While we didn't dine in yet, our takeout experience was so good we can't wait to come in person.
We decided to order Poppy and Pine for breakfast one weekend morning because we had heard great things.
My mom did the blueberry cobbler waffle, my husband did the Big Poppy, I did the Nashville hot chicken bowl, and we all shared the cinnamon sugar donuts.
Let's start with the donuts. Little crispy balls of cinnamon sugared dough are the perfect size to pop as your "little something sweet", delicious dipped in the wild blueberry compote. Instead of ordering table pancakes, this is a great alternative if you're a brunch aficionado.
My husbands Big Poppy was a huge breakfast sandwich consisting of fried chicken, bacon, and a cheese omelet on a Belgium waffle served with home fries. I have never seen him unable to finish something, but he actually saved half for the next morning. I had a bite and it was so good I wish we had split it.
My mom's blueberry cobbler waffle came with a warm blueberry compote and crumb topping. If you're a carb loving sweet tooth, this one is a must.
Now, I definitely misordered - but it's 100% my fault and not Poppy and Pines. The Nashville Hot chicken bowl has the name HOT in the title, and while I was never a fan of spicy food before, I've broken out of my shell and started enjoying things with some spice over the last few years. However, I should have known that this was going to be HOT and it sure was. This bowl was FILLED with chicken, peppers, onions, potatoes, and two eggs. I got my eggs over medium and they were perfect. It said it had cheese on it as well but I didn't notice it. Perhaps it had melted by the time it got to me, but I added some of my own to try to cool down some of the spiciness.
The flavor was fantastic though and if it wasn't so spicy, it would have been exactly what I craved.
We will definitely be visiting in person to try more of the menu soon. read more
