Genovese Octopus

I enjoyed all the items I tried! Jack said the pasta was ok but I'm guessing if he picked the Ossobuco, this would be his favorite restaurant at Secrets.

4 cheese appetizer - avoid

Classic Italian dishes. Romantic atmosphere. Service was excellent. Most dishes were subpar. I'll start with the good. The main dish - The Seabass (Not on the menu, was the catch of the day) was good. Although this dish did have a fishy taste, it had a good texture, and super soft. The subpar included the... Burrata (Italian bread covered with cheese served with a salad). The bread for this dish was too hard. 4 cheese dish - all the cheeses were melted together. The cheese was too overwhelming. The main dish - Risotto, had a nice butter sauce, but the rice was really hard. Overall, this place was subpar, and should be at the bottom of the list if you're deciding which restaurant to hit up first at the resort.

Lamb Pappardelle; amazing dish!

Happy to share a spectacular 5 star experience at Portofino, Secrets Akumal. Our hostess was a sweetheart and sat us at a beautiful table near the piano. Our server was Pedro; he was polite, helpful, super friendly and really went above & beyond to assure that our meal was memorable and leisurely. Started off with some champagne and homemade bread with olive oil & balsamic. For appetizers we enjoyed secrets special salad, burrata and the melanzane with mascarpone. Loved them all especially the salad. Wish we tried more! Enjoyed a glass of the house Merlot with my Lamb Pappardelle; it was a fantastic dish! The pasta is made in house and you can really taste the freshness. Happy to share that they cooked it to a perfect al dente! The lamb & mushroom sauce was a perfect balance of richness with a rustic homemade taste. Definitely a winning dish; I would get it again in a heartbeat. Settled on both the panna cotta and the tiramisu for dessert. Both were fabulous; loved the smaller portions so you have room to taste more than one dessert! The entire experience at Portofino was top notch; they did an amazing job capturing the true essence of Italy through their classic & modern dishes, wine selection, overall service and the beautiful atmosphere. Thank you Pedro for your incredible service and thank you Portofino for a wonderful dining experience!

Limoncello

Ok, so I'm updating my review here. Raul, our server, totally made up for the bad experience we initially had. We came in wanting something light and everything he suggested was on point. The ossobuco was phenomenal, wine pairing Cabernet Sauvignon was spectacular, the limoncello was my most favorite! Completely enjoyed everything here!

A four star review with trepidation. Perhaps a three 1/2 star better. And only for one reason…read more Massimo's waters down there drinks, big time. Then they smile about it. My Spanish is conversational don't smile, just agree. Now for the rest of the review, Massimo's has an eclectic menu, and an exciting specials menu. The bread sticks they give you, well there adequate. But, this area is a humid as a witches broom. Soooooooo........... I ordered from the special of grilled Pulpo or filled octopus. It was outstanding, if Massimo's didn't give me a vodka and WATER, when I ordered just vodka chilled, I'd be raving about this place. Alas, I'm angry at getting ripped of. The food is outstanding, the service is good, the bartender should be lynched.

Another stop on our Puerto Aventuras eating "tour" of sorts. We had last been here years ago under…read moredifferent management circumstances. Now more "dressed up", the service attentive and let's just say a big improvement in atmosphere and otherwise. A substantial menu with homemade pasta the focal point. We opted to start with bruschetta which was among the best we have had. The crostini were just right, not burnt to crispy hardness. Sandra had a filet which was tender--in itself a major accomplishment in these parts. She liked the funghi (mushroom) sauce. I can't comment because sauce on steak just isn't my favorite anywhere. I had the octopus which was chargrilled, which I enjoyed. The surprise was the wine list: few options basically one of each type. That said, the Italian Chianti was outstanding and that made all the difference when the selection is limited. We could not have eaten dessert however they provided us a tiramisu for home which when we had it was amazing. Service was excellent and once again a dinner that exceeded our expectations. Never did try the homemade pastas which looked delightful so that is our excuse to go back once again. But the wine choice is already done.

If you love pizza and you're in Tulum, this is the spot. Full stop…read more Boccanera is wild in the best way. A laid back wood fired pizza spot with a super cool, relaxed ambience and the friendliest energy. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and honestly I've never had anything like it. It's insanely good. Pair it with their habanero sauce and jalapeños and it is literally fire. Perfectly cooked, bold flavor, unforgettable. We also ordered the Caprese with apples, almonds, and beets and wow. Such a fresh and different take on a salad. Every ingredient tasted so clean and vibrant. My tummy was genuinely happy after this meal, which says a lot. It's not far from where we're staying near Azulik, which made it even better. The vibe is effortless, chill, and welcoming. Bonus points for the two local cats, who are absolutely adorable and add so much charm to the place. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and the menu has so many choices that there is truly something for everyone. If pizza is your love language and you're anywhere near Tulum, Boccanera is a must visit.

Arrived here around 800p on a Friday night and apparently everyone had the same idea. It is a very…read moresmall restaurant with limited tables for larger parties (they had two small cafe style pushed together for a 7 top when we were there). We put our name on a list, but no phone number was given so really it's a wait for a table or come back type of situation. We ended up leaving and coming back 40 mins later and were sat quickly outside. The pizzas are OUTSTANDING! I think the reviews all say that and it's the truth. The crust is Neapolitan style thinner crust but the flavor is just spot on! The toppings and sauce are well balanced. The roasted chicken was a great addition to the vegetarian. If they made cheese sticks with a marinara sauce with that crust it would be a HUGE seller! The green salad was pretty standard and not much that was memorable or forgettable, just good and as expected. Unfortunately, the bruschetta was a huge let down -- we literally received halved cherry tomatoes on a piece of bread. They served it with olive oil to drizzle, but that did not even come close to what we expected. There are a few cats that roam the outside patio, but they don't bother you much. The staff was welcoming and we had good conversation with the server even for it being 20 mins before they closed.
