Beautiful venue. The architectural designs is breathtaking. Went here with my kiddos on a field trip to see "Giraffe Can't Dance." Staff were very nice & interactive with the kids. The got them prep prior to entering the actual show by going over basic instruments, coloring, conducting and even an obstacle course! We did not partake in any food. Powell Symphony Hall. My husband and I won a giveaway from Deluxe Magazine for tickets to see "Eternal: A Tribute to Tina Turner". One of the best shows I've been to in a while! The renovations to the building were great! The staff as always were polite and welcoming. The show itself, absolutely wonderful! We got to dance, sing along, and have a grand time! I always enjoy visiting the Symphony. The musicians and artists are truly amazing and talented. So glad that the work they put in brings international recognition to the talent that we have right here in St. Louis. read more

Tuesday 1/27/26 Visited Powell Hall to see and hear Historian and author Doris Kearns Goodwin sponsored by Maryville University as part of the 25-26 Speaker series. A very interesting discussion covering the past presidents being compared to current events. Ms Goodwin has written 8 bestselling books but for this review I will mention a few of my favorites. She has written The Bully Pulpit and the Team of Rivals concentrating on Abraham Lincoln and his time dealing with the civil war and the presidency. She also has books about Theodore and Eleanor Roosevelt The Home Front in World War II. She was a 24 year old that earned an opportunity to work in the LBJ presidential term and eventually working with him on writing his memoirs after graduating with a Phd in government from Harvard taught a course on American presidency .This was a fantastic speaker series. Try to take one in the next time they are offered you will not be disappointed. There are many different speakers to choose from in the Maryville University sponsored event. . read more

Had a lovely evening at the symphony. Came 45 minutes before the show started to take pictures. Ordered moscato from the bar and it was the best $10 I've ever spent. I will say my friend and I parked in the parking garage nearby and it was completely deserted and the parking attendant was BEYOND creepy. He hit on both me and my friend upon arrival and then as we walked to the symphony he stepped out of the ticket booth to catcall again. I would recommend parking in the designated symphony lot. read more

Got to experience Powell Hall after all the renovations. I was impressed. They retained the original foyer area (with updates of course). They added more bathrooms, entrances and additional bars too. The seats seemed to be better as well- more leg room at least it seemed that way to me. We had never had to wait in a line at the bar, bathroom or to get in. read more

The first half of January featured a Therese H birthday, as it always does. This year, the BD experience included "Music in Motion" here on a Sunday afternoon. It has been YEARS since we've visited. I love the way in which the new Taylor Music Center integrates so seamlessly and well with the renovated "old" building. In days long past, we entered the front doors and immediately were thrust into a thick crowd. Now, the approach has better traffic flow. I purchased two seats on the aisle in the back half of the orchestra. Sight lines and acoustics were fine. The music and dance were fabulous, of course. Thanks PSH, for the TH BD treat. read more

I had such an amazing experience recently watching Jurassic Park live that I'm going to become a regular! I love the Powell Symphony hall! I go a few times per year and it is always a great time! I recently went to thier free Juneteenth concert and it was spectactular! They had a great program and it is always varied- not just instrumentals by the orchestra, they had the choir singing as well, had a few spoken word moments and they also had some outstanding soloists! I love attending their Christmas concerts too! I love being able to afford tickets relatively close, so I have never had to sit in the nosebleed section. I can't wait to see how their renovations and additions enhances this gorgeous venue! read more

My hubby took me to the symphony on a surprise date and I loved it . It was a tribute to Whitney Houston night and it was quite elegant. I loved it all . The location was great. Parking was right across the street , thank god since it was so cold. It felt like royalty when you walked in. They gave you fans in case you were hot, a booklet of the night events and coat check for your coats. The singer was great and the music was awesome. Those instruments can make music on its own . The ambience was beautiful. Drinks were expensive and not worth the price and no food was offered. But that's not a deal breaker I'll definitely be back read more

I came here last week for a Christmas concert with Oleta Adams and the In Unison Chorus. Powell Hall is probably my favorite performing art space in St. Louis. It is a beautiful building and even more beautiful all decorated for Christmas. The concert was full of magnificent music and put me in the Christmas spirit. I also enjoy coming here when the symphony orchestra plays the score along to movies. So far I've been to Harry Potter and Jurassic Park. I hear that they have recently upgraded their sound system so that the dialogue of the movie sounds better. Cannot wait to be back for another concert soon! read more

I've been going to Powell Symphony Hall since I was a little kid first starting to play the violin back in 1998. Even though I have a lack of talent when it comes to actually playing a musical instrument, I have a deep appreciation for those who possess such skills! My latest trip to Powell was for the live orchestra viewing of Star Wars: A New Hope. The symphony hired the local 501st Legion (volunteers who dress as canon characters from the Star Wars films and donate the proceeds to various charities) to come in and and take photos with guests in the entrance area. What's better than Stormtroopers and chandeliers in the background, am I right?! The Symphony also offered a Star Wars-themed cocktail called "Force Fuel" at their bar. Think neon green alcohol with a kind of lime jello taste. All in good fun. When the movie was about to begin and the orchestra starting playing, I got goosebumps. It was incredible as a Star Wars fan to see A New Hope on the big screen with a live orchestra! The interior architecture of Powell Symphony Hall is also stunning. I've shot an engagement session here before (you can rent out the building for 2 hours for $350), and it makes for some pretty incredible images! You do have to comply with the union and let the staffers plug in any equipment, but the staff are all super accommodating and friendly. If you are in St. Louis and have yet to go to Powell Symphony Hall, do yourself a favor and get a ticket for a show soon! read more

Home to the St Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Powell Hall is a grandeur to behold. It's a lovely piece of architecture and a magnificent orchestra concert venue. I have a confession. I've actually never been to the symphony until they decided to perform a concert series for the Harry Potter films and being a huge Potter nerd, I couldn't miss it! It started about 2 years ago with Sorcerer's Stone and is continuing with the rest of the films in the series. I was so ecstatic during my first visit. First of all, I consider music to be truly magical and to sit at the Powell Hall and enjoy the film with scores performed by a live orchestra is such a beautiful, magical thing. There are plenty of options for seating. I will need to try the first level/orchestra level some day soon because the stage view looked even better from down there. I've only ever sat at the box dress circles and once at the dress circle but I feel like the view of the stage is terrific wherever you decide to sit. I mostly prefer the box because it's not as close seating as all the others (2 seats on each side). They have concessions throughout the building. Their employees are also very helpful with finding your seats. The entire place is quite grand as far as the interior decor goes and the spacious, semi-winding staircases are great for crowd management as well as aesthetics. I would love to check out their other concert series some day! Either way, I'll definitely be back. read more

I went to the symphony to enjoy symphonic dances, classical Rachmaninoff. The symphony orchestra performed well as usual. I don't think people truly appreciate how amazing our symphony is here in St. Louis. Guest pianist Orli Shaham performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4. To say it was exquisite barely characterizes the way she dazzled the crowd this evening. Anyway the evening was meant to reach out to the young crowd of St. Louis and there was definitely a nice turnout. An after party was planned and it was carried out well too. I can't wait for the next performance. I'd live at Powell Hall if it ever became an option. read more

For me, the show begins with my eyes, however, at a symphony hall, it's about the acoustics- Powell Symphony Hall is sound rich. This venue is among the best. I'm looking forward to touring the hall on my next visit to St. Louis; tours of Powell Hall are free and last one hour. I attended the Merry Holiday Celebration, and loved every second of it! The view and sound from the dress circle was supreme. The concert ended with a sing-a-long to common Christmas time tunes, so fun. We went to Powell for the Youth Symphony and it was beautiful! The building is beautiful with the grand staircase, chandeliers, and general magnificent architecture. The concert is free and it was wonderful to hear the very talented youth of St. Louis. They are so talented! Parking can be difficult, especially if you are looking to find it for free. We found some street parking about 3 blocks away. Bathrooms were clean and, despite the large crowd, surprisingly plentiful. They even have water fountains whichsmall paper cups you can use which was helpful! read more

Typically this show occurs around Christmas and we have started a family tradition of attending it. I don't believe that there is a bad seat in the building and the sound inside the hall is amazing. The symphony hall is gorgeous with beautiful walls, dazzling lighting, and great audience. The production was flawless. So were the performances. David Robertson is a brilliant director. I was told by the couple next to us that the St. Louis Symphony is ranked 2nd in the World (**EDIT: Further research online can not back this claim up. So it is most likely false, although they are highly ranked in the U.S.) Today I learned why. What a beautiful concert! We sat towards the center in the Dress circle and the view was great. I think I want to be a bit closer next time. The theater itself was pretty and dressed with rich history of a glamor of old. Chandeliers are placed through out the hall and blended so well with the bright and light interior. It is nice to peek around at the interior as the music plays, at times, to put beauty to the eyes as well as to the ears. Beverage: The lemonade tasted freshly squeezed and was sold at a separate stand then the rest of the beverages. I enjoyed that very much. Food: A caterer sold 2 different meals that were served with chips but we were not hungry. Seating: The leg room is very cramped, especially for my tall husband, where we sat. That is why we will move to where there is more leg room next time. I was very happy to see there are early Friday concerts. Not an overly cool environment but this was a very hot day. I have always wanted to go to hear the Symphony. I was offered tickets and I actually got giddy..... I asked a friend who wanted to go but her husband said it would be boring. We did the street parking, which it is free after 7 pm. They could have used a few more ushers, we had to get on the floor to get a program. We finally found our seats, the lights dimmed and the music started. It was so relaxing, then a lady came out and sang. I don't think that you can have a bad seat at the Symphony.
