How lucky was I to stumble across Porter Barn Wood for a project I had been working on in my backyard- restoring a falling down dresser to something beautiful and I was in need of a new top. David greeted me I'm sure with a smile behind his mask :) but my gracious as you walk through their unbelievable doors you can't help but think they have restored every hotel, bar and restaurant in town. Incredibly disappointed and frustrated with my experience with Porter. I placed an order for a mantle I was told would be 13 weeks out just before closing on a Saturday, and attempted to cancel the order the following Monday after finding a more reasonably priced option that would deliver in 4 weeks. I was then told deposits, which was 50% of the total, were non-refundable, which was not communicated during the buying process. Porter then pointed to the invoice, drawing, and receipt, which has the disclaimer in approximately 5-point font buried in a 240 word paragraph, and was signed by me in an approximately 60 second time span on Saturday when the salesperson asked me to "sign here, here, and here". After disputing the charge, but still being required to pay based on the signed invoice, I requested that Porter donate the deposit to charity, since the only other option was a store credit. At this point, I have not received any proof a charitable donation has been made, nor have I received a credit, and it has been 5 weeks since my donation request. read more

We're about $9,000 invested in their products, which consist of an awesome black walnut live edge slab dining table with an equally awesome custom made black metal base, and a soon to be finished coffee table. We had high expectations when we decided to pull the trigger on a dining table that would end up with a price tag of over $6,000, and they truly delivered. There were several employees involved (including the owner) throughout the process and we found each of them to be very friendly, helpful, professional, and most important very good at their craft. We absolutely chose the slabs (actually it was multiple slabs) used for the dining table and the design of the stand was ours, so our table is as custom as custom gets. After seeing the finished dining table we immediately chose a very unique piece of eucalyptus for our soon to be completed coffee table. We get many compliments from neighbors/friends when they see the dining table and that alone validates the quality of work Porter Barn provides. We did not buy our barn door from Porter Barn, but we've seen several there that are awesome looking and had us second guessing the choice we made at a different business. Also saw a custom desk that would have been a great addition if I had not already purchased a new desk somewhere else. If you are in the market for extremely high quality custom wood furnishings you really should include Porter Barn in your search. I did some price comparisons and Porter Barn really is competitive, but that's not an easy task when you're building one-of-a-kind pieces. We just moved to the area from Virginia, and wanted to purchase a live edge desk as a statement piece in our new home! We contacted Porter Barnwood about purchasing and finishing a custom wood slab for us. They contacted us back quickly, and we had the pleasure of picking our own oak slab for the project. (If you haven't visited their showroom and facilities - you need to...it's truly a pleasure). The slab is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL and Thomas (the owner) helped us with re-welding the legs (purchased separately) so they fit perfectly. I went to Porter with great expectations. I parted company discussed. Needing some metal work done in a major remodel . I Supplied them with a conceptual design drawing along with a 50% deposit. Then I waited and waited and waited for the return of final drawings. Never got the drawings. When they finally showed up to install the job it was a disaster to say the least. I have never in my 20 years of remolding homes worked with such a poor supplier. There will always problems with remodels and construction of finish work. For our new house we wanted a few wow pieces we just couldn't find anywhere. Then we discovered Porter's. We went down on a Saturday morning at 8am (by 9am it was swarmed I suggest going on a weekday) and talked with Bjorn. We found some amazing pieces of wood for a kitchen island a desk and mantle. Porter's can do it all from the woodwork and finishes to the bases and the results are amazing. Obviously custom work takes awhile and my only critic would be that it took a couple weeks longer than expected (our main point of contact had a family emergency and was out of office for a while so I get it) - but in the end the results are exactly what we were looking for. Our General Contractor took one look and decided to call them for a large project in his own home. We are heading back down next week to get some more wood for some additional projects. read more

This place is fantastic. For it being a wood scrap yard there were a lot of people coming and going. I found what I was looking for after walking the property. I went there looking for 2 vintage windows to use in my wedding and the first guy I asked showed me the area where the Windows are but not what I was looking for, all the glass was broken out and I was looking for ones with the glass. So I ventured off to look to see if anything caught my eye and ended up being asked by one of the owners what I was looking for and he actually had a good stack at there other warehouse down the street. He directed me over there with letting one of his guys know I was on my way, found EXACTLY what I wanted. The guys were trusting enough to let me put the Windows in my car and drive back to the other location and pay, I was shocked considering you seem to not be able to trust anyone these days. Very great customer service! While waiting to walk the property I walked into the main building and saw some awesome pieces that they have done. Also when you walk the property you see some of the things they are actually working on, very neat to see how a scrap piece of wood could turn into a complete beauty! The prices were a bit disappointing to me. I found it extremely expensive. Very cool place but I don't understand how they justify their prices. I went there thinking I was going to walk out with about five pieces of wood for around at most $30 and that was NOT the case. It was just a measly little pile I had so I was shocked at the price. I ended up not buying anything at the quote they gave me for just a couple of pieces. Anyone else think the prices are too high? read more

Came in to check out some wood for custom shelves. They were super awesome. Great selection of woods, finishes, options galore. It was nice to see how dedicated they were to salvaging the woods and refinishing them for people to love. I wish they were lil less pricey, that being said I live in the Pacific Northwest most of the time, in a place surrounded by shops like this, so I am sure the supply vs the demand thing falls into effect here. Either way price also does dictate quality and that is one thing I am 100% sure you would get here. read more

Porters is fantastic. We wanted an entire wall covered with wood. The selection is amazing and we got just what we wanted. The personnel are great and so helpful. A beautiful job by Porters craftsmen. When they do a wall they first put up plywood then paint it black. they use tiny nails and it is a first class job that you can be proud of. A little higher price but the results are worth every penny. When you pay a little extra you only cry once. I recommend Porter for a fine job. read more

I LOVED my experience here! My mom and I didn't know what the heck we were doing, going all the way downtown Phoenix to a lumber yard, in search of something, that could end up being special, for my kitchen project. Not the same old junk I kept seeing online. I wanted free floating real wood shelves with live edges and some character and warmth. And I would have to say that is exactly what I got in the perfect pieces of wood. In the way of the service also, character, warmth and yes a little 'live edge' as well, lol, they were fun. Tom Porter senior was AMAZING! He helped us learn about what we wanted and needed for our specific project, he was super patient and helpful. He was fun and had such a warm and welcoming way. My mom said she loved it cause he was willing to answer any questions we had about the wood no matter how dumb the question ; ) she also liked that everyone there seemed to be calm and seemed to like their co workers and their jobs. They have so much wood, for any budget very high to low, many beautiful pieces and it seems like something for every single project! The building itself is gorgeous, I had to take a picture of it. It seems like the kind of place that has been there for 50 years, but it hasn't.
