On the summer days, like today, they put boxes and racks of stock outside the front of the shop; making it feel like a garage sale. I challenge anyone to walk past on a day like today and not be forced to stop and have a look at the piles of stuff. It's a large charity shop as far as they go, with a huge variety of bits & pieces, like cameras and electronic goods to clothes, furniture and books. I already found a great old cannon camera I'm thinking about going back for tomorrow. The staff I met were all very young and will help you look for things that you can't find on the shop floor. They will also go and check the mountains of donations in the back room for you as well.

The shop has the most colourful display window I have ever seen and a mountain of cuddly toys at the front of the shop ensures that mothers will be dragged in by their children. Most charity shops have racks of clothes to browse but this charity shop makes the whole process so much easier. The shop is divided into colours -an orange rack, a green rack, a yellow rack etc. Shirts, trousers, skirts and dresses of the same colour are held together which is extremely useful, especially if looking for a particular colour for fancy dress or for a top to match your new shoes. I definitely recommend this brilliant rainbow shop!

The price is fantastic and I truely hope that the supermarkets don't squash this shining beacon of what is so great about buying local produce. The front of the shop is red lettering and white background and is listed as 'Fruit market' above the exite and 'EAST STREET fresh fruit and veg' above the entrance - please take note, we can't be doing with people ruining thier perfect system!

Its not a middle class farmers market, its a proper old fashioned market, with fresh and delicious smelling and tasting fruit at bargain prices. It also has a gorgeous array of plants for sale out front. I keep being tempted by them but am usually on my bike when I go to the market. In a world where local supermarkets sell overpriced bland fruit and veg grown in far flung corners of the world it is encouraging to see such a fantastic market still surviving despite the large Asda down the road. Its got character, cheap prices and delicious produce. Well worth turning your nose up at the inferior supermarket produce and taking the extra stroll up East Street to get some tasty treats. Craving some fresh strawberries now!!

The specials when I visited was a tasty butternut squash salad, which I would highly recommend, they also do freshly made soups. The food tasted very organic and very whole - I couldn't detect a single added sugar or synthetic flavouring, what you get here is real, honest, good food and reasonable prices. The staff wear creams aprons and there's a good selection of things to buy, although you couldn't do your weeks shopping there. Unfortunately there isn't a great deal of seating, just some bar stools inside, so more of a quick lunch or snack stop although there were tables and chairs on the shop front which I imagine get snapped up pretty quick in the warmer weather!

Indeed, the bread selection here is incredible, and displayed beautifully in the window, next to shelves full of organic yummy things, and a section of alternative, wheat- and gluten-free foods. Delve further inside and you reach the deli cafe, which is small, but great for coffee and cake or for a small sandwichy lunch. With a lovely local farm shop feel, this place is a pleasant alternative to bigger wholefoods shops, and you're guaranteed friendly service. I wouldn't come here if you're looking for somewhere to linger over a coffee with a friend, as the cafe bit is small.

**June 2020: Late Morning Visit**…read more Honestly, one of the nicest thrift shops I've ever visited period! Their displays and setup really make it look like a high end boutique shop and their dressing room looks like it came out of a magazine. It's ultra girly and has a nice sofa chair inside! In addition to the very chic and classy atmosphere all the apparel inside was also of excellent quality. Prices were on the mid-high range for thrift (it's a little closer to consignment prices), but the condition and quality of everything is justified. On top of that proceeds all benefit children in the UK and globally to get access to medicine, food, and education. I ended up getting a Ted Baker t-shirt and a lovely hot pink Coast Couture dress with beautiful embroidery for £33. It's a wonderful shop and one I would gladly return to on my next Clifton Village trip!

All the usual charity shop numbers can be found here in their droves. Ladies wear, gents' jackets and hats, old books, crockery, games and so much more. What I love is the random splattering of stuff about the place. I was perusing the selection of books the other day when I chanced upon a juggling kit and a trilby all in the same pile. Now for those that know me well I was delighted! A real gem of a shop.

Never been one to peruse the clean cut aisles of W H Smith or Ottakers for instance, or to click through pages of Amazon - oh no, I prefer the real mc coy. Book shops like this one are a dying race and it's a shame. These books are all pre-loved and you can really feel it; the notes in the margins, the underlining of key points or simply the messages in the inside cover. Avon Books is an old fashioned affair complete with well spoken gent behind the till and a musty smell of ciggies. The stock is mostly on the subjects of war, espionage, natural history and philosophy but you can root out a few gems too. Recently I found the entire Gray's Anatomy for just a quid! A proper old bookshop, run by a proper bookish booklover, it's lovely for browsing, and is well organised if you're looking for something specific. I love buying books this way, rather than brand new from shiny big high street bookshops, and Avon Books does a good job of providing a classic library atmosphere to satisfy the old-fashioned among us. True to its local name, it stocks a good section of books about Bristol's history, which I'm sure get picked up by tourists on their way back from the Suspension Bridge. The classics section is large, so students of English Literature, take note: this is a good place to come if you need to stock up on books from your reading list.

This is true one on one customer service, as the kind gentleman behind the till, Mr Graves of the name, will find you, without fail, a piece that you'll fall in love with. Their secret power is the fact they cater to all - they have really affordable items, from £8, to things that most of us couldn't afford in a long time, as their catalogue extends to items near £8000. Nevertheless, the quality of service to both the £8 customers and the £8K customers is just as good. Even if you're not after a purchase, it's worth a look to be overwhelmed by the beauty of the shop itself, and then the items they keep. With adverts placed in Vogue, Tatler, and Harper & Collins, they have some serious clients and are decidedly Cliftonian, but these are all good things in my opinion. Go search for those gems!
