I have never been treated so poorly by a pediatric dentist. Yesterday, I was told my son's tooth could be filled instead of getting a crown. Today, after he was already numbed and on laughing gas, the dentist suddenly announced they were pulling the tooth. I refused--he starts school tomorrow--and the dentist then refused to fill another tooth we had discussed, telling me to "find a different dentist." My child was left confused, scared, and half-numb for no reason. This is not how families should be treated. read more

Poor Communication and Last-Minute Treatment Changes Yesterday, I spoke directly with the pediatric dentist about my son's treatment for 2 teeth. The dentist said there was a possibility he might need a baby crown for one tooth, but after I explained that I didn't want that, he told me it would most likely be possible to be left the tooth alone instead and that a crown wouldn't be necessary. But the another tooth need the filling. I repeated to him that it's going to be just the filling and no crown. The dentist confirmed. Today, when I brought my son in for the scheduled filling, the dental assistants said it's going to be extraction and filling, so I explained to her. She said she will let the dentist know. RDH had already numbed his mouth and given him laughing gas before the dentist came in. Only then did the dentist tell me that they were going to pull the tooth. I told him I did not want the tooth pulled the day before my son's first day of school and he didn't mention about the extraction in our conversation yesterday. The dentist then said he would not be able to fill the second tooth we had discussed and told me to "find a different dentist and get a second opinion." I left feeling upset and frustrated by the lack of communication, the abrupt change in treatment after my son was already numbed, and the way my concerns were dismissed. Parents deserve honesty, respect, and clear information about their child's dental care. read more

This place came highly recommended from my general dentist and my sister in law. The were both right! This place is great! My 3 year old had way more cavities than expected, enough that we had to do general and put her down, and book an outpatient procedure. Dr. Bhakta was her doctor and he was sooo nice. This was during covid so only one parent could go in the back while I waited six feet apart in the waiting area. My husband said Dr. Bhakta was very nice, polite and calm. He brought her a Beanie Baby so she would have a friend to hold. Our daughter was soo happy to get the surprise baby her doctor brought her. Dr. Bhakta was done with the procedure around the one in a half hour mark. When he was done he pulled both my husband and I aside and explained what he did in detailed and that she did great. He told us we were welcome to go and sit next to her while she wakes up. He said he would see us again in about 4 weeks and that we were good to go when she wakes up. The best part was, he personally called us an hour later and again 3 hours later to make sure she was okay. Not only did Dr. Bhakta call us to make sure our daughter was okay, his office staff also called us to make sure she was okay. Dr. Bhakta and his stuff went above and beyond the call of duty and we are so grateful. Skip to six month later and we take both our girls to their 6 month check up, Dr. Bhakta and his stuff were just as wonderful as the first time we encountered them. They make it so fun that our girls are so excited to go to the dentist! Our youngest just turned one and had never been to the dentist and she loves it. They have chair what leans way back and they have TVs for the kids to watch while they get their teeth clean or a procedure done. It's a pretty awesome set they have going. Due to Covid things have changed. They are just now starting to give out balloons and books again. There isn't a lounge center anymore. read more

My last visit with my 4 and 5 year olds was pretty disappointing. This has not been my previous experience so I hope the change in ownership is not the reason and it was just one of those days. I was there 10 minutes prior to my appointment and was seen 20 minutes after my appointment time. During the 30 minute waiting period there were so many families going in and out it felt like we were squeezed in, even though I made the appointment 3 months prior. Definitely got the strong sense that they are running a business! While my children were getting serviced, the ladies were very pleasant and did a good job with X-rays and cleanings. However, when doctor came to my 5 year old that required further treatment he explained a few options regarding treatment of 6 teeth. I walked out a little overwhelmed but accepting of the plan. After, I had to wait a few minutes to pay my deductible at the front desk as a family was ahead of us. When it was our turn, the receptionist informs me that the doctor made a last minute change to my sons treatment plan and will additionally be extracting his 2 front teeth to treat a total of 8 teeth!?!?! I asked why he wanted to extract his 2 front teeth as they were not teeth we had discussed and she couldn't give me an answer. I asked to speak to the doctor and she told me he was unavailable in a meeting. I requested a call from the doctor and she said she would relay the message and he never called. :( What a bummer!! The reading books and balloons the kids get are a nice touch but this last service was highly disappointing. Not sure if we'll be back. read more

Maybe it's because of COVID, but we appreciate the empty waiting room and service was extremely fast! You complete the paperwork online prior to child's appt; which makes it efficient. Like Maria A.'s review, we were in and out in about 40 mins. Facility was clean and staff were friendly. The hygienist was patient and handled my 3 y/o with ease. She explained every step, tool and move she was to make. Dr. Rawson was cheerful and you can tell he had a smile even with a mask on. Each chair had a tv and they asked the child what he wanted to watch on Netflix. We were referred by our pediatrician and glad to be coming back!!! read more

Went to another dentist in Lemoore to check out redness in my kiddos gums and he said it was caused by trauma and to wait 6 months and come back to check on it. She's never had any trauma so I decided to get a second opinion at Powell Pediatric Dentistry. Within minutes of assessing her, Dr. Smith was trying to pry a piece of plastic from around the tooth that was hidden below the gum line and completely encircling her poor tooth. He had it out quickly, stopped the bleeding, and we're guessing it was the tip of a chewed off plastic straw. (How!?? Kids, man.) Very very impressed and grateful for his attentive eye and skillful care of my daughter. read more

Reason for this One star review is based on their sterilization process on their instruments they use. My child was seen on two different dates. One in August for a regular cleaning checkup. Another one just recently for a tooth extraction. Now their service is great never had a problem with their services. The problem here is that they DO NOT clean their tools. Both times I took my child to appointments here, my child ends up getting STREP. Now I know its coming from them not sterilizing their instruments, because how is it that my child gets seen on two different occasions and comes back positive for Strep BOTH times? They need to obviously sterilize properly especially if they are working in dental. read more

I took my 2 year old and 10 month old for their first visits and had a GREAT experience. The ladies at the front desk were friendly and helpful. The hygienists were so friendly and patient with both kids. They made them feel comfortable, which made it easy to listen. I was so proud of my 2 year old, but credit that to how well they worked with him. We saw Dr. Rawson and he was great too! My son felt so comfortable with him, he even wanted to give him a hug when he was done! We were done quickly too, which is helpful with little ones. This place is a joke. The "doctor" will not allow you to speak or question anything they do. Just accept whatever they say and do, and don't say a word or they're not going to have it. They have gotten to big for their britches. A cavity, turned into a root canal with a crown, which turned into them just extracting her tooth, either from a mistake or a time crunch. read more

Without hesitation, this is hands down the BEST pediatric dentistry practice. I am continually impressed by the hygienists' communication skills with my children, and the gentle, patient-focused way everyone here treats me and my children. I just really can't speak highly enough of this practice. I am a healthcare provider and have NEVER been in a healthcare environment that is SO POSITIVE, kind and gentle. Am I the first review? I'm honored! We had an awesome experience today. After a not so great experience at our first pediatric dentist I decided to give Powell Pediatric a call and I'm glad I did. My 2 year old is a bit of a live wire and they were fantastic with him. The office is very clean and comfortable. There are TVs above each chair and they'll put on a movie your child likes specifically. They have books to give away and balloons. My tot was in heaven. They do a great updated treatment called SDF or silver diamine fluoride. Best thing since sliced bread. I had a hard time finding a dentist in the area that did SDF in order to keep a cavity on my son's tooth from progressing and to avoid sedation or a filling at his young age. They simply paint it on the cavity area every 6 months. Thankful we found this office. We will be back! read more

Love bringing my son to this dentist. Everyone is super friendly and professional. Every time I have an appointment we are in and out in less than 30 minutes, I love it! My five year old loves it too! He gets to watch Netflix while they work on his teeth and everytime he goes he gets a goody bag (the usual dentist stuff), a balloon and a book! I absolutely LOVE this dental office! The staff is so kind and the dentists are great with the kids. I love that they are big on making the kids feel comfortable during their visit and let them choose what to watch on the tv while they are getting their work done. I've taken my daughter here for three years and never missed an appt. Sunday she had a fever so per their policy I called Monday morning to let them know and the secretary said they'd let it go this time but if we cancel again they can't reschedule us - we'll have to call back over and over until we can get an appt and if we cancel a third time we won't be able to be seen at their facility anymore. I explained I'm not canceling - it's their policy and that we would not be bringing her back. Be prepared to fill out five pages on their patient portal prior to each appt - it is very glitchy and takes a long time to get through it. They still require masks, you have to wait in the parking lot before your appt and now they won't even let you schedule siblings at the same time. I switched my daughter to my dentist and they were able to get her in for later this week where Powell Pediatric said it would be three months before they could schedule her again. I'd rather take her to a family business where they have compassion. read more

We started treatment at this office. Our first visit went well for my daughters cleaning and x-rays. The second visit for a filling went well, this appointment was at 8:30. Our third visit was for a filling and a crown and due to limited availability we accepted an appointment in the afternoon, around nap time. Our daughter was just too cranky to set through dental procedures and so we went home with a rescheduled appointment for a 8:30. This appointment went pretty well. The crown went able to be placed and the dentist ended up pulling her tooth. The dentist was planning on putting in a spacer without even talking with us. Fortunately, our daughter was done and they scheduled us to come back. When I called the office to ask questions about the spacer, since her dad would be taking her as I was out of town, I was told we were already charged for it. Then I'm told by Brook that they are going to have to reschedule that appointment because Dr. Bhakta put a note in the chart that only Mom can be at appointments. I told her I would like to come in and speak to Dr. Bhakta about this note and also about the spacer that was already charged to my account. So we scheduled to speak with Bhakta. My husband tried to have a conversation with him and he just ran him over. We relieved a letter from their office relieving them from service. Now I have a bunch of bills for services they didn't do. We were in and out in 40 minutes! My 7 year old did great, however, I believe the staff played a major role. The assistant explained each step to my son, showed him the tools that would be used (except the needle) which she was careful not to let him see. The dentist was great. He also explained to my son what was being done. Extremely satisfied. Smileland traumatized him a couple of years ago (strapped him down twice) and the fact that he got through today's work was great. read more

This is my first experience at a pediatric dentist and as a first time mom I was extremely nervous about how the appointment would go, but I am very pleased with the service we received today. They are respectful of the parents wishes, were gentle with my little guy, and at the end he got a balloon and a book for doing so well. We will definitely be back. We absolute love this office and staff! My son is two and is a nightmare when it comes to any medical appointment. The front office has toys, books and movies for the kids so it made my son feel at ease. When we got called back my son freaked out and cried but the DA and doctor were so friendly and worked with my son so he was laughing and comfortable towards the end of the visit.
