I was pleased with the result, as they did exactly what they said they would do, when the said they would do it. The work was of high quality. This is a father & son team, both of whom do the work, though the son runs the business, and the father, it seems, sets the standards for quality. Recently, I planned to build a home office in my basement, and called Melco. Their quote was higher than I expected, but I did not look for competitive bids, as I knew them to be fair and responsible. The final project came in very close to budget, and where it went over was due to significant changes in my specs, and the quoted price was inclusive of many details I hadn't considered to include in a detailed estimate. In every detail they exceeded my expectations. Even where elements of the construction might have been hidden from view, there was a clear commitment to 'doing it the right way," which they insisted on from their subcontractors as well. These are the people you would want working for you, as their work ethic is strong, their business ethics are sound, the work quality is tops, they were accountable, kept the worksite clean, stayed in communication, pulled no surprises, and were easy to work with. Byggmeister was very good at protecting all interiors and keeping everything clean/not dusty in what can be very messy work. Responsive team that is extremely knowledgeable about building science. They also removed radiators (I've gone to all heat pumps for heating and cooling) and repaired my wood floors where radiators were removed so I have more space. I can't say enough about the quality of their carpentry,innovativeness in taking wood from closet to repair holes in wood flooring so matches incredibly well, and ease of dealing with Byggmeister employees. I'd highly recommend Byggmeister if you looking to remodel - have a historic renovation, to finish attic or basement- convert home to two units etc- especially because they are SO knowledgeable about incorporating energy upgrades in older homes as part of renovation. It's beautiful now, and very solid and well-insulated (the opposite of its former state). They also replaced two basement windows, and our carpenter ant infested bulkhead door. Paul's crew were all very nice, interesting, hard-working, and talented people. Great communication throughout the work. Another reason I like them is that they are extremely concerned with the quality of their work - as opposed to those who are simply collecting a paycheck. They said that they will contact us to follow up after a year, and again in 2 years. Finally, they are very much aware of the energy efficiency of the structures they are building, and even brought an air-sealing specialist over one morning to ensure that there were no air leaks into the new crawlspace (what other firm would bother to do that, at least for a crawlspace?). If you go with a dirt-cheap contractor, you may pay less up front, but more over time through your utility bills.

Between his first visit to inspect some water damage our home had taken in a recent storm to his last visit when the work was completed, I needed to talk to Chris many times over a period of several weeks and never had a problem establishing contact with him. Not only was the work done in less than 2 days, but our new roof looks great and really makes us whole house shine a little brighter. And by mid-day the following day, the post-work cleanup was finished and our whole yard and driveway looked as if nothing had happened. For the last five years we have been trying to get "one more year" out of the roof. When the vendor who cleans our gutters said we had a roofing section down to bare wood we became mobilized. On December 26th, using Google reviews, we called the first roofer presenting, Pinnacle Exteriors, (they had 20 five-star reviews and was from the neighboring town) Chris was over within about two hours that same day, had taken photos and was able to show us where the issues existed. We considered other roofers, some even recommended by close friends, but Chris stood out with his no nonsense, can do, we can fit it in during a break in the weather over the next two weeks, approach. Other roofers didn't seem to want the job. Chris considers this time of year in many ways optimal to be installing a roof. When a clear weather day approached with a 40 degrees forecast, Chris let me know that was the day. On Jan 23, 2024, a crew of nine arrived and completed both house and garage roof replacements in one day (7:30 am to 5:00 pm). Chris and his entire crew are very professional, knowledgeable and very easy to communicate with. They are real craftsmen taking extra care in all their work. Even repairing some issues with our chimneys and gutters. Chris and his son Nick went into the attic and covered everything and then cleaned up after. They did a thorough clean up and also used a large rolling magnet to pick up all the nails. Chris came back the next day after the dumpster was removed to again do a magnet sweep of the driveway. This company is very detail oriented. We were extremely pleased with the result and the look of the roofs. We highly recommend Chris and his team to anyone looking to work with an honest hard-working group. Did you know, Chris is also a great carpenter! This year he was back for another big job and some smaller yet tedious jobs. We had him repair and cover all the exposed (and some rotted) exterior wood on our entire 1920 house. That included the wood window trim, soffits and trim around all the doors. It was a big job as we have a large multi family house. He replaced the house numbers, and also did some paint touch up. We also decided to have him replace four outside storm doors which also meant rewiring the doorbells or installing wireless doorbells. He also supplied and installed windows, including those hard to get to windows in the basement. He probably did more work that I don't even know about as he takes pride in his work and is meticulous. Friends that have spoken to me or read my review of his roof work, are also impressed. I feel like we hit the jackpot with Chris. He's a great guy, very honest and you can trust him. Stan came over, saw my situation and right away knew exactly what I want. He saw that it was very narrow and said he can make it a little wider. While he was there, I mentioned that I want to have my foundation wall finished with stucco. He told me he has a guy who can do that too. Well, I got a couple of other quotes from others and I knew after that Stan was the right guy for the job. His numbers are very reasonable and I can tell he knew what he was doing. They understood what we wanted and suggested design that would work well. They assisted in choosing cabinetry, flooring and counter tops that all worked well together. Tom came originally to scope out the construction details and what would need to be done ex. vent for stove through attic, sub panel for electric system. Once the construction started Eric was the lead carpenter. He supervised the whole project. He was great. He kept us informed about what was happening when. He also introduced us to each of the sub contractors who came to do work. All were pleasant and professional. They put protective coverings on floors and doorways to limit dust. At the end of each day they cleaned up and vacuumed the work area. When one of the cabinet doors came in the wrong size, there was no question about replacing it. One thing I really appreciated was that construction did not start until they had received all of the cabinets, flooring, countertop etc so work went smoothly and was completed without delays.

We worked with Alyssa to help design everything, something she has great skill and a true eye for detail. She didn't try to push products or oversell us. If anything, she provided some suggestions on how to lower cost (used remnants for the quartz countertop; suggested comparing costs to Home Depot). Once the design was finalized, I was extremely impressed with Eric, the contractor who installed the island himself and oversaw the other contractors. He was excellent communicating with me each and every day. He noticed some inconsistencies in the wood on the cabinet doors of the island and immediately ordered new one (he still installed the original and came a few days later with the new doors). Everything was just so professional. I haven't had too many experiences with contractors in the past, but every one I (and my family, for that matter) have had for the most part have been negative. The project doesn't start on time, finish on time, guys no-show for no apparent reason, etc. This was the opposite. Watch City had the chance to move up the timeline, which fit into my schedule. As a result, the project was done a week early. If you're looking to do any sort of work on your kitchen, definitely give Watch City a look.

Allen Grome had a lack of communication and follow through after he got the job. There were numerous mistakes and issues, from structural mistakes to poor scheduling to not ordering required supplies in a timely manner - which all lead to delays and overages - there were too many issues to put into this review. However, pictures don't lie. So take a look at the quality of their work and decide for yourself. Additionally, their contracts are very vague and high level, they are not detailed, so there is plausible deniability on their part. Buyer beware! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In response to the comment by AG Remodeling, Allen Grome: In his response to our review, he goes on about how the inspections passed, and how much scheduling there was but he doesn't acknowledge or accept responsibility for the mistakes, problems and poor quality of the finish work. This is an especially important point, because when you spend a lot of money on your home, you want it to look beautiful and be done right. I don't know why AG Remodeling would be surprised at the low rating they received from us, they shouldn't have been. We had many discussions during the course of the project and Allen knew we were not happy. We consistently asked for more communication throughout the project, but rarely got it. The pictures that we attached to the review were accurately documented at the end of the project. The wall corners that are not square, the mirrors that are not straight or square, the knicked baseboard that was painted and left in place and the poorly joined baseboards would never be considered "punch list items". These are examples of a crew that doesn't put in the effort to properly do a quality job the first time around. If they had come back to correct them at the end of the project, they would've had to tear up our house again, and we had serious concerns whether it would ever be done right. We had several conversations with Allen about these issues and he never once acknowledged any of our concerns. We gave them one opportunity to fix the "punch list items", and the picture of how they filled in the nail holes was a result of "nail holes that were not filled". They wanted to sand the joined baseboard molding in order to make it look better, more even. We insisted that it be replaced. At that point, we lost confidence in their ability to properly fix the "punch list items" and told them to just leave as we were fed up. This was also told to Allen, so again, the review shouldn't have been a surprise.
