I have to say i'm disappointed (as usual for auto repair shops). I do a lot of my own repairs and just didn't have time for this one. Bottom line; they changed two solenoids in the transmission and did a transmission service (change fluid and filter) at the same time. They seem to have done good work and the problem was fixed. The car was ready sooner than quoted. Now here's the problem. The transmission service was charged 1.48 hrs labor. OK normally i'm fine with that. They also charged 1 hr labor for changing the solenoids. Normally I'm fine with that too. The problem is that the solenoids only take 5 minutes IF you are already doing the transmission service! Yes the transmission pan is already removed for the transmission service and the solenoids are right there next to the transmission filter! Basically they DOUBLE CHARGED ON LABOR! Technically those labor charges are probably what the service book specified as labor for each job BUT, if it was my shop, or an honest shop, the mechanic would say something like "hey we already have the transmission pan off and thats 90% of the work so I'm only gonna charge you for 1/4 of the normal labor for the solenoid part of the job." Just saying! And if they are deceptive about one thing . . . well can you really trust anything they say? Honestly it makes me question everything they did just because I know they were not being totally up front about everything because they think people don't know any better. Sorry guys I know. I asked them "hey isn't that a little questionable to charge for the same labor twice?" The owner comes out and starts saying like, " well we don't ever want to rip off anyone but we have to pay the rent here and taxes and workers comp etc etc etc." Ok so what? Who doesn't? So do I and so does any citizen or business or other auto shop. That doesn't make it OK to be dishonest and I feel like its just a lame excuse. Seriously what business gets free rent? And how would you feel if the landlord charged you TWICE for the same rent? Other gripes: $8 per quart of trany fluid? Really? Funny because its only $5 at O'Reilly. I would recommend looking for another place with honest mechanics and owner but the truth is Poway Transmission may be the lesser of many evils. Oh and one more thing, just to be fair, they did give us a $50 discount for a coupon so that was nice. read more

I went to Poway Transmission when I needed some work done on my car. I went to them because I had found a $50 off coupon online and had read the reviews raving about this place.I told them I had this coupon when I agreed to the service and let them know it was one of the reasons I chose to try them. When it came time to pay for my transmission rebuild, I gave them my coupon that I printed from their site, and was told that I couldn't use the coupon on a rebuild, even though it didn't state ANYWHERE on the coupon that there were any exclusions. When I brought this up to the guy at the desk, he just said it wasn't valid and told me what my total was. I needed my car back, so I paid. However, I have told EVERYONE I know to not go to this shop. I was very unhappy with their attitude toward me. Would they really have gone broke by honoring the coupon. AND even after I made a stink to them and said they should change the wording on their coupon, they still don't have any exclusions listed, at least not the last time I checked. read more

I installed a brand new, from the factory, transmission into my FJ60. It was locked in a gear (had no neutral). The dealer said they would warranty the trans but would have to pay them the labor to swap it. I had run out of time to wrench on it myself to needed to take it somewhere to get resolved. I figured I'd rather give my business to a local shop than a big dealer since even if the smaller shop had to really tear into it they were looking at charging less than the dealer wanted to just swap it. Poway Transmission did their free inspection, worked some magic, go it unstuck from that gear, without removing the transmission, and charged me NOTHING!!! Outstanding, honest shop. Staff have always been honest about the repairs and with their help we've been able to keep our car on the road for the past 20 years. They were great about referring us elsewhere when the Check Engine light came on and the code was emission system. Their referral to Poway Muffler was a welcome relief (we didn't have to try to find a reputable place on our own). Both shops did great work and we are extremely appreciative of their honesty. The cost of the repairs exceeds the value of the car at this point, and they told us that up-front, rather than performing work that would just be a "bandaid" solution. I needed a transmissions shop to check my Lexus after a transmission code went off on a diagnostic test at another shop. I called Poway Transmissions, who told me they would diagnose it at no charge, and give me a ride home while they were doing it! 2-3 hours later I got the news - long story short, not work that needed to be done now but would eventually get worse and need to be done, I opted not to do it now because it didn't effect my driving, and because the car is 21 years old, I might sell it. But WOW NO PRESSURE! And everyone was so great, I even got a ride back to get my car. I'd do business with them next time. read more

Steve took great care of my wife's car when we thought it was a transmission problem. When it turned out to be an engine misfire they asked if I wanted a good referral or if we already had a mechanic. They never charged us a dime! We took the referral and they did an awesome job with the repairs. Poway Transmissions does business the right way. No upselling, no pressure. Recently I find there is an overheating issue at the transmission of my 2008 Lexus G470, I drove my car to Poway Transmission for inspection. Eldon later found that the solenoid checks at 5.3 OHM'S shows that it is with in specs. Tech found code P2759 TCC pressure control solenoid and the after market TCC switch may be causing the problem. Eldon explains to me in details and then pick up my car without paying a penny. I do appreciate Eldon's honesty and expertise to handle my case. Transmission repair for 2000, rebuilt 2800 lucky for me it was a repair. Be aware 50 dollar coupon advertised only good for new fluid, and gasket service which you need to convince management should be included in the repairs. They also offer military discount for less repairs. My repairs at 2000 dollars, quote "was the best they can do." Beware veterans, they do not offer military discounts for you, I suggest take it else where, that provides better service. This should be you last resort. read more

Rare to see a Transmission place with 5 stars, but Steve deserves it. They take on issues everyone else would run from and do a fantastic job. I have a Dodge Shelby with a unique transmission and they tracked down parts nobody else would ever find.
