Our parish hosted an event here and I had a lot of fun playing volleyball and pickle ball. There was about 50 of us and we rented 3 courts . I think it's a fair price ($50 per hour). They had a bar which was cool however I wish they had food. I checked their website prior to coming and it mentioned that there would be a food truck but no food truck showed up. Bummer! I visited this place this past Sunday, 3/30. I went for the all you can eat crawfish by Phil's Crawfish. The price was $35 without sides and $40 with the sides included. I did without the sides. The crawfish was very good, flavorful, and they were decent sizes. I don't do spicy food and the crawfish wasn't too spicy. I definitely appreciated that. I usually don't care for Cajun flavor, but these were really good. The whole setup over there is really nice. Nice vibe and atmosphere. There is an area for sand volleyball and a place where kids can play. The process of getting the crawfish, they really have a good system. You get a band and a to go box. They have places where you can sit, buckets, paper towels, and extra seasonings if you would like to add more. They open up at 1pm. I suggest you get there early if you want a seat and he does run out before close time. However, I did get my money's worth. My only take away is that they should let you know not to throw your to go box away. You use the same box to get the crawfish. As a newcomer, I didn't know that and almost threw mine away. I was with my friend who told me that I am suppose to keep it. Overall, I had a great experience and I will be back. This is a great place for families or friends to meet and enjoy each other's time. I swear the unplanned days be the best days. I woke up wanting crawfish.. sent out a text to the chicas and we went to visit our friend Phil's Crawfish! He had the all you can eat for $35 or 40 with the sides. They have the bar for your drinks. DJ Alex aka DJ A- Track was in fire...he played all the line dances so we worked off all the calories! The REAL volleyball players were there for our entertainment. Htx nitro creamery was there and they literally make the ice cream in front of you...omg soooo good...the best cookies and cream eva!!! They also had the car scent lady there and the scents were awesome...had to grab a few! Then we had free Don Julio St Patricks Day dranks! I've been coming to Powder Keg for +2 years now, and it used to be a 5/5 place to hang out. Now, it's hovering a 1/5 or 2/5 so this long overdue review averages out to a 3/5. Happy hour is Open-6PM on weekdays. $5 drafts, $4 frozen drinks, $4 shots, reportedly. The hours are on their site but the specials aren't really posted anywhere that I noticed. They also have a $3 "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" or "Brown Bag Special" that's a random beer for $3 anytime. I've gotten 20+ of these over the years and it's anything from a PBR, Coors, pickle or jalapeno beer, or a nice draft IPA if you get lucky. There's tons of parking and the bar is fully open. Usually come to hang out when walk-in is available on the volleyball courts. They have an online reservation system at $50/hour, but accept walk-ins while there are no reservations. In my experience, larger groups tend to book for an hour or two and then stay on the court and not let anyone else take it. Smaller groups are usually happy to rotate in games with other groups. The hours were recently updated, but were incorrect for a while. Some new bartenders would close the bar whenever and rudely turn the lights on and off on the volleyball courts without coming to mention anything. They don't post holiday hours or any notice on closures. What really drops my score of Powder Keg is the new policy on booking courts on the same day. This is not possible on their online reservation system, so we came with 12 people expecting to walk in and agreed with another group to take the court after their reservation ended. As soon as we start playing, another group comes by and says they paid the bartender cash to reserve the court on the spot and kick us off. Cool, that's not anywhere in the policy. We let it slide and asked to reserve a different court, at which point the bartender said that they were all booked. This was blatantly incorrect, as we asked another group if they had a reservation and they said "no" and allowed us to play in. So, the new bartenders are clearly discriminatory. Lastly, the kids after 9PM rule is strongly dependent on who is bartending. I've seen kids after 9 often and some bartenders turn a blind eye, whereas another threatened to report my friend to the police if he brought his children again. Sometimes, they host cool events and bring live music. I've always seen people have fun at those. Overall, I will still come to Powder Keg as an option for sand volleyball in West Houston but the new bartending staff is much ruder than before. Nice place to spend the afternoon in a large open covered outdoor venue. Lots of activities including table tennis, bean bag toss and a sand volleyball game. Bring your own table tennis paddles. Have a fur baby? There is a nice open dog park to let your puppy run around safely. Hungry? Grab a bite from the taqueria. Thirsty? Go to the cargo container painted with graffiti for something to drink. Lots of picnic tables and screens throughout to watch the game. The place is large, with more than enough room for multiple groups. They come equipped with a number of sand volleyball courts, a fenced in dog park, food trucks, a full bar, and a massive covered pavilion. The staff at the bar were super fast and pleasant. The facility requires masking when not seated (YASSSSS!!!!), and has sanitizer at the door. It was a great day out, in a great location, with a pack of cute furballs roaming around. We came here for a private work event - the space is no fuss but provides all you would need for a fun team building event/afternoon out with friends. They utilize old shipping containers for most of the facilities (minus the old warehouse converted into an open-walled space for the cover), so it has a laid back and industrial vibe to it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIND A WAY TO KEEP THE DOG PARK AREA DRY.... The volleyball court shower is right next to the dog area and ALL the water drains into the dog park. The kids played in the water ALL night and therefore there was no relief. Not sure who thought it was a good idea to place the showers there but it really makes the dog park a muddy mess in one area. Ok so now for the good stuff!!! Love love love the outdoor concept! Plus I was super excited that we could bring our dog to play. Despite him being a muddy mess when we left he had a great time playing with the other dogs. Drinks were really good. And there were plenty of tvs to watch the game. The restrooms were clean and air conditioned. There was one Mexican food truck there. I'm hoping they have more trucks when we return. Overall....We enjoyed it! I have to say... the dog park could be a lot bigger considering the space they are using. They should make an oasis for these guys! Throw in the whole 9 yards! This place is awesome, but it's NOT a kid's playground. We came for the Texans game, and there were small children running around everywhere with no supervision. The kids were even going in and out of the dog park freely. They came in screaming and yelling and charging at the dogs. One kid ran in and just scooped up a random dog. I saw the owner looking a bit shocked standing to the side, so I had to ask the kid not to grab other people's dogs without asking first. Although this kid understood me, the rest were still running around with their hands out, touching and grabbing other people's dogs. Again, there were no parents around. These kids could have gotten seriously hurt, or the dogs could've gotten hurt. On the other side, some people were playing volleyball, and there were kids playing all over the sand. A stray ball could also really hurt a child, or something else could happen. Please watch your dogs and your kids for the safety of everyone, and please be considerate of others who are here to enjoy themselves, too. read more

Just discovered this place yesterday on Yelp because we were looking for a good patio bar to watch the Astros. This place fits the bill perfectly! 16 big screen high-def TV's, plenty of seating, really cool patrons and great drink choices. There's a food truck onsite that has some great smelling and tasty looking tacos and such but haven't tried it yet. Probably will tonight. Great for dog lovers also; it's also a dog park! All of the dogs we've met so far are very well behaved They have sand volleyball courts too for those who prefer a more active outing. Don't be dissuaded by the bathrooms being in a portable building, they have been fully finished inside and are super nice. Better than most bathrooms in a lot of sports bars. Went to see Astros game with friends on a Tuesday night Parking: There was plenty of parking. I loved that about this establishment. No need to circle around etc. Drinks: Price wise they're pretty standard. I'm not sure how the happy hours are honestly. Our friends got margaritas and they said they were pretty strong! We got a bottle of bubbles. I do wish they had more drink options as well in terms of beers etc Food: they had a taco food truck and it's amazing! Atmosphere: they have several TVs and they were turned up so it was easy to watch the game! I would say that I wish they had more seating/tables especially for situations like Astros playing the in the world series lol. A they have sand volleyball courts as well. You have to rent those tho. My first visit to the Powder Keg last week courtesy of a work event! Great location, ample no hassle parking is a plus. The vibe was chill and laid back in the Spring Branch area near City Centre. I really enjoyed this place and feel like it will only get better. They have around 4 beers on tap, plus a wine and cocktail list. I had a drink with gin, Prosecco, and strawberry. It was light and refreshing, and I normally do not like gin. There are machines with frozen margs and frosé--I tried both and thought they were good. They also had a couple fishbowl/shareable drinks on the menu too, which sound like they're worth investigating. There's 16 or so TVs with major channels plus the SEC network. Lots of picnic table seating. Food trucks supposed to start mid-October, but you can order food to be delivered. (I highly recommend getting Grimaldi's if you want good pizza.) So if there is one thing I love about this spot is the food truck that's parked outside for taco TUESDAYS!!! Andaluz* (spell check). The hibiscus tacos are AMAZING and the strawberries Fresca with coconut milk. YUM!!! Usually powder keg has volleyball nets up for people to play nit sure if they're leagues or free play but it's poppin during the evening time! This might sound a little odd, but the Powder Keg is one my favorite winter bars! All of the times I have come have been during colder weather, and I loved the vibes of people and families out playing volleyball in their sweaters while some of us set aside under blankets with a cold beer and heat lamp by our sides. It's definitely a strange way to open a review, but I'd recommend this experience to anyone once the weather cools down. There are plenty of beer options-- no matter the season. And recently, there has been options for food- like tacos and other food truck related items. Dogs are welcome, in fact, encouraged here. There's a designated (and quite large) dog park on the entire side lining the volleyball courts. By the way, there's 4 of those! And are first come, first serve. Pardon the pun. The location is actually incredible too-- a quiet spot just off of Brittmoore and easy to miss if you aren't looking for it, even though it's quite large and the volleyball courts should be a great giveaway. We finally got a place in Spring Branch that can compete with bars inside the loop! I really love this place and it's our new go-to spot for gathering with friends (and sometimes the dog). The ambience is casual and fun for a nice day outside - plus fans, heat lamps, and a bit of cover if it's not. Powder Keg really has everything: cornhole, ping pong tables, tvs, a dog park, and full-size volleyball courts. Other perks: There is plenty of parking. They also have a taco truck on site too, with authentic and delicious options. I wish I could give this place 5 stars, but... Cons: Drink prices are high, especially for a neighborhood bar. For some reason they dont have the bathrooms labeled. You just have to guess or ask around. It would cost around $10 to get signs, so I'm not sure why they don't have any. And the worst thing: So many kids! This is a family-friendly place, and there are just way too many kids here. Last weekend there 10+ kids playing in the sand in the middle of a volleyball court..no idea where the parents were. When we finally did get another court I felt anxious having my dog on the sidelines- an unattended kid kept trying to pet him. Then some other (again, unattended) kids took our extra volleyball and ran across our court while we played. I hated being on constant alert that a kid wont get hurt. I wish I had known about this place sooner! My boyfriend and I have been looking for places around Houston that have a volleyball court where we didn't have to provide the net like at Memorial Park. We found this gem from this couple we met at the park. They have bean bag toss, a couple of table tennis tables, & 4 regulation sized sand volleyball courts. It's open play unless they have reservations. When we went last night (Friday), 3 courts were open. They also have a shower for you to wash your feet after you play. I really liked this place. Such a creative and fun concept. The drinks and food trucks are pricey but worth it based on the environment. So many things to do while getting fresh air and sunshine. The female staff member also reprimanded others who approached without PPE although she consistently wore her mask under her nose. Great addition to the Spring Branch area! It is 100% outdoors with table seating and a huge parking lot. This place has some cocktails and wine, but their focus is more on beers. The taco truck they have is quick, reasonable , and delicious. I had a torta that was big enough to share with two people, and their street tacos are on point. My only complaint is I did not see a dog area for dogs to relieve themselves since it was night time, so please add some signage for the clueless. read more
