So far Tin and his team are 3 for 3 in fixing various issues with our cars. Two cars with leaks, one with a leaking valve cover and another with cooler line, as well as A/C work and I can happily say that his work is very good and reasonably priced. I've found that it's best to call him and check his workload/availability but I've never had any issues here. I appreciate that he's very honest: he told me that my Jeep has a two piece main seal that was leaking slightly and that he doesn't attempt to fix them as he can't guarantee that it won't leak afterwards. Tin, Tom and Viet are good honest guys who are the most reasonably priced. I trust these guys with all me cars. They turned my rotors on my Lexus IS 300 using the same machine toyota uses. They also helped me avoid buying a damaged 4runner that the owner didn't know about. They showed me what to look for. Then, they found a small oil leak, rear main seal leak, on the Miata I ended up buying which helped in negotiating the price. Oil changes are very affordable. My car's tire pressure light was on for about a week so I needed to go somewhere to see if there was a nail embedded in the tire or at least check the pressure. I called Precise Auto Care and the owner was super nice and said to come in a few hours so he can check it. When I went, he checked and balanced all four tires for free and the pressure light was gone! I'm so impressed by the quick and quality service and I'll be sure to come back. I was in Santa Clara for a job interview and I'd forced my poor car on 5% oil life all the way from Davis. I couldn't bare to drive back home to San Francisco anymore with crappy oil in my car so I drove to the closest auto shop my navi brought me to for an oil change and luckily, I ended up at Precise Auto Care. The mechanics were really honest and knew that I was on my way home so they told me they'd get the job done as quickly as they could. Since they had a variety of magazines to keep me occupied, 15 minutes flew by and I was ready to finally head home with fresh oil in my baby :) On top of the cost for oil and supplies, they only charged me $12 for labor (the receipt said labor is $80/hr). Went to them to had new break pads and rotors installed on my Mazda6 after reading some good reviews about them here. They told me to come in the morning if I want fast service. I went there and they immediately start working on my car. They did a thorough job, and the price is very reasonable for the amount of work done. They also rotated my tires as I requested without charge. I went to them to do an oil change on my STi this morning and the service was very fast. They also check and inflated my tire pressure, inspected my car and found a leak in the rear differential and advised me to take it to the dealer soon, also warned me about my front tires needed to be changed soon. Initially this shop replaced my timing belt for a very reasonable price. Then I went back there for the brakes, oil changes, etc. Each time the work is done well, in a reasonable amount of time, and at a very reasonable price. They have a lot of people repairing their cars with them, but even on a Saturday the wait is not too long. My 8 year old car will need to have a second set of some engine sensors and some fuel line components replaced within a year. The mechanic gave me his advice on what needs replacement sooner, and which costly engine sensors can wait until later, and he also talked about the way he prioritizes these replacements on his own car. Like a good doctor, the mechanic gives the advice that is in the best interest of the customer, as opposed to trying to charge the customer for repairs that may be too costly or unnecessary. For years I've been repairing my vehicles myself, and generally avoided going to auto mechanics, but these guys I trust. read more

I took my car to Precise after reading about them here on Yelp and I had a really good experience. My Toyota Corolla had just topped 180k miles and it needed a new timing belt and a serious tune. I got quotes from several different places and the guys at Precise seemed extremely knowledgeable and thousands cheaper than franchise places like Precision Auto Tune so I decide to go with Precise (plus Tom reminds me of an old friend of mine from high school). I dropped my car off and then took off for Hawaii. My roommate picked up my car while I was sipping a Mai Tai on a beach under the sun (actually I was getting rolled by a six foot break in Waimea bay, but I prefer my version of things) and the car has run beautifully since then. I started taking my Prius here for oil changes and tire rotations when I got tired of the high dealer prices. The mechanics are honest, efficient and friendly and the price is about a third of what I would pay at the dealer. Don't expect any frills--just be happy with what you get! Only go here if you have a ton of time to sit around. My first impression of the place wasn't great. I called ahead and asked if I could take my car in at a certain time, with the expectation that this call would create an appointment. The voice at the other end (Tom) agreed to the time. When I arrived, I saw Tom and said that I was there for my oil change appointment. Tom said that they don't take appointments. So I explained that I had spoken to someone on the on phone about a specific time. He replied, "Yes, that was me, but we don't take appointments." This information would have been helpful when I originally called.... Ultimately, the service was good. Tin (another employee) did a nice inspection of my car and found a nail in my tire as well as a part that needed which explained why my service light kept coming on. I did return to have the part placed into my car. I thought the service was great but I hesitate returning simply because of the unknown wait time. read more

I found Precise Auto Care through Yelp. This week, my corolla broke down and I had it towed to them. They diagnosed two major problems, one was covered by Toyota warranty and the other was not. They were honest and patient to present the options I had to fix the problems. I ended up having them fix the first problem and had a Toyota Dealer fix the second problem since it was under warranty. It seems that since I've paid my car off, there have been lots of minor repairs that keep popping up. It is 10years old at this point, so I guess it is expected. I usually shop around a bit and get second opinions, and Premise is usually the cheapest, or will be honest if there is a less expansive way to repair rather than replace a part. This is the auto repair shop I will be patronizing going forward! Tin is a very soft-spoken and sincere person. They not only fix my oil leaking BMW (whereas one other repair shop had told me not to bother fixing it as it is a common problem for BMWs !!?!!), but also threw in free repairs for 2 other smaller fixes (which I appreciated alot). They are professional and while diagoising the leaks, they also found a few other problem areas, which Tin called to inform me and getting my approval to proceed to fix them. My 2000 Lexus GS300 hit 119,000 miles so decided it was time to get the timing belt changed. Did a search on Yelp and liked the sound of this place. Called them for a quote and Tom was very clear in explaining what needed to be done and how much it would cost. He said when they change a timing belt they also replace the water pump, the serpentine belt and some other things and included them in the price up front. When I got a quote from the Lexus dealership they only quoted the timing belt and said IF the water pump required replacing it would be extra. I like knowing up front what it's going to cost and felt Precise was being more candid. The following weekend I went over to check the place out. The shop is clean and the mechanics personable. Tom remembered quoting the timing belt right away. Anyway took the car over Wednesday morning and they were finished when I picked it up after work. They showed me all the old parts they removed and the receipt was very clear. The car runs good and I hope to get another 119,000 miles on it. I think their pricing is reasonable and they are competent and honest. What more can you want? read more

Tin and his team at Precise Auto Care is the only mechanic that I trust our family vehicles with. I typically take our family vehicles in for brake jobs, thermostat change, and coolant flush. I find Precise Auto Care's pricing cheaper than other shops around the Bay Area and Tin is VERY HONEST. Sometimes I'll buy parts from Tin and do the work myself because he can get OEM parts at a better price than dealerships. Tin never up-sales his customers for services that is unnecessary. I'd have to say, I really had a great experince with Tin and Tom from Precise. I took my car in yesterday to have a 90K service done. 2003 Toyota Sequoia is a beast and needs it's maintance done right! I spoke to Tin over the phone and explained to him that I also have the Vtrac light on whice is a main concern for these cars since it disables the skid control. He explained what needed to be done and how much. Tom, had my car further explained in detail the work done and why the light was on. After one day, got the car back, everything is working fine. He is extremely honest - on multiple occasions I thought something was wrong with my vehicle (noise, part, handling, etc) and each time he came back and explained 1 - if it did need to be replaced and why (he showed parts), 2 - that it did not need to replaced or 3 - that it will need to be replaced soon but it can wait until the next oil change. I was referred to this shop by a friend / family member. It's hard to find honest mechanics, I know it sound cliche but it's so true. Of course dealerships are super expensive for repairs!!!! So my parents have a Lexus and their transmission failed on them. Lexus was super expensive the labor was more than the part!!!! (of course). So I went to Tom at Precise. We have been there before to fix our Chevy. I asked if they worked on Lexus and of course they did!!! They are awesome! We took the Lexus in, Tom wanted to do his own inspection to make sure it was the transmission. 4 days later we got the Lexus back and it's running like new! He replaced the transmission, showed us the old one, and explained the part and labor warranty on the new one. They were honest and always called us to give us updates on what they found and the costs. He even called later to make sure we were happy. The guys at this shop are very honest and quick! AAMCO wanted to charge me $890 to fix my car and the guys at Precise charged me about 25% of that amount! They fixed my car while I waited and their price was very reasonable. I felt that they were very honest about the condition of my car and didn't try to charge me extra to fix any of the little things AAMCO was trying to squeeze money out of me for.
