I approached a male member of staff who was texting on his phone and politely asked if he was free to help me to which he replied not yet but will be shortly. I waited for approximately 10 minutes until he had finished texting at which point he completely ignored me and walked away to talk with one of his colleagues across the floor. I kept watching him to attract his attention but he would not make eye contact. After not being able to attract another member of staff we went to the till to ask. Another male member of staff proceeded to look up the item I had chosen on his phone and announced he had found it at a cost of £239 to which I replied it was advertised in store on special offer for £99. While he was still looking on his phone a young lady assistant arrived at the counter and she came to the fit bit section to advise me. She could not have been more helpful. I do not expect this store to last much longer with such rude male employees, the idea of being able to go to a store and discuss your needs before purchase is very desirable to me but not if the staff make you feel that you are a waste of space.

I would just like to express my utter disappointment after visiting this store at the Birstall…read moreretail park in Leeds after half 6 this evening. Upon entering the store I could see the few customers mulling around seemed suitably seen to by members of staff, one family sat at a computer were being seen to by 2. I located the range of tablets and was very interested in the Microsoft surface where 3 were on display. After a while of deciding I liked the product I then lapped the area trying to find a member of staff. Eventually I found a gentleman member of staff who I thought had finished speaking with a lady if he could help me buy a tablet. He said he was still dealing with a customer and avoided giving me eye contact whilst he said I'd have to wait. I thanked him despite finding it odd he didn't advise me towards anyone else. I spent another 5-10 minutes waiting around the laptops and wandered over to the iPads. When I wasn't seen to I circled the entire store and eventually found a gentleman at an information computer by the laptop cases. I approached and politely asked if he could help me purchase the tablet and showed him the offer that corresponded online. After the initially shrug of disappointment it was him I was actually speaking to he begrudgingly took the offer code from my iPhone and searched the product. Unable to come up with a reason why the same offer wasn't displayed he turned and spotted a college and marched over to the tablets shouting "shaz" to a fellow member of staff. I was left stood where I was. Presuming I should follow I was traded off on to now a third member of staff. When I explained I would like to buy a Microsoft Surface RT with a touch keypad but wanted to check the difference between the two shown online - one at £399.99 with free keyboard and the other at £479.99 inclusive of the keyboard. This new member of staff began searching his computer but stopped abruptly to pick up a boxed iPad on the side and shout to a 4th member of staff to store the box in the back, marching away and leaving me unanswered. I was about to walk out of your store when the 3rd member returned and eventually picked up a keyboard alongside the tablets and said he presumed one is fully boxed to include it and the other offer would come in two separate boxes. I said if that was the only difference for an £80 saving to have some additional packaging then I would like to buy one and in fact had £300 cash to put towards my purchase available. I was told to make my purchase online. In today's market and recession who, in their right mind, turns away a sale regardless of its high value!!! I am disgusted with the level of "service" I have received and left upset and disgusted in your store. Their posters advised as I left that their price promise is to beat Tesco, John Lewis & Argos. If they offer an ounce of customer service I would much prefer my money and custom were received by them!

No order number given but money taken out of my account straight away. General phone number advises me to email - but no response from a 'person'. - just one automated email to say someone would call me within 48 hours.. No body did. Phone number at the shop just rings out and then cuts off. The WORST !!! My 86 yr old mum still does not have a tumble drier. No idea what to do next - it's been nearly 2 wks and no response or acknowledgement of my order. ZERO RATING.

Week later, 5/6, rang again told it 'may' be dispatched that week. Week later, 12/6, rang again told it 'may' be dispatched that week. 14/6, (a Friday) received an email advising it would be delivered on the 17/6 (a Monday) I did not see the email until 6 pm, and it advised the Goods would not be delivered if their were stairs, something that was never mentioned during the buying process (but I have since found in the small print). I am disabled, and live in a first floor Maisonette, so this was not practical. I rang their Couriers immediately only to get a recorded message stating that their Offices were closed, and only open 9-5 Mon-Fri (note I had not even seen the notification email till 6 pm) Monday 17/6, 9 am, rang Couriers and made them aware of situation, and offered a solution that if the Goods could be delivered after 3 pm I could have help here to bring the Goods into my home if the Driver dropped the Goods at the bottom of the stairs. This was refused outright, I was told the Goods would be returned to the Depot and would need to be re booked, and I would need to pay a further £20 for them to deliver this into my Home, and it was unlikely it would be re delivered that week (this was 9 am Monday morning remember) as they were very 'busy'. Friday 21st received a call in the afternoon saying the Goods would be delivered on the 27/6, Again, I reiterated I was unwilling to pay a further £20 to have the Goods delivered into my Home (this after waiting what would have been a whole month by this stage) as this had not been made clear at the buying stage, and if the Driver would deliver after 3 pm I would arrange my own labour, (i.e.friends when they had returned from work), to bring the Goods up the stairs. This was agreed, after the Salesman intimated I was fortunate I was not be charged for the original delivery being cancelled by the Courier!!! Tuesday the 25th received an email from AO, informing me they were offering a 20% discount on their Goods, I rang them and it transpires the Hoover Washing Machine Model I had ordered from Power Direct was discontinued as a older Model, and for just £16 pounds more I was offered the Model that had superseded it, their Drivers could deliver into my Home, at no extra charge, and, they could do it within 2 days!!! so it would be due on the exact same date as the one I had waited for over a month for from Power Direct to arrive. I duly took them up on the offer, and you would think this saga would end there. But it doesn't I rang the number Power Direct has as their customer number on their website, three times, never got a reply. I also rang the number the Salesman had called from on the previous Friday, twice, no reply. So, I sent an email explaining the situation and informing them I wanted to cancel. This morning (26/6) I received a phone call from the same Salesman who had called Friday asking why I wanted to cancel, I explained my primary concern was delivery, and their refusal to bring the Goods into my home unless I paid a further £20, and my other concern that if the Company was this lax and I had not even received the Goods yet, what would happen if I had a problem under the guarantee? I was also annoyed at the fact the Goods were not delivered in a timely manner (its been over 30 days now, and several trips to the Launderette later, which is no fun when you are disabled, and X amount of Pounds spent on these jaunts) the Salesman then launched into what can only be described as a full on rant, has I had agreed to take delivery during our Friday phone call, and that he had said it would be delivered into my home at no extra cost, basically, he was calling me a liar, which is patently untrue. Eventually when he had grasped the fact I was not about to change my mind, he said he would pass it on to the relevant Department, and they would decide what the restocking fee would be!!!! I informed him I would not be paying a restocking fee, not only because they could not deliver the Goods in a practical manner, they had also exceeded time quoted on their site by over a week, as the first attempted delivery ordered and paid for 25/5, was not even attempted delivery until 17/6. The Salesman insisted I would be liable, I insisted I wouldn't,and that was where we left it. I will keep this page appraised of the outcome. Update, the Machine ordered from AO on the afternoon of 25/6 was delivered at 8.30 this morning, 27/6!!!

But I really like what Ikea does and I love their design ethic in terms of value to high end, most stuff is usually pretty cool and as long as you don't do an Edward Norton in Fight Club and you have the whole apartment decked out page to page then it's all good. I've gotta say though that I find the food in the cafe becoming a bit too Anglicised/Americanised with less Swedish influence than it used to have. I had to really search for the gravlax and the daim bar cake seems to be getting poorer in quality. Saying that it's not biggie but I hope they do stick to their food values and always sell their Swedish wares!

There is no doubt that Ikea has some very appealing items and, generally speaking, the prices are OK but I so hate the layout and the way I am herded along the pre-determined route to make sure I see absolutely everything. The one thing I hated even more than the layout today was the checkout. I only had one item but, because I was paying cash, I had to queue for a 'manned' till behind about 7 people who had obviously chosen today to refurnish their entire house with Ikea goods. I could only gaze longingly at the express checkouts which are all card only
