Honey White, Spelt and Chocolate Banana Breads I got from Prairie Mills Bread Company - YUMMY!!!
    Michael B.

I just love going to Prairie Mill Bread Company! They such variety with wonderful tastes, local ingredients and organic flours. Each day they have different breads to choose from like Ancient Grain-Peasant Seed, Multigrain Spelt, Cranberry Orange, Jalapeno or Herb Cheddar, Spinach Onion, Rustic Rye, Apple Caramel & Apple Crunch, Sprouted Multigrain, Garlic & Parmesan, Sourdough Baguettes, Tomato Cheddar and Mediterranean. Don't forget their Chocolate Banana Bread and Strawberry Swirl plus MORE! Go in and have a sample of the day - it's worth it!! They are big on Non-GMO, organic and pesticide-free bread. If you love bread they you will love Prairie Mill Bread Company - (403) 282-6455, on 4820 Northland Dr NW #129 Calgary, AB T2L 2L4. I transcribed this from their website, "Prairie Mill bread is created with natural ingredients that travel minimally; from the field to our bakery to your table. We take great care in sourcing honey from Alberta apiaries and organic wheat from Saskatchewan, which is stone-mill ground at the bakery to produce fresh flour every day. When you come in you'll see our bakers kneading and shaping loaves by hand, and there will always be a fresh-baked slice for you to sample." Source: http://www.prairiemillbread.com/about-us/

I love Prairie Mill. I first got addicted to their delicious breads when they were located just outside of downtown. Then they had to go and move, and now I can only get my fix of "Honey White" when I have time to trek north during their business hours. Actually, I just browsed their website and apparently they deliver with Spud! I'm going to have to get on this. Prairie Mill is undoubtedly worth every penny... Their breads are very dense, and full of flavour. You get a really chewy bite, but it also takes a million years to toast. That's cool, as you can use that time to select which one of the delicious jams they stock to use. I do not recommend for grilled cheese. Experience, my friends. My recommendations include: the pesto parmesan, cinnamon raisin (the kids will love it), and the sunflower whole wheat. Carbs are so good.

Review Highlights - Prairie Mill Bread Company

I love their standard sliced offerings, and am having their multigrain sourdough for lunch right now -- fabulous: tasty, moist, soft yet dense.

Ever since we had kouign amann almost a decade ago in a French patisserie in Quito, Ecuador of all…read moreplaces, my husband has been on the hunt for the best kouign amann wherever we travel. The bad news is, there is no good kouign amann in Seattle or anywhere in the western US (so far, by our calculations). The fantastic news is that there IS stunningly delicious kouign amann in Calgary! I first balked at La Boulangerie because I had bookmarked two other bakeries to try. But I'm so glad we came here. Walking up to the storefront, I took in the quaint outdoor tables and the people enjoying a coffee and brunch. The first language I heard outside was French, which only added to the idea that we were in the right place. It wasn't busy when we walked to the counter at an off hour during the week, but I could see this place being slammed on a nice weekend. Do yourself a favor and take the time to look at all of the treats in the case. I had no idea which one to pick, but I'm so happy I went with the pear marzipan croissant - something I wouldn't easily be able to find at home. The savory breakfast crepes were tasty but could have been enhanced by a sauce on the side - the ingredients inside were a little dry. The Nutella latte was AH-MAZE-ING. Sweet, hazlenutty, but not overpowering. I immediately looked up a recipe for a future attempt to recreate it at home. The standout by far was the kouign amann, which comes in more than one flavor (insert mind blown emoji here). My husband chose a vanilla-filled one. Holy lamination. The layers, the glaze, the crunch. The vanilla cream filling was somehow both fluffy and delicately flavored yet sturdy enough to survive a day in the car. If I could fly back to Calgary every weekend just to buy a single kouign amann from this place, I would. Service was wonderful and we were surprised that that instead of calling our number, the staff walked each component of our order out to us. Highly recommend. Please visit and fulfill all your kouign amann fantasies!

Turned out not so. The pastries are dry and not good. The worse croissants I have eaten for awhile. Staffs are not too friendly neither. Parking is not free and the meter didn't take coins even though it has the option of taking coins. Overall we didn't like it.

Picked up a couple sweets and croissants from here. The croissants are colorful and filled, which…read moreis appreciated from both an aesthetic and taste perspective. There's some seating inside and a couple small tables outside; casual place. Most people seem to get their orders to go.
