The patty was burnt on the outside and pink in the middle, she didn't even eat a quarter of the burger. I had the steak and cheese croissant and I was not a fan. The bread was fluffy and soft, but the cheese was all at the bottom of the sandwich and caked in, not spread evenly throughout at all. The fries were okay. Half of the onion rings were over cooked. Having lived in Chicago for several years before living in Tucson I can say I'm happy to have a Portillo's in town. This looks like a Portillo's and smells like a Portillo's and the menu is like a Portillo's but there's a few things that feel a little "off". The kegs are almost always kicked when I order a drink and it's a process to get a beer because there's never anyone old enough working the bar and they have to find someone to pour the drink. Do not offer me ketchup for my Chicago dog. Do not do that. I repeat, do not offer me ketchup for my Chicago dog. The folks assembling food are very good and seem to be efficient but please don't scream over the loudspeaker. The space is cavernous and it's just an echoing screeching noise that sounds like it's suppose to rhyme or something. The blonde woman that works nice seems particular fond of making screeching noises loudly over the speaker. The dining room folks are attentive and keep the place clean. Well done. Food is good but the last three visits have involved asking for a new a sandwich because they didn't read the slip. Overall, a taste of Chicago but not quite Chicago. read more

I know they're known for their sandwiches but I am obsessed with their burgers omg. They are just so hearty and filling. It is HUGE in there. The decor inside is Tucson inspired complete with a giant mural by the ordering counter. I would recommend going through the drive thru if you're in a hurry because the line gets long inside! This the second time I've been here. Both times I got the 2 hot dog combo. Yum. There are lots of choices, hot dogs, burger, fish, chicken, fries. The decor is an old time diner feel. The reason I downgraded was because of overall noise and the calling of the order numbers was so muffled I couldn't understand it. 1st time I came there were numbers displayed on monitors so that helped. I have heard a lot of good things about this place, so we decided to check it out. This is branch just opened recently. So the building is really nice the wall decors are amazing, it's like you stepped back in time. They have 50's themed collections on their wall and ceiling. The tables and chairs are in the same era style as well. It's a self service like every fast food style restaurant. I would suggest that you go early or in between lunch and dinner, there will be a line but it's shorter. We tried the Italian Beef Sandwich and we have it dipped into the gravy. You are given three choices on how you want your beef. We also tried the Chili dog, Chicago style hotdog, Crispy Chicken Sandwich and everything tasted good. They have crinkle cut fries and onion rings, we love the malts, both chocolate and strawberry malts are delicious! And we tried all three desserts as well and I will definitely recommend all. But the best one for me is their Chocolate Eclair Cake! It's a must! So far nothing that we tried has disappointed my family. This place is worth the trip and I highly recommend it. Tucson Portillo's is just as busy as Chicago. We got there before the line to order was near the doors. The servers were friendly and did a great job helping the customers quickly to make that line smaller. I ordered the 2-hotdog meal. You can see your order number on the screen, but I loved that they rhyme when they call your order. There was no place to sit inside and they were crammed like sardines so we ate outside. Ok so my first visit is going to make me a once a weeker. Yup my new word. This place is huge inside with lots of seating. The menu has so much to try. We had the Italian beef with hot peppers. Excellent sandwich. There are three variations of juice available. I had the dry and next time I will do the dunked. The menu has a huge variety salad, fish, chicken, vegan, even a bowl version for the keto peeps. There is a dessert service and beer and wine! Looks like 4 different drafts on tap. Will be back for sure to try more menu items and can't wait to bring family when the come to visit. Service was fairly quick. This place was somewhat of a madhouse but nonetheless we were able to order and receive our food rather quickly. Greeted with a smile when we first came in Kali was kind enough to give us the process of ordering and receiving food and even said she'd be by our table to make sure everything was great. Definitely some of the best Italian Beef sandwiches in all of Tucson! I didn't want the peppers but I added cheese which was a great choice and even though it was allot of food I ordered an extra bacon double cheeseburger to try it out. Romance at Portillo's?! Just got home from an awesome lunch-date with my Valentine at Portillo's for their soft-opening! This was my first time eating in a Portillo's but my Valentine was born in Chicago and she grew up loving their food. We ordered an Italian beef sandwich, a polish dog, cheese fries and onion rings... and, of course we got some chocolate cake too! According to my Chicago-girl, everything tasted exactly like it should - so she gives it 5 stars. For me, it was my first time tasting Portillo's food but I had pretty high expectations based on what I'd been hearing. The food was definitely served hot, fresh and fast which I'd expect for a soft-opening. The sandwich was very tasty and I enjoyed dipping it in the au jus. The polish dog was also delicious which I ordered with onions and mushrooms. The only thing I'll order differently next time will be adding spicy peppers to the sandwich (my wife wanted sweet peppers and we were sharing). Otherwise everything was really delicious! The inside of the restaurant is full of interesting things to look at, with a high ceiling and polished exposed ducting. I especially liked the Portillo's Tucson sign where you order that is a nod to the old Tucson Inn sign that was recently restored too! The sign was a nice touch, aligning this spot with some Tucson history. I really enjoyed my first trip to Portillo's and am excited to have it in my hometown! Brought my family of 5 to try this place . Didn't see anything spectacular about it. Very expensive , no prices on menu. Ate an all beef Chile cheese hotdog n it tasted like Wienerschnitzel. Burger flame broiled no big deal in flavor. I've had better. Our large fries were cold . I took them back n manager gave me fresh hot fries. Very nice. No children menu at all. The food is consistently good and cooked perfectly. All of the workers are so nice and efficient. We were sitting outside with our Chihuahua and a manager walked outside just to deliver a piece of bacon to him. It's the little things in customer service that keep us coming back for more. Portillos has long been a favorite since I grew up with it in Chicago, so I was super excited when I heard they were opening a Tucson location. I signed up online for their opening and waited. And waited. And waited. And now, finally, I got to go to their 'soft open.' Their cheese fries are exactly as I remembered, perfectly fried crinkle cut fries served with a gorgeous cheddar cheese sauce for dipping. I was sceptical, but I enjoyed the garden dog (especially once I added some cheese sauce. They accidentally gave me unsweet tea, but they corrected it quickly and offered to let me keep the extra drink. Other than that one hiccup, the service was quick, friendly, and efficient. Since it was a limited menu for the soft open, I wasn't able to get their famous chocolate cake or their chocolate cake shake, but I look forward to getting them on my next visit. read more

My first time to a Portillo's, the good things I've heard matched my experience. There was a bit of a line for lunch on a Saturday to be expected as they are brand, brand new. The line moved quickly. Love the decor with all the old signs and Tucson type things. The guy calling the orders was full of energy saying things like "number 530, you're good to go", and "459, it's time to dine"! Loved it!! The Chicago dog was fabulous, nice bite to it! The Italian beef sub was packed with meat and chili, the bread was just perfect, it was so filling and just right!! The crinkly fries are some of the best I've ever had! We also ordered the cake shake, which was thick and tasted just like their famed cake, we couldn't eat our chocolate cake until later because we were stuffed! Great experience!! read more

Chicago Street Food restaurant Portillo's is an excellent addition to our city, just opening up a week ago. Who doesn't like thin slices of seasoned roast beef dipped in au jus packed into a soft French roll? When I walked in, I was surprised at how big it was inside. The colors looked similar to an In-N-Out Burger, with many things hanging from the ceilings and on the wall. However, what caught my eye was an old vintage Coca-Cola machine that looked like an original. I tried one of their staples, an Italian beef sandwich with extra "Big Beef" and sweet peppers. The peppers were mild tasting, and the beef could have used more seasoning, but I enjoyed it just the same. The ordering system looked very efficient, and they have a convenient drive-thru. Next time I go, it'll be a Chicago-style hot dog! read more

Our new Tucson restaurant finally opened! We've eaten at Portillo's in other cities and are excited we got one here. We went late afternoon and the line wasn't terribly long, which we'd heard it could be. The decor was typical for this restaurant. The menu has a good variety--Italian beef, sausages, burgers, salads, chicken, fish, drinks, fries, onion rings, desserts, and shakes. I ordered the Big Italian Beef, dry, a side of gravy, and grilled onions. It took awhile to get our order, but that's to be expected in a new restaurant. There were a lot of employees, and they were keeping the place clean and the lines moving. The sandwich was on a delicious crusty roll and piled high with meat and onions. It was tender and delicious. We'll try some of their other items when we go again. read more

Okay this place is the bomb. The place is a bit loud but with it being a big place and very busy it should be expected. I got the Italian sausage with onions and added mozzarella cheese. My wife got the Italian beef and we shared a side of onion rings and two drinks. What is interesting and new is that you order and then you go down to the end where they have a screen showing your number. You can see how your order is progressing. The onion rings were very good with a tasty crunchy coating, fresh and hot. The Italian sausage was very tasty and spice just right. The sautéed onions and cheese complimented it just right. Italian beef tasty and tender. What really made the sandwiches really good was the rolls. Soft but not heavy. This will be a restaurant we will definitely return to. read more

Really loved the fun decor and atmosphere. High ceilings and lots of seating. Wasn't too busy on the weekday afternoon we visited. I'm not a "chicago dog" person, so I got mine with just the basic condiments plus fries and a drink. Drink was refilled a couple times by staff and they were friendly and attentive (at the counter). I don't know what happened here; was it bad management or did the chain get sold? My last two visits here, both soft opening and later at the drive thru where typical outstanding service and quality. This time not only did it take what seemed forever to get my order, their shake machine was "broken"(?) according to an employee. I specifically drove 1 hour to get an Italian Beef and cake shake; the shake was nothing more that flavored ice milk with NO CAKE. When they replaced it, I got chocolate milk swirled into ice milk. I discovered Portillo's on a trip to Chicago several years back and enjoyed it so much the first time that I squeezed in a second visit during my short trip. I was thrilled when I heard we were getting a location in Tucson. I love the chili cheese and Chicago dogs, but the Italian beef sandwiches are also delish. My husband swears by the burgers and is also a big fan of the fries. Service is always quick, regardless of if you're driving through or dining in, and the staff is very friendly. I asked a lot of questions and she couldn't be nicer in the front, then waiting for our order very fast they forgot a drink give it to us really fast When we were sitting there. Very clean place. A gentleman came by and took all our garbage. The food was very good so we majority people had hamburgers. They said it was delicious and cheeseburgers.
