veggie stir fry with chicken, crispy garlic tofu bites

My favorite place in Toronto!!! You have to try the crispy garlic tofu bites. They are have crispy flavorful crust with the most delicious dipping sauces. Everytime I'm in town I get them twice (my guilty pleasure). The menu seems outrageously large but I've everything I've tried I liked!

Pad Thai with tofu

Local no frills patio with cheap food and drinks. Have tried different dishes here, really like their cheese quesadilla that comes with a side of chips, salsa and sour cream, as well as the fried tofu and spring rolls. Would skip the veg wrap. Always a good time!

We had dinner here tonight. They have a very interesting menu with a wide variety of foods from different cultures. It has a wide variety of beers and alcohol. Probably a better place to drop in for drinks than for a meal. My daughter tried the hamburger, it was decent sized but too well done (and a little dry) for my taste. She's only 6, so maybe they cooked it like that for her benefit? I can't recommend it though, even for a kid, she wasn't that big of a fan. The fries that came with it were good. My son had the Chicken fried rice and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fairly basic as fried rice goes, but eh chicken was moist. They went a bit overboard on the black pepper. Several of the dishes came out of the kitchen with a heavy grind of pepper across the entire dish. We also had the udon noodles with stir fried veggies and I found it to be good. Veggies were crisp and the noodles well cooked. The Phad Thai has a kick, not bad if you like a little your food a little spicy, but not the best option for most kids. It was really hard to taste anything over the spice, so hard to give real feedback on this dish. I had the fish and chips, opting for the sweet potato fries. This one was very good, fish was nice and moist with a good crunch to the batter. The sweet potato fries also had a very nice crunch to them. Overall a decent meal, but nothing I would have on my must visit list.

Pour Boy is located on Manning near the north west corner of Bloor and Manning in Koreatown. This is a nice place with mostly indoor seating and a few tables outside as well. The menu is made up with a mix of standard pub favorites and a side of Asian things. For instance besides our drinks we also ordered poutine and shrimp chips. The shrimp chips didn't seem freshly fried (hot and oily) and the poutine while decent didn't really have much cheese it seemed. Originally we sat indoors as the patio was full in the corner where the bench was like a church pew but eventually we were able to move outside because a table opened up. The service seemed friendly and the drinks were brought out pretty fast but the food wasn't overly impressive for what we had ordered.

Red wine Sangria pitcher - $18

Went for some Saturday afternoon Sangria. Location is right off Bloor and pretty easy to find. The establishment is pretty small, but there were a few people there enjoying some food and drinks when we went. Service was pretty good too and they have a nice outdoor seating area. The sangria was mediocre. Tasted pretty watered down from the beginning and it just got worse as we approached the bottom of the pitcher/the ice started melting. On the cheaper side of what you'd typically expect to get in Toronto though.

Pad Thai--too strong on the ketchup

NOT GOOD! Now, let me start by saying that I already had low expectations coming here. I'm a fan of bars with cheap drinks and good appetizers, so Pour Boy seemed like a good idea for some patio drinks. The service is non-existent. We had to seat ourself and get our own menu. We also had to flag the waiters to get a glass of water. The food was mediocre. The Pad Thai (that everyone seems to rave about) is really strong on the ketchup. The nachos were good, until we found a piece of Saran Wrap mixed in with the melted cheese--not good. The drinks were watered down. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria, which I didn't expect to be strong anyways (for the cheap price), but after finishing a pitcher I didn't even have a slight buzz. The verdict? Too much hype with practically nothing to back it up. Disappointed.

Was downtown with some friends last night and found Clinton's was closed because the LCBO suspended them for overcapacity. In search for another hangout spot we stumbled upon Pour Boy. It was packed! Two stories, and we managed to grab a table meant for 2 for the 3 of us. The beer list is pretty decent. $4.50 a pint. Teas and coffees were decently priced (I was the DD so no drinking for me... Good thing too because certainly enough as I approached the Gardiner Expressway Ramp en route back home R.I.D.E. was in full effect). Their cappuccino was pretty dang good. I expected a watered down, tasteless cappuccino but was pleasantly surprised! Their green tea was a bit weak. The service here was terrible, maybe because they just weren't prepared to have an onslaught of Clinton's-converts show up and flood their bar. The music and vibe was good. Old school jazz and soul music... Long lived James Brown! Another friend ended up joining and we wanted to move to a bigger table behind us where the folks were wrapping up only to be told by the hostess that the table is taken. We then had to go downstairs and find ourselves a table, but not before we were told "you gotta pay up your tab first." I then asked if she couldn't just bring the bill downstairs and she said "no we can't!". They are so badly coordinated. We placed an order for a decaf, and then changed our minds and ordered another pint, but sure enough she brought both. After she took our order another waitress asked us what we wanted and we told her we'd already ordered and she said "just tell me again because she may have forgotten." When my cappuccino came they brought it to the table behind us and then wandered around wondering who ordered it. What a zoo! The only food item we ordered was the fried tofu. Fried tofu? Really? Fried tofu at a pub? That was a first! It was served with a sweet-chili dip. It was pretty tasty but way too oily.

Nice little spot for some brews and cheap grub. Patio gets packed in the summer and as a former smoker, can get REALLY SMOKEY.

Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. I saw a lovely lunch special sidewalk sign and thought it was for them, but it was actually for the restaurant next door! However, I was already committed, and I always loved pubbing. Opened in early 2011, it was named after the historical role of town criers who served as the primary news source in medieval times. With the general theme of Belgian and German styles, its owners believed that European beers and news were linked. Would I be crying in my beer at this pub for entering the incorrect eatery in this town!? Innis & Gunn Mangoes On The Run Fruited IPA Beer 5.0% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.00CAD): Dark strawberry color, fruity mango tropical aroma, low body, fruity hoppy mango sweet flavor, smooth finish, and slight bitter fruity mango tropical aftertaste. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I was in the area all day for the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, so I simply walked. Inside was very ornate of Belgian and German styles, while outside was casual and simple. Minimal natural lighting entered inside through the few windows and door opening and of course plenty outside while dim electric ceiling and table lights filled in both areas. OVERALL Town Crier Pub had me laughing, talking, and people watching for a relaxing afternoon and would gladly return. The number of beers available both on tap and in bottles was insane and I loved it! The food menu was expansive. The food was fine but nothing special, and the prices were relatively comparable. But, it was the service and staff that literally reeled me in for a good time. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $50.00CAD BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...
