Were taken to this Inn by friends who have been a couple of times and positively raved about it. Have to say, it's a lovely little place. Beautiful conservatory entrance, very well set out with very nice tables and chairs, not too close together, and with lovely atmosphere. Set lunch was reasonably priced and, while not a huge choice, there was certainly something for everyone and there was always the choice of a larger individually priced menu if there was nothing you fancy on the set menu. Three of us had the samosas for a starter and one had the pate. All were very tasty. Three of us also had the haddock goujons for main course and these were absolutely delicious. The fish was fresh and beautifully cooked and the batter was delicate and very crispy and not a bit of grease to be seen when you cut into them, add in the hand-cut chips and some lovely tartare sauce and it was heavenly. My husband had venison sausages and mashed potato with veg and, having pinched a bit of a taste, I can confirm that these were equal to the fish for taste and presentation. While the portions were not huge, they were filling enough for 2 of us not to have dessert but one had the cheese platter which had a lovely selection of cheeses and the other had the rhubarb and apple crumble which I was assured was lovely. All in all very nice indeed. Then there were the little extra things that I found particularly nice - the tiny little teacups for your tartare sauce and tomato ketchup (beats a bit dollop on your plate or a bottle of ketchup being dumped on the table) and the attentiveness of the staff which was very refreshing - without them being in your face, and, having commented on some of the herbs used in the starter, the owner bringing out a selection of different ones for us to try and being very knowledgable about them. The cherry on the cake was as we were leaving and the owner held the door open for us to go out into the pouring rain. She stopped us and asked where our car was parked and when we told her it was about 10 mins walk away, she said to wait where we were and she'd bring the car round. She then drove us right to where our car was parked so we didn't get wet! Never happened to us before but it made us all feel really well looked after. If there was anything negative to say, it would be that there's not much parking near the place and what there is isn't well signposted but, to be honest, that's hardly much to worry about. Can definitely recommend this place and will, without a shadow of a doubt, be back. read more
