they replaced the springs. They charged me again to fix the problem they caused! In addition, they said that I needed to replace my motor for another $1,500 as a preventive measure or they will not guarantee their work. Come again?!!! It's interesting that in response to another one star review, their business manager says that customers who replace springs and rollers get great service. I have not received any service that I can call great or even competent. In addition, they broke my garage door light last time they came and did not fix it. They took the support brace off the motor and it's missing now. When my garage door lifter broke again in less than a month after their last "fix," their "experienced technician" said that since I did not replace the motor, I have no guarantee on their work.. I called in another company who said that there was nothing wrong with the motor but needed the missing support brace (and it should be less than half of what Precision quoted to replace the motor had I needed to), that the gear assembly was broken. Precision either put in wrong springs or did not put it in with the correct calibration, which broke the gear assembly. I had asked Precision about the springs when they were putting them in if they were the right parts, because they did not look similar to the old ones. They said that their springs were specially made to last much longer than the normal springs (meaning the right parts?). It makes me wonder if their "experienced technician" knows what he is doing? They definitely do charge a lot more than other companies. I asked them to take their springs back and pay me back so I can hire someone else to do it right the first time. They will not. They will instead send out the original guy who screwed it up in the first place to try to fix it. Good grief! CALL AROUND before hiring these guys! read more

Our garage door got stuck late in the day. The motor was making a loud grinding sound. We tried to open the door manually but we could hardly move it and when we did the cable came off and the door was out of balance. Called Precision in the evening and they gave us a window of when the tech would arrive (between 8-10pm). Mike called us about a half hour before 8 and gave us a abetter estimate when to expect him as he was just wrapping up another job. Mike came later and after taking a look gave his recommendations explaining the work without pressuring us on any parts or service. When we decided, Mike was very thorough in his work and made sure everything was in working order no matter how late the job took. The garage door is in better shape now than before it broke. Needless to say, we're very satisfied with the repair and would definitely recommend them. read more

Not sure what caused garage door to derail and become undone but after calling Precision Door not only did they answer my call (5:45pm) they had a tech out before 6:30pm!!! Cory W. was awesome and had door fixed within minutes and went thru to make adjustments to make sure problem won't happen again (hopefully). I hope to not have any more issues with door but if I do these are the ones I will call back, thanks for fixing my garage door and not breaking my wallet in the process. read more

These guys suck. First, I made an appointment for Saturday to give me a quote on replacing a garage door and a new wifi opener motor. That Saturday came by and no one called or showed up. That week, I made another appointment for the following Saturday and told the appointment taker what happened that their service guy did not show up. She was very receptive and ensured that there would be someone to stop by and give me a quote. To cut the story short, the service guy did show up on that Saturday, but he did not know what he was there for. He asked me what does he need to repair??. I asked him if they communicate with the appointment taker since he did not know what he was there for. As I was telling him I needed a quote on a new garage door, he did not have any pamphlets or selection of doors I can choose from. I had to show him a pamphlet I got from RW garage doors on Amarr doors. Anyway, he got my selections for a possible replacement and would give me a quote on the following Wednesday. It is now 3 weeks later and 3 reminder texts about my quote and still no quote. I finally got another garage door provider to come out and they are very responsive. Total rip off. My torsion spring broke on my garage door, I removed the spring and went on line, found the same spring(which has lasted 8 years)for 31.95 but it would take a week to get it. So I called around and found Precision Overhead Garage Door, they tell me it's 49.00 for a service call and about 95.00 for the spring. When the guy gets there he tells me the spring is 168.00 and I need some other parts. The total is 316.00 I tell him to forget it and he says I still owe for the service call even though he has done nothing. I call the office and am told that there springs are superior to other springs. So I agree, 5 minutes later he is finished, no adjusting, oiling or anything else, 252.00. Took some numbers off the spring he installed and looked it up on the internet, 35.00 with shipping. read more

I strongly suggest you don't use this service. As the previous review said, they rip you off. My husband just call them about the broken springs and they told him it's about $175 to replace the springs. But when the guy came, it turns out it's $175 for just one spring. It costed us $380 plus $50 service to replace two springs. And the guy also asked him to replace other bolts for $100+ and he rejected. As a matter of fact, the springs are only sold for about $100 for two online and it includes all the other parts. For those who are going to shopping for garage repair service, please watch out for their unfair price. read more

I give this firm the highest marks! They have come out to my house twice in the last year. Each time I presented them with a difficult logistical challenge with a door off its hinges stuck closed and no man-door to access from the back. Both technicians were right on time, courteous and professional. Whats more impressive though is both (particularly Cody) were great problem solvers and went out of their way to preserve the door and equipment while inventing creative solutions to fix the problem! One even gave his personal cell phone so that if it broke again, he guaranteed the work and would come back out to fix it. Amazing! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They obviously work on commission because what started out to be on a spring change, ended up a $989 upsell to get new parts and warranty. The only way they warranty their work is to get the complete overhaul, at least that was the sell. The work was good, but the company has no integrity! Do your homework, don't trust them. read more

It is a rip off to cost over $500 to replace a broken spring. They overcharge because they price replacement items along with labor. To change the broken spring, they charge the bearings 50@ 150 for 3 which is part of the effort to replace the broken spring. They change 150 for cable and again this is part of the effort to take the spring out. I am not sure these items required to change. With the service call fee 50 and the spring for 168, the total is over 500. The other issue is, they did not do the job right, they did not balance the door and overloading the genie. read more

A torsion spring broke on our rolling garage door. We called another company for a quote and we also called Precision. Precision could come out that afternoon and the other company could not, so went with Precision Door and we were satisfied with their service, timeliness of the service and the price of the service. They ended up replacing the two springs and after looking at the rollers, determined those needed to be replaced. I am very skeptical of any "up-sells" so I had the technician spend the time to show me exactly what was wrong and why they needed to be replaced. He said I would be pleased with the result and that the new wheels would make a big difference. While I hate to spend $500 on my stinking garage door, I must say it now works awesome. The door is almost perfectly balanced and I can raise and lower it with a couple of fingers. My automatic opener is under much less strain and sounds quieter and the door goes up and down perfectly level. The spings and wheels look like they are made of high quality and heavy duty materials. I would not hesitate to call them again or recommend to a friend or neighbor. read more

We live in Walnut Creek and our garage door was getting stuck about 4 inches from the ground and would not open. We called Precision Door Service and they have someone that actually picks up the phone! Rick came to our house at promptly 8 am when promised and analyzed our door. Joseph was the service tech and replaced the motor and worn rollers in less than an hour, plus he gave me some maintenance tips. This was one of the best experiences we have had with a service company and specifically with our technician Chad. The pleasant surprise began with easy communications with a live operator to schedule the appointment. That was followed up by an email showing names and photos of all of the technicians, and indicating which one of them would make the service call. Chad called the morning of the appointment to let us know when he would arrive within the assigned window, and arrived on time. We had a problem with an older garage door system where the door would fail to open intermittently. Chad was very personable and knowledgeable about the older system and clearly explained that there were several ways to go about solving the problem. We opted to put in a new system with all new accessories even though replacing certain parts would have been less expensive. Chad installed the new system that very day without having to set up another appointment and fully explained everything to us about door maintenance, operation and warranties and helped us program our cars to the new system. He wanted to make sure that we were fully satisfied before he left. Mike helped me pick my new garage doors and ordered them immediately; the only reason I had to wait a few weeks for repair was because I picked custom colors and windows and our garage doors are not standard sizes. The garage doors came exactly when promised and the crew started work. Luis and the crew are amazing and honest hard workers. One of the crew members accidentally cut his hand (I assumed they'd stop working and come back another day)...they bandaged the hand and kept on working! I have a rental unit in Pleasanton and the garage door would not open and the only way in is the door as it is detached. Called Precision door and set a time for this past Sunday. James called and told me he would be at the unit in about an hour only one hour into the four hour window. He spent a lot of time trying to get it open and did. I originally called Precision Garage Door Service to see if they could provide new remotes for our garage door. They said they would be happy to assist with the remotes and assigned tech Josh Kinder. When Josh arrived he offered to do a detailed multi-point inspection of the garage door system in addition to simply reprogramming the new remotes. It was raining very hard when he came and he could very easily just taken care of the remotes and left but he stayed to complete the inspection. And we are very thankful that he did because he identified a number of issues that clearly needed to repaired (e.g., misaligned track, worn rollers, damaged cable hubs, worn springs, broken metal corner block, hinges needing to be lubed, improperly mounted safety beam sensors, etc.). Bottom line, when he was finished with the required work, it was like we had a brand new garage door, running perfectly smoothly, and making almost no noise. We really appreciate the work Josh did for us. He clearly demonstrated what excellent customer service is all about -- being on time, listening to the customer, communicating in a professional and caring manner, doing a great job, not cutting corners, and making sure the customer is very pleased with the work you do. Precision Garage Door Service may cost a little more than other companies but if all of their staff provide the level of service Josh provided to us it is totally worth it. read more

Garage would not open all the way, so I called Precision, had the number on garage wall along with two others, but I remember speaking to James when he was fixing my neighbors door. I called after 6PM on a Friday and needed the car the next day, but door was stuck. I actually spoke to a lady that was very helpful and said she would have someone out the next morning before I had to go to my appointment. James came out, was professional, but friendly, fixed everything and did not try to sell me. He also fixed part of the roof on inside of garage, the tile, so the door would not get caught again. I highly recommend James and Precision. Also kudos to the lady, I think her name was Amanda, this mornings call and the person who answered at 6PM last night. They all came through for me. read more

I have a rental property in San Leandro and my tenant called me on *Superbowl Sunday* to tell me that the garage door wouldn't open. She sent me a picture and it was obvious that the torsion spring on the door had broken. I checked Yelp and found Precision Door, and was amazed when they answered. They sent James Walker over within 2 hours, and within a little over an hour, he had replaced both springs, installed new bearings, cables, and drums, had re-positioned the garage door opener for a proper angle, and had lubricated and checked everything else out. He was bringing the door up and down while I was in the house and it was so quiet that I couldn't even tell the door was operating. The price was not cheap but you get what you pay for, and I know the door will be operating long past the 3-year warranty. I'll be using James and Precision Door for our own home and whenever we need garage door work from now on. read more

Had the Service on 11/3/12. Not very happy with the expensive parts and upsell. Good things: technician was able to diagnose and fix the problem; he was friendly; office called about appointment delay. Bad things: fixing torsion springs and opener gear & sprocket ended up costing me $770. He added 2 bearing and 2 drums (original bearing and drum looked okay). I was caught off guard regarding the original problem and later on researched on the internet and found the the following. 2 springs go for ~$80-$100/each (they charge $168/each with install); gear & sprocket ~$30 (they charge $168 w/ instsall). The cost for brand new opener goes for $150-$200 !!! The total amount of work was about 1hr. Basically labor is ~$400 for one hour of work. Talked me into expensive package with some kind of limited life-time warrantee. Feel taken afterward! They are capable, but be ready with information on cost before you call them to negotiate, or call someone else. If I have to pay again, I'd call others with 5 stars on Yelp. read more

I called Precision this morning since my garage door wouldn't close. The repairman gave me a ridiculously high estimate of $700.00 to fix the door and no parts were involved. I asked if he could just close the door completely, for safety reasons, as there was a 2 foot gap from the bottom of the door and the garage floor, and he said I would have to put a deposit down on a new door with his company before he could attempt to close the door due to the fact that the door might break. Needless to say, I sent him on his way and I paid him his service fee of $49.00, which he didn't deserve because not only did he do nothing, but he also gave me false information. I called another company right away, they came out this afternoon, put the cable back on, fixed a screw in one of the hinges, straightened out the left track and the door is working beautifully!!! Additionally, this repairman told me that the door is just fine and there is no need to purchase a new one. And to top things off, he only charged me $78.00!!! Yes, that's right! $78.00. Had I gone with Precision Garage Door I would have paid $700.00 and maybe even more if I had followed the repairman's advice and purchased a new door. I call this customer deception. read more

All I can say is watch your wallet!! I can't believe anyone would give this outfit 5 stars. Maybe a negative 5 stars. This companies MO is UP-SELL. I have a garage door with a single style torsion spring that had broken. I called about simply having the spring replaced. Before their guy got past my door he was suggesting I replace all of the rollers, replace the torsion spring bar and adding two springs. For the price he quoted I could have had an entirely new door installed from one of the big box warehouse stores. I had to almost demand to only have the one spring replaced, which they finally did. Even with that they charge 2 to 3 times more for the springs versus direct from the a warehouse store. read more

My husband called Precision because the garage doors were hesitating, sometimes stopping, sometimes going back down. When the tech came out he told my husband that a full service was needed to remedy this problem. My husband did not fully understand the tech. When I got home and found out how much the bill was, I reacted negatively. I called Mike. He explained clearly that after ten years (or before) that this would happen if not serviced. He sent the tech back out the next day to show me just what they replaced and why. Mike went out of his way to be patient, explain in detail and go the extra mile. We just had Precision Garage Door Service out. To start out on a good note, the tech, Ricky U., did fix our garage door opener by putting our cables back on track, but he tried repeatedly to overcharge us and actually pinched our cable and then said it was bent and also needed repair. He said it would $299 for repair total. When my husband went to pay him, he said it would also be $50 show up fee. Then he said he would waver the $50 show up fee, but he wanted the $299 PLUS $168 labor. Isn't fixing something including labor? We are retired so this adding and adding was really scary. Finally he accepted $350 and no new parts were used. Something is not honest about this company. DON'T USE THEM. read more

Last week my garage door broke off the hinges. I made several calls looking for someone to come out, more than one friend suggested Precision. The receptionist who answered was very polite, an appointment was made for the same day. The technician Phil, showed up and quickly assessed the damage, a new garage door was ordered and installed on Xmas Eve. Phil arrived early and did a great job, I will use them to replace the other door in the near future. read more

Called them on a Wednesday because I needed a new garage door opener. They came that day (arrived much later than they promised) and told me I recommended an opener which was over $600, and some add-ons that would be another $300. As far as their recommendations were concerned, we have no complaint--we did need what they recommended. However, in the initial phone call, there was a suggestion of a $350 project. That was clearly too low, and probably should not have been mentioned. The project began on Friday evening. Because of late arrival, we had to leave and could not be present during the installation. When we arrived home, the opener was on the ceiling of the garage, but was plugged into three separate circuit breaker type extension cords that were hanging from the ceiling. I could not put my car into the garage. When I called to complain, they first told me that I needed to get an electrician to put a plug in the ceiling of my garage (house built in 1926). However, my garage has four outlets in the walls and clearly doesn't need a fifth one in the ceiling. I asked why not use an extension cord to run the power from an existing outlet 10 feet away. So once again another phone call and another person comes on Saturday, this time three hours late not at 10 a.m, but at 12:30. Again this man, who like everyone is very pleasant and competent, doesn't know about the extension cord needed to complete this job. So we give them one of ours and he managed to staple it to the ceiling and wall and plug it in on the side of the garage. Final bill $960. You think for a nearly thousand dollar job, they could bring their own wiring and do it once rather than require multiple trips and have the homeowner provide the wiring materials (for which we did receive a $12 discount in the amount of the cost of our extension cord). The final job is perfectly fine. However, the initial low-ball estimate, the unprofessionalism evidenced by their not initially completing the job with the appropriate electric lines, and the lateness of arrival all were all problems that result in my conclusion that I would not recommend them. read more
