I genuinely don't understand how this place has a 3.7 rating. The food was bland, lifeless, and tasted like it was thrown together with zero care. For an Italian restaurant, there was absolutely no flavor or authenticity just overpriced disappointment. Honestly, I've had better meals at home with half the effort. This was our second visit to Positano on a trip to the zoo. Both visits we had grandkids in tow and had a very pleasant experience. The food was better than expected in little Asheboro and a wonderful divergence from sports bar and BBQ fare. Service was very good. We will be back on next zoo trip. read more

Our first night in NC, we opted for Italian food- this was one of the favorites recommended by our B&B hostess. We had to wait a few minutes before being seated and the space is fabulous! Big dining room and an outdoor patio, with light strung about. We sat and started pouring over them menu- I went with lobster ravioli and John ordered a calzone. He opted for the small since we were just visiting the area and it was still huge! My lobster ravioli was the most lobster packed I have ever had! I was so happy! We had dinner here last night. I got my favorite dish the lobster ravioli and my husband got spaghetti bolognese. He'd never ordered it before but it was really good! For small town NC, this is a good place to come enjoy a nice Italian dinner with friends. There are a lot of classics, some with a twist... Classics are so for a reason, meaning that messing with what works can be a hit or a miss. It seems like they have some of both. The antipasto plate as an app is huge, heavy on olives, cheese, and drizzle. The bread, though, yummy! The appetizer arugula salad was nicely done. To explore something different, I went with the ravioli with smoked chicken... the flavor was fine (I was hungry and ate most of it), but I'm not sure I'd order again. The smoky just isn't a match for the pasta, I don't think. Nothing wrong with it, just a creative twist that didn't land for me. read more

Being from NJ probably skews the review. That said it was worth it to try out the restaurant after the zoo. The menu was diverse and offered a lot of options. The salad was delish and while they didn't have Feta, they addd fresh mozzarella and parm. The older server was incredible. Maybe my expectations were too high given the reviews, but my partner and I were a bit let down by Positano. We were in town for a vacation and came here for a nice dinner one evening. The staff were friendly and it was quite busy inside. We got seated outside and ordered - I got a glass of white zinfandel and lobster ravioli, my partner got lasagna and a seafood soup. Our server was nice but he had never heard of the wine I ordered or the soup, despite both being on the menu. Our drinks then took a while to come out. My wine was just OK, which is to be expected since it was $5. After a bit we had to move indoors because it started raining. The staff were very helpful getting us situated. Unfortunately our server came back and let us know the kitchen staff had never heard of the soup we ordered. This was a bit frustrating given it was quite literally on the menu. Our food came out a while later. My lobster ravioli was pretty good, albeit very salty and only came with 4 ravioli. My partner's lasagna came cold and he said that it did not taste good. Unfortunately our nice dinner ended up being a bit of a letdown. read more

What a find. Celebrating our 28th anniversary out-of-town, & luck out finding Positano. First: drinks. House Merlot was very nice - easy to drink. I'd buy a bottle of that. Martinis were delicious too. Friend house-made mozzarella was very good. So fresh!! Dinner entrees were made with fresh (not dried) pasta. Dessert cakes were yummy!!! Not consistent! I met a friend there for lunch 2 weeks ago. The food was excellent - eggplant Parmesan, bruschetta and a salad for me. She had the lasagna and a salad. Couldn't believe how amazing the food was and the server was awesome. Fast forward to 2/7. I stopped at 7:45 and ordered the veal Marsala and a small house salad. The salad was very fresh. The veal Marsala was served over spaghetti noodles. The sauce tasted like water - I thought maybe the noodles weren't strained enough. The dish had no flavor at all. After giving up on my waitress coming to check on my meal, I flagged someone else down and asked for them to send her over to me. My waitress did not come over, but another server came over to see how she could help. When I explained to her that the sauce was very watery and had no flavor, she said no problem they would fire the dish again. I told her I had eaten the veal Marsala there numerous times before, and it was always excellent. She replied that they had a new chef. When the new dish was brought out, it was the opposite. The noodles were so dry. It was like there was no sauce on it. Quite frankly it was inedible. I pondered the thought of taking it home with me and doctoring it up, but to me that defeats the purpose of dining out. I pointed out to them that it just was not good. Then I asked my original waitress when the regular cook would return. Imagine my surprise when she said he was there. They did not have a new chef. ‍ They did remove the veal Marsala from my check. On a positive note, the bread was tasty and the salad was fresh, but not the meal I had hoped for. I won't write them off, but I probably would not order the veal again. read more

We ate at Positano's and were very disappointed.I ordered chicken Piccata and it was Not the way that dish should be made.I got lumps of chicken breast instead of thin sliced breast.The sauce was very good, but the lumps of chicken were so thick they were dry and they were mixed all together with the spaghetti! Your cook needs so lessons on how to make piccata!! Another plate of meat balls and spaghetti was not even not! The meatballs were dry and tasted like they were what you get at a grocery store The next dish of Fra Diablo had 3 small shrimp, empty shells and was not very nice. We stopped in Asheboro on the way home to Statesville on June 14th but the restaurant where we usually eat wasn't serving dinner that week. We made a decision to try Positano which was nearby and were pleasantly surprised with a delicious meal. Dinner salads were very good, bread good, but my fresh eggplant entree with marinara sauce over penne pasta was delicious. It was a healthier entree because the eggplant wasn't fried. This is my favorite restaurant in the area. Had lobster ravioli first time and eggplant parmigiana the second and both dishes were delicious. The atmosphere and industrial decor was pleasing and the staff was very good, particularly Aaron who is a real asset to the restaurant. He apologized for any delays due to short staffing but was very attentive to our needs and made it an overall great experience both times we were there. One pet peeve for Positano to fix: Both visits, pasta arrived on the dish with way too much water still in it. It made the plate all watery and thinned the sauce on it and water seeped into my eggplant entree. Please take the time to drain the pasta longer before plating it and your guests will be grateful. The food was okay here, not actually traditional Italian dishes but they had a lot of options. They seem to rely on heavy salt and garlic for most of the flavor. The chicken marsala was cooked very well but unfortunately the salt overpowered the dish. There were also a lot of hidden charges that they didn't tell us about until we got the bill. read more

I kind of stumbled on this restaurant via Yelp following a visit to the North Carolina zoo. I have to say the food was quite good I give it a 4.5. I had the shrimp and scallops with gluten-free pasta and although it was a little heavy on the cherry tomatoes it was delicious . The person with me had the lobster ravioli and it was quite good as well. However as good as the food was, the service was about a 2.5 at best. The server was a ghost and only came to the table 3 times during the two hour sitting and we had to call for her three other times to ask for things we needed. My boyfriend and I went there tonight and super excited to just go on a date. We got there and the hostess was just not friendly or inviting. I am a hostess myself and she was not welcoming what so ever. There was a wait which is completely fine BUT the hostess never called us and we had to walk back in for her to just sit us. Our waiter was just awkward and did not cater to us what so ever another waitress had to fill up my water after he ignore my empty glass on the table for 10 min or more. My boyfriends food was good while I had the Fettuccine Alfredo its was just basically watery noodles that costed $14 . A few hours later me and his stomachs now hurt.
