She directed me inside, so I stood in line at the check-out but the cashier didn't know how to help me. Meanwhile, the young woman from outside entered the store and met with two other co-workers behind the counter where I was standing. They were conferring about break times and clearly couldn't be bothered. Finally, one of the young women blurted out a cursory list of requirements but offered no advice as to where to bring the paint, etc. It was really disheartening to be treated in this manner. I hope management is aware.

I have been going to A & M painting for about 10 years. I f*#4ing hate painting. I would rather donate both lungs to a fish than paint. A & M makes painting so, so much easier. Go to A & M painting or I will write a scathing review about your hygiene habits. In my experience, every great business is great largely because of the people that work there. Scott knows more about paint than Van Gogh. He's also incredibly unlikely to cut off his ear and send it to you. He will spend time with you. He will find both the correct product for you and set you on the path to an efficient, beautiful project. You have no idea how much I hate painting. I would rather have all my teeth pulled and replaced with those blue sanitizer things at the bottom of urinals than paint. A & M makes painting more like getting a bad papercut with a tax bill, so relatively tolerable. I wish I could show you what I am looking at. I asked Scott to match a paint the previous tenant of my office left for the walls. (I should mention that the previous business failed because the idiot owner bought paint at Lowe's, where, I $h!t you not, I was recently told that there are two quarts in a gallon. True story.) Scott hooked me up with a paint that is the exact - EXACT - color match. That's not the only thing though. He knows I hate painting - mostly because of the anti-painting protests I hold downtown once a month or so - so he gave me a paint so high in quality that the job only needed one coat. Really. The whole room, 12' x 15', took me two hours, including sanding, washing, taping, and painting. I f*#$ing hate painting so much. It's like this for me: Boko Haram, painting, lobbyists, Bill Laimbeer, people that don't like Thanksgiving... I should mention that the first time I went to A & M was because I asked a professional painter where I should go, and he told me A & M. Keeping with this train of thought...Ever go into a sushi place and you're the only American there? Everyone else is Japanese? Well, I have. I was in Japan, but that doesn't matter. Half of the people in A & M are professional painters. Follow the pros to find other pros. In this case, if you follow the pros, you won't end up at Lowe's; that's because 4 quarts per gallon Scott knows, does and bros. So, skip the Homer "DOHs" and go to A & M, because painting blows. Your job will come out much better and be much easier. Do it. Rumi tip of the day: A female deer is a doe. Plural is "does."

I was sold a luxury vinyl floor from Devoe with a lifetime guarantee. In about a year some of the…read moretiles started peeling in 1/2" strips. I've gone back to Devoe to resolve this problem "4 times now" and they have done nothing. I have brought them strips of my floor and pictures. Each time I've been told that it will cost me $ to get the floor assessed to see if it is actually faulty so I shouldn't bother. I'm confident that a few tiles were defective and reassured them that I have no problem with the assessment fee and yet I here nothing back from them. At this point it is clear that they are not going to honor the lifetime guarantee. this is not the kind of place to do business with. Other than the few faulty tiles, it would be a great floor. Inside it has more than average amount of paint swatches and collections of paint to help narrow down your colors. I went in a few different times and the guy working there was nice. They of course have tons of paint related items and I found it super helpful to buy the kits with foam boards and mini rollers so I could apply my sample paint to several large squares that could be affixed temporarily to my wall at home rather than paint all over my new drywall as we decided our colors. I have only two complaints- 1) the only sample size here is ridiculous- it's way to large, unless I plan on painting an entire wall to decide, I'm wasting paint and they are quite expensive compared to other smaller sized samples from other stores (and believe me, the cost adds up quick if you get multiple samples!) 2) we chose our color based on the formula on the sample, which when our painter got our paint, it ended up needing to be repainted due to the color being wrong compared to the sample. This was fixed later and figured out by our painter with Maine Paint and we were lucky enough that the second coat covered the wrong color well. The right color is beautiful. All in all I'd recommend the paint and give this location another go, but they appear to need to work on their mixing consistency. The color should be the same no matter which Maine Paint you go to and what sample you get!

I only have good experiences here. The lumber is kept in a huge shed and is dry and well inventoried. They will cut boards for you if they are too long. There are thousands of hydraulic fittings, taps and dies, tools, etc. It's endless. This is sort of like an old fashioned hardware store with endless little bins and a guy who knows everything, but on a Home Depot scale. There's stuff inside that probably hasn't been made in 20 years and much of it is gigantic, as you'd expect from their name, Industrial Hardware. It's a tremendous treasure hunt and if you're the kind of person who can appreciate a store like this, you don't want to miss it.
