If there were a lower star rating, I would choose it. Please do your due diligence before placing a…read moreloved one in this facility. I want to begin by recognizing the people who truly made a difference. The hospice nurse, Sheena, was exceptional -- compassionate, attentive, and everything you would hope for during such a difficult time. I am also grateful for Victoria in the Business Office. Of the several business managers I dealt with over three years, she was by far the most helpful. She consistently sent invoices to our long-term care insurance on time and even joined calls with the insurance company to resolve payment issues. She was professional and responsive, and I appreciate her efforts. Unfortunately, my overall experience with the facility itself was extremely disappointing. First, ask about annual rate increases. The monthly cost increased substantially each year. Most recently, the rate jumped $500 -- from $7,835 to over $8,300 per month. Second, be aware of their billing structure under the new ownership group, Pegasus. Charges are now split into a base "rent" plus a 1-10 care level rating. My mother was rated a 2 out of 10, and we were billed accordingly. Make sure you fully understand how this system works before signing anything as I can only imagine what they are charging those that "rate" higher. If you have long-term care insurance, monitor invoicing closely. Insurance coverage is only helpful if paperwork is submitted accurately and on time -- and that was a recurring issue until Victoria stepped in. One final note: My mother passed away at the end of January. I had her belongings removed from the room on February 1. Despite this, I received a final statement for over $3,600 for February because her passing was considered a "two-week notice." That policy, applied in that moment, felt deeply lacking in compassion and simply a money grab to give them more time to try and find another "cash cow." What is perhaps most frustrating is the broader reality that facilities are allowed to raise rates year after year with little oversight, while families are navigating one of the most vulnerable seasons of their lives. The generation that built this country should not feel like a revenue stream at the end of their lives. There seems to be minimal accountability around how aggressively these increases are implemented or how billing policies are structured. Greater transparency and oversight would go a long way in protecting families who are already under enormous emotional and financial strain. I rarely leave reviews, but I wish I had known these details beforehand. This is already one of the most stressful seasons a family can face. Ask detailed questions. Read the fine print carefully. Understand the billing policies in advance. Finally, if you are a company that responds to reviews to try and reduce the impact, please reach out to me and share with me how you aren't only concerned about money, because that is exactly how you come across. So please, don't come on here and give some BS corporate "company" answer as to how you think this is justified. I promise you, if we randomly asked 100 people if charging someone for two weeks and over $3600 after they have passed, you would not like the results. If what you are doing was justified, then when you submitted the invoice to the insurance company...they would pay it. The fact that they won't, isn't them being greedy...it's you...because it's flat out wrong to try and still profit from a dead person. IF you do want to discuss it, dont send someone on the payroll, send the suit wearing, luxury car driving F*$#@ who lacks logic! I genuinely hope your experience is different.

We were extremely fortunate to find this facility to care for our mother, whose decline in balance…read moreand memory required her to be in assisted living. After a very extensive search of the available facilities in the Leander and North Austin area, with visits to many of them, it was clear to us that Riva Ridge was by far the best choice. Given its small size, at the time of our interest there were no available rooms, so we asked to be put on the waiting list. The wait was well worth it. After moving there, our mother in a short period of time became accustomed to her new surroundings and the homey environment of the place, which is in stark contrast to the crowded-hospital feel of many facilities. Ken Missler is a hands-on owner of the place, and he and his staff are caring and compassionate while maintaining their professionalism in the day-to-day care. The range of residents' issues and capabilities is wide, and the staff engage the residents in games and art, etc., to the extent of the residents' capabilities. Visitation is essentially unlimited, though it was limited for a time during the pandemic in accordance with statewide COVID restrictions. The availability of both assisted living and memory care, performed in adjacent buildings, along with the availability of hospice care, are useful combined features of the facility that are not commonly found elsewhere. My very favorably view of Riva Ridge has been corroborated by others. My wife, as part of her church's visitation outreach to home-bound seniors, has visited many assisted living places in Leander and Austin. None has come close to the homey and comfortable environment of Riva Ridge. Once, when I was visiting my mother at Riva Ridge, I met a former nurse who was looking for a facility for her disabled husband, after removing him from another assisted living place that was not adequately caring for him. Having experience in these matters, given her occupation, and having looked at several possibilities, she told me she was very impressed with Riva Ridge and wanted to place her husband there as soon as possible. Our mother was at Riva Ridge for two and a half years as her health declined, the last six months in hospice care before she passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was taken care of, looked after, engaged with friendly and caring people. I thank Ken and his staff for taking such good care of her, and I unreservedly recommend Riva Ridge to others who need to find a place for their loved ones that require compassionate, professional care.

My mother in law has been there for only 6 months. Shortly after admitting her, we noticed that my mother in law was not bathed with very greasy hair, full and leaking diapers, feces on the toilet, etc. They said they were showering her but the amount of shampoo in the bottle we provided has hardly moved. Her room was a mess with feces never cleaned up (the smell was atrocious). She never had sheets on her bed, etc. We reported these issues to the director, Nathan, on 5/21/19 and as you can see from pictures taken 5/25/19, these issues were not resolved. This facility is unsafe. Just yesteday, I saw an unattended spill with a patient walking right by it. This facility is not properly staffed (1 staff for approx 20 patients after business hours). The director, Nathan, is a single point of failure for the facility and is in the wrong line of work. He should not be around the elderly and should not be the face of this facility. He has made alzheimers seem like a cake walk in comparison to how Harmony Point has treated both my mother in law and our family. My husband and I have medical power of attorney for my mother in law. Harmony Point has had their physician see my mother in law on at least 8 occasions without our knowledge and has also prescribed her 3 additional medications without our knowledge or approval. When one of these medications we did not know about was running out, Nathan called Family Protective Services on my husband and I for neglect - while we were on vacation. Yes, you read that correctly - the facility we pay $4k a month to care for my husband's mom has called FPS on us due to an RX running out that they never even had permission to give her in the first place. Nathan has outright lied to us in every conversation we have had with him and also blames the symptoms of Alzheimers on the patient and their family. They told us all the right things when we admitted her to the facility. Ever since, it has been a complete nightmare. We are moving her out of there asap and reporting to the state. This place needs to be shut down. I will write a much longer, detailed review at a later time. Update 9/23/19: hi Kate, nice to hear from you. Corporate was supposed to call us on 9/13 to follow up with next steps for my mother in law - still nothing. Just today, Jason called Nathan who told him our call with corporate would be tomorrow 9/24...which is laughable at this point. On 9/20, Nathan gave a paper full of lies about our family with a straight face. The letter also stated that you have been charging us $25/hr around the clock for a 1:1 care that we never were communicated about. I am reporting this facility for multiple issues including fraudulant charges. The only communication we have had is from us calling harmony point. Harmony point is a nightmare. Read your other reviews on here for reference and maybe do something about your main problem: Nathan. I have recordings and detailed documentation from all communications, so keep that in mind in your next response.
