This place has gone downhill. Came in here the other day to order a slice of cake and espresso at the "to go" counter. The employee behind the counter was rude and the cake was terrible. The only thing worse than the cardboard-like cake was the obnoxiously sweet frosting. If you want cake, it would be more worth your while to walk down to market basket and pick up a box of Betty Crocker. read more

Came in for lunch once, so this might be updated when I go back again. I bought the Chipolte Ham & Pork Panini with an iced tea. The panini was warm and tasty, the iced tea was cold and refreshing. Prices were on the higher end, so I can't see myself visiting too often. We bought a sweet when we left, which was a little on the high end as well but very rich. The staff was wonderful. Very professional, attentive, and fast with service, the pastry chef was very friendly too. On the way out, I left my keys at the table, and luckily one of the busboys picked them up and held them for me while I was freaking out in the parking lot. I'll be going back to try other items, but for now I'm a fan! read more

Food was ok, but don't try to make reservations. I Googled their website and an option for making a reservation came up. I selected it and called the restaurant for confirmation. When I called a guy told me that they only do call ahead and that "they never asked for the Google reservation system, it just comes up". I then asked to be put on the call ahead list and was told my reservation was all set. Got there a few minutes before the requested time and was told they didn't have a reservation for me but they'd seat me in a few minutes. Essentially, I was put on the call ahead list when I walked in the door and ended up waiting 45 minutes for a first available seat. Food definitely not worth the aggravation. And why does a restaurant that doesn't take reservations have these at the host stand (see pic)?? read more

This is one of those places where the specials are consistently the thing to get and are usually better than anything on the menu. Take for instance this week, the grilled cheese with pulled pork and pineapple sandwich - the thing was amazing and unfortunately one week only. The wine list is small but very good. Great ambiance sitting outside when the weather is nice. Friendly service and good management that's responsive to requests. The loyalty program is also a good deal. You have to pay $5 for the loyalty card - but they pre-load it with $10 credit. Pay for one meal for you and your date and you now have enough for a free lunch or something along those lines the next time you come in.... read more

I had eaten here a few years ago and the food was awful so my wife and I haven't tried it since. But wanting something different and being around Popovers, I decided to give it strike two and three all in one go. I'm glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised. I got the smoked chill wings and the Reuben. My wife got the chicken quesadilla to share and a chicken sandwich. The chicken wings were okay. The smoke flavor was good but they weren't tossed in enough of the chili sauce. The reuben was well done, though the corned beef was a bit dry, the chicken sandwich was well grilled and moist and the quesadilla was well flavored. Overall I'm glad we gave it another shot and we'll definitely keep on going. read more

I wish I could tell y the food was good. I have no idea if it is. My mom and I went in and no one came to our table for 20 minutes and no one even looked at us. Also there was very loud live music, (the guys was actually super talented... I enjoyed it!) but it was way way too loud. At one point, a waitress came out and gave the dog at the table next to us water... but we didn't even get water. We walked out and no one noticed. read more

Epping location est-in was so-so. Really nice server but very small portions for a hefty price, and my kids $10 grilled cheese was burnt along the edges and not crispy in the middle. It's hard to mess up a grilled cheese sandwich imo, and a quick repeat if it's burnt, so that wasn't great. The cakes on the other hand are great. Pricey but worth every penny! I've ordered 3 so far and each one has been lovely (and yummy). We'll continue getting the pastries and cakes, but skip their meals. read more

Good food and even better bakery! Worth the wait! The gluten feee desserts are delicious! Outside dining is open spring to summer, and it is dog friendly. You can also have a shopping spree in the plaza before you head to lunch there, win win! read more

I eat here pretty often and decided to have my baby shower here in May outside on the patio. The staff was super kind, accomesating and efficient. Perfect place for any event! The bar inside has a chill atmosphere and good drinks as well. read more

it is okay..average..good tomato soup..meals are decent, prices a bit high..baked goods are great..

The atmosphere of this place is nice. It is bright, clean, and not too noisy. You can expect a wait if you hit it at peak meal times and there isn't much room to stand/sit while waiting without feeling like you're constantly in the way of the hostess and servers. I tried the pick two with a half sandwich of the BLT and the clam chowder. The chowder is everything I'd expect from this New England staple: creamy, big pieces of clam, and vegetables. The BLT was more disappointing. Its served on a multigrain ciabatta-type roll, which, when toasted gets really dry. Even though it had mayo on it, the sandwich was still just too dry. The bacon was crispy and had good flavor. For a $12 meal, I expected just a bit more. The popovers are really the star of the show. They are chewy and soft at the same time. read more

This was my first time at popovers after relocating from another state. The host was warm and pleasant. The waitress was cold and short. She did not engage pleasantly and was rude in her style of communication. The food, I had a tuna melt, was under seasoned if seasoned at all. VERY bland. I wouldn't return on purpose but would give their popovers a try to see if they are quality. read more

We came here for breakfast. A party of six we knew we would have to wait on a Sunday at 10am. We were told 20 minutes and they were pretty accurate, we waited 25 minutes. None of us have had breakfast here before, only popovers and desserts. We really did like it. My bf had the egg filled popover with bacon and I had the breakfast wrap. Both were delicious. I also had 2 lattes and my bf has one of the specialty drinks. We would go back for sure. read more

A totally solid spot to grab sandwiches and salads. I met up with a friend here as a convenient 'halfway point' when we were looking for something healthy. The interior is nothing magical (I get an upscale Denny's vibe), but very pleasant. The selection of baked goods looks really tasty, and there is plenty of variety in everything from intriguing apps to specialty iced teas. My friend had been there before, and swears by the chicken quesadilla, which she makes into two full meals. I ordered the "deviled eggs of the day," which were buffalo (3.5 stars) and a salad with pesto, chicken and a giant popover! I'm happy to report that the popover was the star of the show for me ... which makes total sense. It's also worth noting that my salad was large, fresh, and definitely more than a meal's worth. read more

Popovers is a repeat favorite of mine! I've been for breakfast, brunch, and dinner, and am never disappointed. The service is always good and the food is consitently delicious. I love the herb crusted chicken and the smoked salmon panini. I'll keep coming back -- 5 stars! read more

My sister and I had dinner at the bar. The bartender was great and the service was efficient. We both had wine on happy hour special. We shared the thanksgiving popover app to start, which was pretty good. I had the monte Christo panini for dinner. It was awesome. We shared the molton chocolate lava cake for dessert. I would definitely recommend. I see no reason not to return. read more

Popovers is a neat little place in a perfect location in downtown Epping (Brickyard Square). The staff were super sweet and welcoming upon entry. My friend and I didn't choose to dine in today, though their screened-in patio area did look very comfy! For a snack, I tried their homemade fruit tart which was exceptional. All their baked goods looked super tasty as a matter of fact. I did have a not-so-great experience with the cappuccino that I ordered. For some reason, it tasted very bitter, almost burnt and without the foamy richness of a traditional cappuccino. However, I would be more than happy to return and try a different coffee again! read more

Loved this place. Firstly: Great service. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Although my friend was terribly late, my server didn't ignore me while I waited. She checked on me every so often to see if I would like to order while waiting. She also didn't laugh in my face when I ordered a Shirley Temple as an adult. **I even got extra cherries** Secondly: Get the buffalo chicken dip. Get the buffalo chicken dip. Get the buffalo chicken dip. There is more bread than dip, but damn ... yum. Thirdly: Great food. Nothing was "meh". It was all delicious, as in lick-your-plate-clean delicious. Fourthly: I was jealous of all who live in the vicinity. It has a really cool, mellow atmosphere. Chic but not over the top, just a great place to go hang with friends. My friend and I have been meeting up in the Brickyard Plaza for years to eat and watch a movie but for some reason, this was our first time eating here. It won't be our last! read more

I'll admit it...I'm a tough critic of food and service. I've cooked professionally and traveled widely and like to think I know what constitutes a good restaurant. When I stopped at Popovers my expectations weren't high. It was a cold, rainy and gray day and I had spent much of the morning outdoors trying to work, without much success. I wanted something to eat and not just fast food. I saw the sign for Popovers and decided to give them a try - again with no great expectations, but hope for at least half-decent. The restaurant is clean and bright. I was quickly greeted and seated. My server arrived almost immediately, took my drink order for ice tea and returned quickly. I needed time to review the menu, so she stepped aside, but kept an eye on me and returned as soon as it was clear I was ready to order. I ordered a salad of spinach, goat cheese, maple glazed berries (something new to me) and a large popover with maple butter. The meal came quickly and was very attractive. More important, it was a great meal! The salad was clearly fresh without the "pre-made" taste so common in restaurants. The popover with maple butter is very good and comforting on a nasty weather day. My server was observant without being intrusive. I was very impressed with the food and the service. Definitely hope to return during my time in New England. read more

My husband and I decided to grab lunch here and it was the worst decision we ever made. We weren't greeted and the host didn't seem to care if we were there. After 30mins of being seated, other customers who were there after us were served, meanwhile my husband and I never even got asked if we wanted a beverage. After 40mins of being completely neglected we left. Oddly enough we were in an area that every server could see us. While leaving this establishment we were stared at and not a single goodbye or concern that we were leaving unhappy. I honestly hope it was the lack of professionalism, but my husband believes it was because I was the only person of color in the entire restaurant. read more

Food is good, service is good, what else can you ask for? The location of popovers in epping is also so convenient. I recommend sitting at a table rather than the high tops in the bar, the bartender has so much going on, you really won't be payed much attention too. The food is good, I feel it's a little pricey but the soup is good and salad is better! The mini popovers they give is are also warm and are so yummy! read more

We stopped by for a quick small dinner on our way back from Maine. I like the outside seating. Dinner was good but, my wife's chicken breast was below average for taste. It looked frozen put on the grill and have a good day. The wait staff even this case assumed that we wanted the check without asking if we wanted dessert or anything else. That is lost profit! The server did not ask which I am a rewards member another loss. read more

Half sandwich and soup lunch is just right. I've eaten here several times. Always happy.

I went here to pick up a lunch order I placed online 30 minutes prior. When I got there I had to wait an extra 10 minutes in line just to pick up my food. I ordered a BLT with provolone and some waffle fries. The waffle fries were cold and soggy when I opened the box. The BLT had Mayo on it when I specifically asked for no Mayo. Overall, bad experience. Do not think I will be going back anytime soon. read more

Came in this morning for full service brunch. Server was so rude and condescending to my mother and I I wanted to flip out on her. Told my mom who ordered an americano coffee that "we aren't Starbucks, really?" And ignored my mother's request for a gluten free sandwich. Interrupted us every time she came over, and rolled her eyes at my poor mom when she asked for gluten free. Popovers, you should be ashamed. Stars for decent food only. Won't be back due to lousy and rude and miserable server Christine. Fix your attitude Christine and popovers owner teach your staff to be respectful lot guests. UPDATE: general manager reached out and sent a gift card for us to try again. We have yet to use it read more

Ah Popovers.....a CLASSIC and solid choice (both the Portsmouth and Epping locations). A ton of parking since it's in a marketplace, which detracts a bit when dining on the summertime patio, but a cozy space inside. Make sure you put your name in when you get there!! The wait can be anywhere from 15-45min. Owner is SUPER nice and our server this past visit (Karen) was a sweetheart. So we've parked, put our name in, and have cosied up in our booth.......let's order! Husband ordered up the special (short rib mac'n'cheese $14) while I stuck with a mid-morning classic: deviled eggs (x3 halves for $4). While mini-popovers were included in our order, it was a unanimous agreement that full-sized pastry was in order (along with that maple butter - YUMMMM). Orders came out swiftly (one brunch beverage-worth of time) and was absolutely scrumptious!!! We had no pressure to move along from our server and had a great (and reasonably priced) visit with our close friends. Total win, easy to get to on 125 (close to 101), and deeeeelish! read more

My friend and I went to popovers in Epping and it failed on all accounts. I ordered a chicken quesadilla which ended up being a veggie quesadilla....we both had been expecting to bite into chicken but both were veggie. I told the manager and he blew me off; he could have easily salvaged a bad situation but chose not to. Save yourself a disappointment-avoid Popovers! read more

This is a great place to go in and have a nice meal. The dishes on the menu are a bit pricey but that's alright. The grilled cheese is delicious as well as the popovers. Their desserts are sort of expensive yet they're so small. This is a very good restaurant and I would definitely recommend It. read more

Ugh I have no idea how this place is open for breakfast with the meal we were served. Probably the worst breakfast I've ever had and the service was just as bad. Why work in a customer service industry when you clearly hate people? But I digress..... With the name popovers you would think that at least the popovers would be good, but no so much. The only thing good on the plate was the fruit cup and we got an attitude when I asked for it instead of bacon. I have no idea how good or bad the food is at lunch or dinner, but I can promise you that I will not be back to find out. read more

We'd driven by this place a lot and had heard the good reviews so we decided to try it one night when The Tuckaway Tavern had a two hour wait. We were not disappointed. The host and waitress were funny and pleasant. The restaurant itself was clean and open with big windows. It seemed to forsake a "theme" and just featured large booths and a dessert case inside. We decided to try the roasted beet and caprese sandwich, the chipotle ham and pulled pork sandwich and the pear gorgonzola salad between us and all were excellent. The orange cake for dessert was only OK. The prices were average, but the menus dinner entrees were nothing inspired and cost an arm and a leg. This is obviously a breakfast place so the benefit of the doubt is with them since we were there late and we'll certainly be going back to try the early morning menu next time. All in all, it was only average with some solid choices, but nothing out of the ordinary. read more
