It's been a couple of years since I've found my way inside this place! I don't frequent the area so I knew I had to walk over after attending a Yelp event across the street. I didn't recall that there was a bar in the rear and made sure to snap a shot of their weekly board. I'd return to check out some of their events or even just to grab a bottle of wine. I selected a Riesling that did not disappoint and a Cabernet Sauvignon by Jam. I forgot to snap a pick of the Riesling but I'll return to grab it again! I'd say it's a place you could easily overlook but if you did stumble in here, you might find a brew or want to hang out at the bar for a bit. There's more to this place that I'd like to see and look forward to more reasons to visit. read more

I recently came to Potent Potables while they had a music trivia bingo night. We met up with some friends that were waiting at a table for us. It was pretty packed, but there were multiple tables laid out. Ours was a table for four, but we were able to squeeze into two additional friends that met up later. The layout of this place is casual and cozy as there are aisles and shelves made of fine wood stocked with varieties of local and fine wines as well as craft beers and other types of drinks for purchase to go. During music bingo the place was jumping and the mash up of classic hits definitely made it so much fun. Many people were enjoying it singing along and just having a great time. For my drink, I chose their creature comfort IPA served in nice beer glass. Their IPA is pretty smooth and also balanced so it's not too bitter. They don't serve food there, but there was a food truck outside making it convenient to go right out and order food. Overall had a great time and I would definitely come back for the music bingo night again. read more

This craft bottle shop in the heart of Jamestown is one of my regular spots. Visiting a couple of times a week with my run club. The service is always friendly, they've always got a great selection of both NC local beers and beers from all over the country. They offer both can and bottle options as well as a selection of 10 rotating tap handles. They also carry a large selection of wine and mead. The space is very family friendly, welcoming children to come with their parents. It's a very relaxed and laid back space, often having food trucks on the weekends. and even having a great selection of board games for kids and adults alike to play. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon with just a few patrons- football was playing and drinks were flowing, so whats not to love?! I haven't been here in a while, but I remember how much I love the small hometown atmosphere and feel of the place. I have been visiting Potent Potablrs since they opened almost 10 years ago. I visited for the first time when they first opened because they offered a Groupon. My husband and I fell in love with this little shop, the owner, and the town. We loved it so much we even moved to Jamestown! I love this little convenient location that I can walk to you to grab a great beer or participate in some of the great events hosted there. After reading a few rough reviews of this place, that was not about their products or service, I wanted to give this business some love and my money. But I must say, as much as I wanted to support this business, this business made it hard to support. You can't get just a glass of wine, you need to buy a full bottle and pay a $5.00 corking fee. Also, the very limited wine available that was chilled was disappointing. So we ended up buying off the shelf a red. We sat inside, but the music was too loud. We asked the person behind the counter if they could lower the volume. We were ignored. We decided to sit outside in the cold to finish our drinks. 2 stars for being on the side of democracy. 0 stars for Atmosphere, service, price or variety. read more

I just can't say enough about retailers like Potent Potables that are staying open in some capacity, braving the current COVID-19 challenges, and taking responsible steps to keep the economy and the dream alive. There's a hand sanitizer dispenser as soon as you walk in the door with instructions to use when entering and exiting. Somehow, and to my surprise, it wasn't slammed after work on Friday with folks looking to add a little cheer to their upcoming quarantined weekend. The selection is remarkable. Catawba Brewery's Peanut Butter Jelly Time is one of my all time favorite seasonal beers and generally difficult to find. Potent Potables had plenty. I also found a few other delicious gems including Trappiste Rochefort 8 and 10 in single bottles. Mine now! Call ahead as I think they have temporarily altered their hours since they are currently retail only (no serving/drinking in the store). But hey, at least that's something. Don't underestimate the importance of supporting local businesses during this incredibly difficult time. Potent Potables is one of those gems we need to stick around. read more

When this place first opened we frequented quite a bit, but unfortunately it's not as enjoyable as it once was. On our last visit two things left us a bit disenchanted: 1-they now charge $1 to taste a beer. We never asked for a 2 ounce pour, just a small taste, and yet $1 was placed on our bill. We frequent MANY drinking establishments and breweries and have never been charged for a small taste. 2-the automatic wine dispenser spurted the wine at me, causing most of it to go onto the floor. When I asked the owner for a towel so I could clean up the mess, he was clearly irritated and cleaned it up himself. I thought for sure he would top up my glass, as I only had one swallow of wine in the glass. He did not. We will give it another try, but the customer service has definitely gone waaaay down. read more

I would have normally given this place 3 stars probably. I have been here many many times, and my biggest complaint before today had been (as many reviews have stated) that they do not give samples of their beer on tap. So it's an annoyance but not a deal breaker by any means. No cold glasses is another negative. What IS a deal breaker is the owner taking negative reviews from here and posting the reviews on his FaceBook page and IG and then going on to berate the reviewers and encouraging other patrons to do the same. Personally attacking someone online because you don't agree with them is not the way to get business. And the irony is that his main complaint seemed to be that someone would go online and rant... so uhh... yeah. Needless to say it's Brewer's Kettle for me now. read more

There's no place like it anywhere else. We always bring our out-of-town guests to experience it, and they always comment on how cool it is and how they wish they had a place like it where they live. There's so much to love: a wide variety of beer (ranging in style and price), fun events (the best trivia in town, on Monday nights), board games, a relaxed atmosphere, and great staff. I have tried so many new beers that I never would have experienced, thanks to PoPos. In addition to their rotating selection in the fridge, they have a rotating tap, often featuring local beers. They also have cider and wine, and there is often a food truck outside. Family-friendly and dog-friendly too. Jamestown wouldn't be the same without it! read more

Nice Chill spot!. The pumpkin flavor "Pumking" beer was great. The chocolate flavor was good too. Their seating was adequate for how busy it was and the live musician was a nice place to have a casual hangout. They also have a wall of board games to choose from. So drink beer, chat and play games. This place however does not serve food but different food trucks come by everyday to serve food. You can eat outside or bring it in and drink beer. Came by this little spot on a work trip. I almost wish I didn't because it had such a great selection that I couldn't leave NC without buying over 150$ worth of craft beer, but in the end I regret not buying more since I don't know when I'll be back in this area. The selection is excellent, and they have some of the rarest beer in the area and abroad. My friends in CA are definitely going to enjoy what I'm bringing back. This is a relaxing spot on the downtown Jamestown area stripe. I have been here for after work drinks. It is decent place that you can pick your bottle of wine to sit and relax or purchase for the enjoyment in the comfort of your living room. Variety, Variety, Variety. I love this place. It is a nice little hangout afterwork to grab some craft beer on tap or by the bottle. I love that they change things up often and that you have a chance to try different craft brews from all around North Carolina and other places. They have rotating drinks on tap and they also have live music some nights. Whether you're looking for mead, beer, or wine, Potent Potables has what you want. One of my favorites is called the "Sweet Baby Jesus". This beer has a chocolate peanut butter flavor that is out of this world. The "Zombie Killer" mead is also really good. They have a whole shelf of board games, and they also have a cocktail cabinet that plays retro video games. They are pretty busy on the weekends and sometimes they run out of certain brands if it's really busy. The heartbreak of going for your favorite beverage and finding it missing is usually short lived, because you can always find a new favorite by rolling the dice and trying one that catches your eye. The staff is awesome and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. read more

Fantastic selection of bottled beers, wines, etc. Tap lines are cleaned regularly and updated with the most current releases from both local and national breweries. All taps are quality. While there are snacks that are available for purchase, food trucks are regularly on site. With plenty of events hosted here... literally nightly.... there's never a day that passes without something special going on. Bottle prices are on par or better than other shops around, and the owners and employees know their product and are excited to talk to you about their offerings. It's a regular spot for my wife and I, and we often bring friends that fall in love with this place much like we have. NO SAMPLES!!! Seriously, what craft beer centric bar doesn't give samples? Especially when the draft menu usually has no range. 6-7 drafts and 4 types of mead? Did I mention no samples? It sucks cause this could be a great neighborhood bar. Terrific selection of beer in the store and they have rotating taps with some of the rarest brews in the area! One of only a couple places in the Triad that I know who offer the best winter beer (Highland Cold Mountain) on draft... as good as it is coming out of the bottle, it's even better out of a tap! The staff are very helpful and can recommend something for you if you can't make up your mind and they also have a nice seating area where you can enjoy your drink and play games they have with your friends. Our first time here. We were regulars here for years when it was Sadie Mays. I like what they've done to the inside. Great wine and beer selection. Tonight is half price wine- sweet! The food truck tonight is Home Slice. Just had our first pizza and it was really delicious. Now a second delicious half price glass of wine and sharing another delicious pizza. The bartender is really nice and helpful. No live music tonight but what is playing is very enjoyable, not too loud or obnoxious. One of my favorite places to go have a drink! They have a fabulous choice of wines by the bottle, also have a wine dispenser that you can choose to have a glass from. They have rotating drafts and are always featuring new brews! If you don't see something g that suits your fancy on draft they have a large cooler of bottled/canned beers as well! They have tons of games you can play with friends and often have live music. Recently they built a new patio and do food trucks on the regular! Only negatives are that they charge a high corkage fee even if you buy the bottle from them and parking! read more

A great place to spend time with friends, play a board game or two, and get something to eat from the food trucks. If you're into beer, they have an amazing selection. On the downside, if you're not a drinker, the non-alcoholic beverages are very expensive and they have no decent coffee. It seems like a no-brainer to have a decent coffee / espresso machine. Love this little gem in Jamestown! When you walk in there is a great selection of wine and beer set up like store. Some of the beverages are refrigerated along the far wall and the prices are great if you want to get 1 beer or an entire 6 pack. Then past the store front is plenty of seating and a bar! The taps are rotated frequently and always kept up to date on their Facebook page. Best part about this entire place is the wine dispensers. Fill a wine card with money and choose your wine, swipe the card and its like a soda fountain of wine goodness!! All their wine is pressaurized and chilled and the perfect temperature so each glass is as good as the first. Bartenders are super friendly and knowlesgable. They have food trucks and music on the weekend and plenty of board games to enjoy a night out with friends. read more
