I have been a loyal customer since Fernando had his shop on Almaden. I have always gotten great service and great customer service. Just recently I visited the shops and on that day I seen a new employee and didn't receive the service that I was used to, so I was hesitant to go back, but I did and took the chance and was met with Joaquín and he turned it all around and I left there knowing that I am glad I took that chance. They have always gone above and beyond to make sure my car was up to high standard with the maintenance when I left. I have seen many of his workers and never had any problems, so I won't let one bad apple spoil the others. I will defiantly keep my business here. I have been a loyal customer with them for over 10 years read more

Great service from start to finish. Fernando was professional, kind and made scheduling easy when we weren't sure what was wrong. They performed a thorough inspection and clearly walked us through what needed to be prioritized since the car wasn't safe to drive, which we really appreciated. They got to work right away and had the car ready the same day--super rare. We're really grateful and will definitely be back! read more

Do not trust this shop. The owner uses aggressive "hostage" tactics to force payment for unauthorized work that violates California Business and Professions Code § 9884.9. I was hit with surprise charges for work I never agreed to, and the owner refused to release my vehicle unless I paid cash immediately. When I questioned the bill, he became hostile, threatened me with $150/day in illegal storage fees, and even called the police to intimidate me. I have filed a formal complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) and the Santa Clara County District Attorney. If you don't want your car held for ransom, stay far away from this place. I'm surprised that he has 4 stars review, I have no doubt it's all paid ones read more

This is very poor customer service, and I feel like I've been cheated. I chose this place because my business is nearby. I came in and explained that I didn't know why my car wouldn't start, yet they didn't even attempt to turn it on to check. They immediately recommended replacing the battery for $300, but even after the replacement, the car still doesn't work. ----------- They replaced my battery and told me there was nothing wrong with it, but I still had to pay for the new battery. When I came in to pay, they said they didn't accept cards -- only Venmo or Zelle. So I sent a Zelle payment just to get my key back and take my car to another auto shop. I asked if I could take my old battery home since they said the battery was not the problem. The owner said no. He also told me that he knows where my business is, and if I don't remove my review, he will ask his wife, his daughter, and his cousins to leave 20 bad reviews for my business. And these are his family members leaving reviews without ever coming to my business. I'm sharing my true experience here so future customers understand how they conduct business and treat people. I appreciate the mechanic's time. I never asked for free service; I paid everything they requested. read more

I'm not one to write reviews but this business needs to be known. The owner is highly professional, knowledgeable and HONEST. We've always used the dealership but found ourselves in a bind and took a chance. I pulled up and saw the shop was in a gas station and wanted to leave. So glad I didn't. I highly recommend this business . As a former City Council member I'm glad it's in Santa Clara! read more

I have been going here for 4+ years. Ever since my old auto shop closed in the Pandemic. Fernando and his crew keep my car (Rav4) in great shape! Fernando is real good about explaining the services my car needs, which ones are more important and what can wait. i get great service at a price much better than the dealer offers! They even do things like change my windshield wipers for free between servicings read more

Fernando and his wonderful team at Preferred Auto Repair saved my car. I got it to him in the nick of time on the brink of dying and he brought it back to life in no time. He was incredibly knowledgeable, and knew everything that was wrong with it and took the care to explain why everything he was going to do needed to be done. I feel confident that my 20 year old car is ready to get me another 100k miles. No reason to go to anyone else than Fernando! read more

I have been a customer of Fernado and his team at Prefferd Auto for over Five years. They always do a great job, personable and very trustworthly. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for an honest high quality experience. I reached out to the owner after my sister had gotten her car repaired there. I brought in my Jeep, it had a transmission leak that three other mechanics "fixed" and every time the leak would return, it had been sitting for over a year and received little maintenance, as I expected there would be some other problems due to rust and corrosion. It took some time for him to identify the root cause-- he was very thorough with the inspection and diagnostics. There was quite a bit of work needed to get it back running in good condition and he was able to find a faulty sensor that had been overlooked by three other mechanics. He was very upfront about all of the work it needed and the costs (around 4K) he reassured me that all of their work is guaranteed. For parts and high quality labor, this feels like a good price. As a woman I really appreciate his communication and respectful demeanor, the customer service is top tier. read more

I failed the smog test and had to go Referee station. Others kept me ran around and can not fix the problems. Fernando is excellent he and his machanic has been able to solved the problems and fixed them. He is very knowledgeabl. Great mechanic to visit if you have problems. read more

Great service! He was very kind and professional. He explained everything clearly and made the process easy.

As a woman I find it hard to find a mechanic that will listen to me, let alone talk to me about my car without talking to me like I'm clueless. I found this place on Yelp and Fernando was so helpful and informative! After my consultation I knew I had to go with him! My car has seen some tragedies, but they still took care of it like it was their own. Excited to have my new break pads and drive down the 17 this weekend! Definitely stop by for a consultation. You won't regret it. read more

Horrible Business. Overcharged for radiator replacement and never fixed coolant leak. Quality was less than mediocre for the services requested. Ask, still managed for charge me $5k+ for issues that still exist on my vehicle. I wouldn't take my car, or any car here after this horrid experience. Furthermore, when I reached out about issues, owner said he would be happy to fix problem.... Never received a response from him after that smh. This business does not respect their customers, at all. read more

Service is really slow. Also they might charge you extra diagnose fee even if what you need is only oil change.

I took my car there on a Sunday right after I had the transmission fluid changed at another shop and it was making noise. Fernando was so nice he took a look and seen that transmission fluid was leaking and bolt was broke off. So now my car runs great thanks to him. Fernando is honest and kind. I will be going there from now on. read more

I use to go to Walmart for my oil change which might take as long as two and half hours. I found oil changers to be experts in oil changes and check all other fluids, filters and lights and air pressure in tires. Good Guys Thanks Mark read more

Went in for an oil change. Brought my own oil and filter. They were able to take me in immediately. It was a reasonably priced oil change. Highly recommended. read more

I've had my transmission pan replaced on my Lexus 350. After that I received many texts asking if there's anything else they can do for me. I sent a friend over to get an estimate on her 2011 Camry 100k maintenance. Fernando told her to come in & he'd take a look. He quoted her end of day 3k! And locked her car up so she couldn't pick it up. She couldn't afford the 3k upfront. He then told her it would be $200 to get the car! Did not tell her or make her aware of any fee when she just asked how much for the maintenance. This is bad, really bad. *edited* Now that I've posted this review, Fernando told her he's not accepting your debit cardIt must be cash. I would never do business with them again. Ali is very nice ! Very reasonable ! Just be a little patient with him because he had a baby but he does respond within 1 days! Definitely go to him! There's not a lot of good mechanics since everything's can be pricey! read more

Outright fraud. I could tell you what a ridiculous lying scumbag Fernando is, but there is no need when you can look at the photographic evidence for yourself. The receipt plainly shows TWO parts and labor for BOTH sides, but only did ONE. Straight up fraud. Not only did this crook not replace the part or do the labor, the old part is MISSING from the car. When I took it back, Fernando came up with a lie about how the sway bar is bent so the link could not be installed. Um, okay liar, then why did you charge for TWO in the first place. I have filed a formal complaint with the Bureau of Auto Repair. Watch Fernando come on here and lie some more. read more

I highly recommend them and reaching out to Fernando here for anyone in need of reliable and friendly service. They exceeded my expectations, and I'll definitely be returning for any future automotive needs. My favorite aspect was how responsive they were prior to taking my car in. read more

Fernando and his team has been so awesome and patient dealing with my tire issues! I first came in to get my tire air pressure filled, but then the low tire pressure alert came on probably 3-4 times after and EACH time Fernando fully examined it to figure out the issue. They're super responsive both via phone and text as well. After all their help, my tires are all good!! One thing you'll know is that Fernando will always provide genuine and less expensive option. This is much appreciated, esp because as a female sometimes I feel like auto shops take advantage because they feel like I don't know much though I do my research Thanks Fernando and crew! I will definitely be back. read more

My highest recommendation goes to Fernando, Joaquin, and the rest of the Preferred Auto Repair crew. Fernando was able to accommodate me on a Sunday, which is their busiest day, for a check engine emergency. He was very professional throughout the entire process and was very transparent with me about my car's issues, pricing, and the remaining potential of my 2009 car. He even sent me photos to demonstrate the problems. I cannot reach the phone during working hours, so he went above and beyond and texted me in great detail information and updates about my car while it was in the shop. When it came to picking it up, mechanic Joaquin was excellent. He too was very professional, approachable, and gave me recommendations on routine maintenance to extend the life of my vehicle. This company has gained a new customer. Rates are reasonable, with friendly and hardworking staff that is easy to communicate with. Thank you again, Fernando, Joaquin, and the rest of the crew! read more

My regular mechanic that I've been going for many years moved to Burlingame so I have to find somebody that I have to trust for our cars. I called this place Preferred Auto Repair and spoke to Fernando and he told me to bring my car to check the problem is. This is my second time coming I have used this auto shop and Angel has been a huge help along with the technicians that work along side him. They are honest and have fair prices that are very competitive compared to the other auto shops nearby. Preferred Auto Repair - Auto Repair Near Me - Santa Clara, California

Good people great customer service excellent and helpful, hope my review can help future customers and make them more coming business

What really stands out to me about Preferred Auto Repair was that they diagnosed the issue promptly and fixed the truck quite fast. I was amazed at how quickly they were able to get my truck back on the road, which saved me from any inconvenience or downtime. In addition, they were professional and straight to the point which I really appreciated. The overall experience was great and I look foreword to have them service my car in the future. read more

BEST AUTO REPAIR AND WONDERFUL STAFF ESPECIALLY JOAQUIN & FERNANDO! booked an appointment supposedly just for my brake pads, but before my appointment my car won't start, I got a text from Fernando that they are ready for my appointment but I told him that my car wasn't starting and he offered to send a mechanic to get it started for me. they did my brake pads and suggested to change my brake fluids (that hasn't been changed for the past 10 years) and battery as well. they did it fast and professionally!! the price was reasonable, too. and as a person who doesn't know anything about cars, I haven't change my windshield wipers since I got it, Joaquin also took care of it and changed it for me for free. (I really appreciate it) they don't just do their work, they go above and beyond to really make sure you're safe on the road after they fixed your car. highly highly recommended! read more

scammers... they will switch and bait you on service that you may not need and top of it will charge you exorbitant price for it too. My 90 year old father who donates food to their mechanics was swindled by the owner. The owner told him on the phone that they will fix the leak in the transmission and change the terminals for battery for his old car. Instead they changed the spark plugs and terminals and charged over $600 for a 2 hour job. Dad would never have agreed on the spark plug changes. Please be careful if you ever have to use this business. Get everything is writing. Best to find someone else. read more

Don't go , Too expensive !! just for my Acura tsx , charge $90 for oil change. Never again .

My car broke down due to an issue with alternator. Fernando was able to promptly and accurately diagnose the issue. Service was very expensive so then the shop owner (Fernando) told me that it's because his work is perfect and that if there is any problem in the next year and a half he would repair it for free. A mistake was made during the repair (it happens!!) as one of his guys (lovely by the way) ripped a piece from my trunk while repairing it. Now from there it went downhill I had the hardest time 1) getting a hold of the owner 2) getting him to admit it was his responsibility 3) getting him to fix it 4) meanwhile getting him to keep me updated on when this would be done He would tell me to call him back in 5' or that he would call me and would never do it or respond Phone or texts In the end, he got really rude with me out of frustration I guess. He never fixed what he damaged and started communicating in a way that was borderline. Fernando should definitely improve his way of communicating if he wants to qualify his work of perfect. Mistakes are totally human, but being dismissive, unresponsive and finally rude is unprofessional. read more
