A wanderer in a new world, holding myself against a tide of modernity. It seems there are few of me left. Few haggard stragglers, refusing to let the tide take ya! And yet here I am, on my iPhone twenty-something or other, tip-tapping away on a make believe screen talking about my times. My times...my father used to come home with hell on his breath, puttin' the fear of god in me. His knuckles smelled like the textile mill. "Be a man!" He would shout, my mother would try to hold him back but anyway... I'm still here, an old man but still here. So take that. Where was I again? I remember the age of Patti Page, the age of fast-talking, ciggy smoking, bitch slapping men. What ever happened to the dean martins of the world anyway? What happened to the world of ford sunliners and plymouths with tailfins and dads playing ball in the front lawn in fitted suits? My dad used to huck the ball at my head when I dropped a ball. Said he was trying to make me into a star ballplayer. Well, my friends, Milton's is the store for men. Not just any kind of men, real men. The men of the past. It even smells like the past in here too. Kind of like my pappy's root cellar, mildew included. That's really not the point though. Here, you can find all your fine suited needs. Wingtip shoes, fedoras, seersucker pleats and belts to boot. It is almost like the past, but it lacks something. Maybe the fear of god or of communism. Sometimes I come here to feel more at home in a world gone mad. Cheers.

In searching for someone who sold Tommy Hilfiger suits and could help, Milton's came up as one of the results. Taking a chance, I called the Chestnut Hill location and talked to Joe, who was filling in at the location. Let me tell you, for someone who is in full panic mode to talk to someone as knowledgeable, calm and willing to help was a God send. Joe took the time to listen to what I needed. He helped me with finding something that would work for the groomsmen and went above and beyond to make getting them shipped to me easy. I also spoke with Tim, who was friendly, knowledgeable and a tremendous help. Today, retailers of any size seem to be so focused on the amount of the sale to increase profit, they forget about what the customer actual needs. Milton's is not like that in my experience. They helped a guy from over 1100 miles away that is only going to spend $300 dollars like he was the most important customer. Thank you Joe and Tim, I appreciate more than you.

They never try to swindle or oversell. They will pull apart every shirt in that store for you to try on if you asked them to with a smile. These folks are professional. Is it different than the old "John Farley's", yes of course it is, it's under new ownership. I had not been shopping at J.F. for an incredibly long time, so I was not a yeas-long customer before they closed as many were, but I've had really great experiences at both. J.F. was a bit larger, and seemed to concentrate more on tailored suits and tuxedos than off-the-rack sport wear, outer, and casual, but Farley's still does tailored suits and still uses some of the same manufacturers. This means that if I need to replace a pair of pants on my charcoal suit which I bought at J.F. four or five years ago, I can. they have a lot of variety and carry a wide range of sizes across all of their brands, and they know which brands run small and which run large and will tell you! I'm a big, somewhat strangely proportioned dude, and yet just about every time I go here I manage to find something that I can wear comfortably. I remember on time we were talking about different manufacturers sizing and to prove the point they had me try on a Peter Millar XXL shirt and a Rodd & Gunn XXL. Millar fits me quite well, still a tad snug in the shoulders but fine. The Rodd and Gunn however wouldn't even come close to buttoning, there was about a 3 inch gap between the buttons and the holes! They predicted as much. So if you have a question about a brand, they will know the answer. They also carry 34 Heritage jeans, which are one of the only brand of jeans I wear for general use. The bottom line is that this is a top notch shop with top notch employees. It may not be quite as formal as J.F. and the below reviewer's situation is unfortunate, but when a business closes, gift certificates are no longer valid. It's a risk one takes with buying/giving them. If J.F. had sold the gift certificates after they had planned to close, they should have informed the person buying them that they needed to be used by a certain date and wrote that on the certificate. You can't really expect a store to give away free merchandise because someone sat on a gift for a long time or the former store failed to inform the purchaser of a potential close. I also know for a fact that John Farley informed people of their closing far in advance because every time iId go in to buy something for months before closing I was reminded at check-out.

Clothes aren't nice enough to give snooty boutique treatment…read more I brought my 14 year old daughter into this empty establishment full of cubicle clothes, in hopes of being fitted for her 8th grade semi-formal. She prefers to dress like a male, and clearly this bothered the staff there, as they chose to appear too busy folding clothes to make the store any money. The older woman with the accent asked if she could help us, and I said "we're looking for slacks, a shirt and vest for my daughter for her prom". She asked what size slacks, I responded 28", and she informed me that they start at size 30". I followed up with, "what about a shirt and vest?", she replied "for who?, I said "for me", she said, "what size are you?", and I repeated to her that we were there to shop my daughter, who was standing next to me feeling awkward enough as is. The sad thing is, we were at the Boston Pride parade the day before, and my daughter felt so good about herself, then the following day, this clothes folder takes it upon herself to make the conversation as difficult as possible to not assist my child. After we looked through the call-center-special clothes for another minute or so, we realize that we were definitely in the wrong place for what we were in search of. A man with a measuring tape comes out from the back, speaks to the woman that couldn't assist us, then asks what he can help us with. I told HIM, "I'm looking to have my daughter dressed for the prom" he responds with a laugh, "they still have those?".. good one, Don Wrinkles.. I went to the store because for some reason I thought "Jos A" was Joseph Abboud, who is a classy man that goes to the same gym as me. I asked the comedian with the frumpy clothes if Joseph Abboud owned the store and he said they didn't, so we left, as we were clearly in the wrong place. We went to Macy's across the street, found my daughter a nice black Calvin Klein suit and she is ready for her semi! I will never return to Jos A Bank again, and am tempted to go beyond this post in spreading the word of how they judged/treated my child.
