The volunteer info facilitator was very friendly and passionate about her work, which I thought was great. It was amazing to learn about the different therapy horses (you can read their profiles online) as well as the therapy conducted (the facility works with children and adults with a variety of physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities, providing therapy and recreation opportunities using horses and horsemanship). If you have time in your schedule, enjoy working with children or horses, definitely look into volunteering at this awesome facility. Word to the wise: The volunteer information session may be hands on, so definitely don't wear your Sunday best and be sure to bring closed toe footwear. Update, 07.16.14: I cannot express how much volunteering here has positively impacted me. I have so greatly enjoyed working with the horses and seeing the growth and improvement in all of the children. It is so remarkable how understanding and encouraging the staff and horses are. I highly recommend supporting this facility in any way that you can.

The instructors are patient, kind, and passionate about their work. The horses are well cared for--lots of pasture time, cuddle time and play time. The clients I work with in lessons are respected and listened to: the instructors always make sure everyone is happy, safe, and learning lots. I highly recommend signing up to volunteer, you will have lots of fun, lots of hands-on experience, and help horses and people alike! The children and adults who do the therapy sessions are wonderful people, and the horses are elderly and wise: they know their routine and will always look after their riders and their caretakers.

It is well used by walking visors as well as cyclists on mountain bikes. We walked along the Meadowlark Trail, from the start point almost to the crest of the hill. We were part of a group led by a member of the Open Space Board, accompanied by a retired CU biology presser who spoke to us about the wild flowers we were seeing. It was a bit warm and windy today and near the end of the spring native flower season. It was quite dry already. If you want to in a self guided way, I would suggest several weeks earlier. Though if you go too early there will be mud, I learned from some locals. Share the trail , there are plenty of bikes and they were all courteous riders and we stepped aside for them too. A very nice place to visit. The trailhead has a bathroom facility and also serves the Coalton Trail which runs both east and west from the trailhead. It is clearly marked at the traffic circle on McCaslin.

At this location you will find a parking lot, a small pavilion, and a restroom. A primitive dirt and gravel trail starts here and traverses through many open fields and has a easy to medium difficulty level depending on your fitness level. The Coalton trail also connects with many other trails that lead to more rough and rocky terrain that heads down to Boulder. This is popular with hikers and mountain bikers.

She's out there in the dead of cold to care for a clients sick horse or breaking waters that have frozen. She maintains all the rings multiple times per week. During the recent barn break-ins she offered solutions for parking to keep the clients safe. If you need extra food for your horse, she has your back. My horses have never looked better and are very happy. The board is quite affordable and the amenities are huge. I've paid more at other barns and had to use portable bathrooms. The kitchen is not only heated but has a real bathroom. It makes me sad when trainers who come there to build their business end up being untruthful and don't pay their bills. It's not ok for the clients of those trainers to then leave very rude reviews. There are plenty of clients there that have been residents for MANY years and they are loyal to this barn including two large animal vets that spend so much of their time at the barn attending to the resident horses! If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy quality time with your horse, or to have your horse in training with one of the trainers at the facility, have open space to retire an old friend, or have a box stall with a run (with self care options) this is your place and if Emily isn't available to personally give you a tour then she will find one of the friendly staff members to fill in.

Horses are well cared for, stalls are bedded with a generous amount of shavings, feed stuffs are high quality. If something breaks (as happens around horses) it is very quickly addressed. ARS has been nothing but a great experience for us. For me, one of best features about ARS is an almost complete lack of drama. People are there to enjoy their horses, not to engage in gossip and junior high foolishness. Kathleen McPhaul, one of several trainers at the facility was the subject of a negative review for ARS on this site. If you are interested in working with Kathleen I would encourage you to look at her website and look at her nearly fourth year body of work, and don't over focus on the one review from a clearly unbalanced person. Kathleen is a very effective and accomplished trainer and instructor. She has long time customers who have become friends, and have reached goals and won competitions along the way. If you are a fit for her program, you will both have a great experience with your horse. If you need a place to enjoy your horses I hope to meet you at ARS.

It was 3 of us, including my 8-year-old son, and the conditions couldn't have been better--just a little snow, some mud, and plenty of opportunities for big splashes (which my son absolutely loved). We did a 5-hour rental, which felt like the perfect amount of time to explore without feeling rushed. The equipment was in great shape, and even the truck used to haul the ATV and trailer to the trailhead was well-maintained--everything felt professional and dialed in. The team really made the experience stand out. Everyone we interacted with was fantastic, and Andrew in particular was a superstar--he handled both checkout and check-in, made everything easy, and clearly cares about making sure customers have a great time. We'll definitely be back, especially to experience the trails in full snow. Highly recommend all around.
