White wine sangria
Sharon Y.

It was pretty busy for a Monday night, and service was very slow (though the servers nice). I think they only had two servers for two floors plus a patio. The food and drinks are quite reasonably priced. They have a somewhat eclectic menu with food from different cultures. I tried the Korean bulgogi beef with glass noodles and veggies. The "glass noodles" were not actually glass noodles at all. They were Banh Hoi, or Vietnamese rice noodles woven into sheets. Despite the discrepancy from what was listed on the menu, the dish still tasted good. We also shared a pitcher of white sangria and nachos, both of which were great. I felt they could have given us a *few* more tortilla chips since it was only a single layer on the plate, but regardless it was still tasty and they were not shy with the cheese. They played covers of popular music all night which we found kind of amusing. Who were these mystery singers??? Why would somebody make a techno cover of Replay by Iyaz? Anyway, the vibe was pretty good and the prices were very affordable. Would come back.

Pad Thai with tofu

Local no frills patio with cheap food and drinks. Have tried different dishes here, really like their cheese quesadilla that comes with a side of chips, salsa and sour cream, as well as the fried tofu and spring rolls. Would skip the veg wrap. Always a good time!

We had dinner here tonight. They have a very interesting menu with a wide variety of foods from different cultures. It has a wide variety of beers and alcohol. Probably a better place to drop in for drinks than for a meal. My daughter tried the hamburger, it was decent sized but too well done (and a little dry) for my taste. She's only 6, so maybe they cooked it like that for her benefit? I can't recommend it though, even for a kid, she wasn't that big of a fan. The fries that came with it were good. My son had the Chicken fried rice and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fairly basic as fried rice goes, but eh chicken was moist. They went a bit overboard on the black pepper. Several of the dishes came out of the kitchen with a heavy grind of pepper across the entire dish. We also had the udon noodles with stir fried veggies and I found it to be good. Veggies were crisp and the noodles well cooked. The Phad Thai has a kick, not bad if you like a little your food a little spicy, but not the best option for most kids. It was really hard to taste anything over the spice, so hard to give real feedback on this dish. I had the fish and chips, opting for the sweet potato fries. This one was very good, fish was nice and moist with a good crunch to the batter. The sweet potato fries also had a very nice crunch to them. Overall a decent meal, but nothing I would have on my must visit list.

Pour Boy is located on Manning near the north west corner of Bloor and Manning in Koreatown. This is a nice place with mostly indoor seating and a few tables outside as well. The menu is made up with a mix of standard pub favorites and a side of Asian things. For instance besides our drinks we also ordered poutine and shrimp chips. The shrimp chips didn't seem freshly fried (hot and oily) and the poutine while decent didn't really have much cheese it seemed. Originally we sat indoors as the patio was full in the corner where the bench was like a church pew but eventually we were able to move outside because a table opened up. The service seemed friendly and the drinks were brought out pretty fast but the food wasn't overly impressive for what we had ordered.

Red wine Sangria pitcher - $18

Went for some Saturday afternoon Sangria. Location is right off Bloor and pretty easy to find. The establishment is pretty small, but there were a few people there enjoying some food and drinks when we went. Service was pretty good too and they have a nice outdoor seating area. The sangria was mediocre. Tasted pretty watered down from the beginning and it just got worse as we approached the bottom of the pitcher/the ice started melting. On the cheaper side of what you'd typically expect to get in Toronto though.

Pad Thai--too strong on the ketchup

NOT GOOD! Now, let me start by saying that I already had low expectations coming here. I'm a fan of bars with cheap drinks and good appetizers, so Pour Boy seemed like a good idea for some patio drinks. The service is non-existent. We had to seat ourself and get our own menu. We also had to flag the waiters to get a glass of water. The food was mediocre. The Pad Thai (that everyone seems to rave about) is really strong on the ketchup. The nachos were good, until we found a piece of Saran Wrap mixed in with the melted cheese--not good. The drinks were watered down. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria, which I didn't expect to be strong anyways (for the cheap price), but after finishing a pitcher I didn't even have a slight buzz. The verdict? Too much hype with practically nothing to back it up. Disappointed.

Was downtown with some friends last night and found Clinton's was closed because the LCBO suspended them for overcapacity. In search for another hangout spot we stumbled upon Pour Boy. It was packed! Two stories, and we managed to grab a table meant for 2 for the 3 of us. The beer list is pretty decent. $4.50 a pint. Teas and coffees were decently priced (I was the DD so no drinking for me... Good thing too because certainly enough as I approached the Gardiner Expressway Ramp en route back home R.I.D.E. was in full effect). Their cappuccino was pretty dang good. I expected a watered down, tasteless cappuccino but was pleasantly surprised! Their green tea was a bit weak. The service here was terrible, maybe because they just weren't prepared to have an onslaught of Clinton's-converts show up and flood their bar. The music and vibe was good. Old school jazz and soul music... Long lived James Brown! Another friend ended up joining and we wanted to move to a bigger table behind us where the folks were wrapping up only to be told by the hostess that the table is taken. We then had to go downstairs and find ourselves a table, but not before we were told "you gotta pay up your tab first." I then asked if she couldn't just bring the bill downstairs and she said "no we can't!". They are so badly coordinated. We placed an order for a decaf, and then changed our minds and ordered another pint, but sure enough she brought both. After she took our order another waitress asked us what we wanted and we told her we'd already ordered and she said "just tell me again because she may have forgotten." When my cappuccino came they brought it to the table behind us and then wandered around wondering who ordered it. What a zoo! The only food item we ordered was the fried tofu. Fried tofu? Really? Fried tofu at a pub? That was a first! It was served with a sweet-chili dip. It was pretty tasty but way too oily.

We experienced a customer yelling hate crimes and the server didn't ask them to leave but agreed with the customer. It was very concerning.

Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Hard to miss though as the exterior is made up a punk rock style sculpture of rusted bikes & other assorted ephemera. The interior is similar, visually. Great sound system & chill vibes pervade throughout. Weirdly the stage is right in the entrance of the club, on your left, with a long bar along the right side, heading back. Great, crowd, great location in cool area with lots of restaurants & plenty of parking - both on the street up to 2 hours & extended parking for a flat-rate of CA$20 (~$14 USD) from 6:00pm until the next morning, just 2 blacks away.

Are the beer cans running out? It's possible. But, it's a dive in the way of the old dives. And the acoustics for bands are... not great. But they are a sign of what once was. Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. This was first on our list, located in the Scotiabank Tower on Adelaide. We got a nice corner table, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, not too loud but not library-like either. The music, mostly UK fare like their cuisine, played an acceptable volume that my friends and I didn't have to raise our voices. We were seated very promptly, and our server took care to attend to my friend's allergy. She even asked to change my friend's cutlery when another server brought the wrong salad. My appetizer was a hot-smoked salmon pâté, which was ok by itself, but eaten with the pickles gave it that taste I wouldn't forget. I chose for my main the Petit Roast Dinner; the cut was excellent, full of flavour and juicy to boot. The gravy for said cut just brought the roast to another level. The sides were delicious as well, especially the crispiness of the potatoes. A clean plate was the end result! Finally to finish the meal, I chose the chocolate banoffee cheesecake - I never pass on any cheesecake when it's offered. And it didn't disappoint! The banana brûlée was an interesting touch, while having toffee sauce drizzled on the cheesecake was a first (and not definitely last) for me! All in all, it was a nice introduction to The Rabbit Hole, and I can't wait to go down there again!
