Dr Poplin is nothing short of a godsend - my wife and I were considering cutting our 4 month old daughter's tongue and lip tie to address some feeding issues she was having. We were concerned because of the stories of overdiagnosis and unnecessary frenectomies and went all around Austin talking to IBCLCs, PTs, SLPs and pediatric dentists and felt like we couldn't get consistent and straight answers out of anyone about our daughter's specific case and what options we had - whether we wanted to do the frenectomy or not. Enter Dr Poplin, who was incredible - talking my wife and I through our anxieties and concerns, showing us clearly how the tongue and lip tie was affecting our daughter, and giving us options on the path forward. Dr Poplin is amazing! My daughter stopped breastfeeding all of a sudden. He got me in the same day I called to both assess and correct her lip tie. He took photos and explained lip and tongue tie thoroughly, then he made a recommendation and completed the procedure for her lip tie. He took post-op photos and explained them to us so we wouldn't be alarmed when we got him. The entire staff was so kind, helpful and informative. Dr Poplin was gentle with the baby, and he swaddled her himself for the procedure. He also didn't make us watch, which would have been so traumatizing for us as new parents. We were in and out of the office in under an hour, and that included breastfeeding her after the laser procedure was finished! I cannot recommend him more highly. Response directly from Dr. Poplin: Good morning. I just saw your review that was put up last week. First, let me say that I appreciate the good things that you mentioned. I am disappointed, however, in the negative things that you wrote. I'm not sure who you are based on the name or the last time you may have been at my office, but most of the "not good" is incorrect. When covid came around 4 years ago, we did ask that parents stay in the waiting room while their children were seen. Most parents saw that there children did well and were proud of themselves for being able to navigate an appointment with our wonderful team. Recently, more parents have been coming back with their children. I have no rule about children 7+ not having parents back. As for the magazines, this is also something that was removed during covid and we chose not to replace since most parents were just on their phones. I apologize if this is an inconvenience. I would also like to address your statements on insurance. As you said, I am willing to answer questions and like to practice in an environment where we do not rush patients through. With some insurances, unfortunately, keeping a business afloat with inflation and a large increase in supply cost and staff pay is simply not possible without being more of a "mill" of a practice. I'm sorry if this affected your family but I never look at insurance or treat anyone different based on insurance or cash pay. Lastly, I want to address your claim that I fire patients who leave negative reviews. I have never done this for something that was simply negative. If something is said that is false and slander, then that is a different story. Legitimate negative reviews make us strive to do better. If there are differences in treatment philosophies and I can't meet someone's desires then they will be best served with someone that can meet their needs. My response: Thank you for the opportunity for me to be clear. Jared, my main concern was your refusal to provide services and the fact that you went to the extent of writing a letter discharging your pediatric patients (my children). In your demeaning and negative letter, among the issues for discharging your patients from care was getting care at another provider. However, you failed to take into account that your business was unavailable for regular services due, in part, to disruptions by COVID. I never complained about this with you or your staff. Why would I? I would call. I would try to schedule. When we couldn't be seen in what I felt was a timely fashion, I would get my children care where they could receive care. If I had to wait for services at your office, we wouldn't be seen in what I felt was a timely manner. Please understand, this was not an issue of blame or fault against your office, but this experience affected me by getting services at another provider when it was convenient for my family. Shouldn't this be an option for parents and patients? To get services when they can, where they can? In the same way that businesses can choose to REFUSE services? You REFUSED to provide service for your pediatric patients. Why can I not also make choices? It was essentially counted against me (again, according to your discharge letter) to get service from another provider, but you are able to refuse a standard treatment of care for a patient who had been with your patient for several years. Your level of arrogance in requesting that I remove my review is astonishing. Still, I do thank you for the opportunity to be blatant about my one star review. Our years of being content "customers" was degraded in one fell swoop of yours to not only refuse service, but to completely discharge an entire family of pediatric patients. Dr Poplin and his team are nothing short of amazing. The minute I walked in I was greeted by the friendly ladies of Milk Divas who evaluated my daughter (who has been super colicky). They were super patient with me and all my questions. We decided to do the procedure same day which is super convenient considering leaving the house with a fussy newborn can be exhausting. They took the time to go over and review all the exercises and managed my expectations regarding recovery time. My baby was nursing right after the procedure! For parents of kids who are moderate to severely autistic who are looking for a dentist, keep looking. In 4 visits Dr. Poplin failed to clean my son's teeth, which a new dentist was able to do on the first visit (who I would recommend here but I would't want to give the impression of collusion). If your autistic child can't sit through a session or this will be their first dentist, I'm afraid Dr. Poplin doesn't have the ability to help them without using general anesthesia. I do not recommend this office. I went for tongue tie for my son. The insurance told me it's a covered service but the office refused to send the claim to the insurance. Well I even would have paid out of pocket but they canceld the appointment one week before the surgery. My son did myofunctional therapy for many month working towards the surgery and he was ready for it and then they just canceled the appointment saying the insurance doesn't cover the service even though I had a written agreement from the insurance that they will cover it. They lied to me for over a year and I waisted mine and my sons time waiting for this office.Don't waist your time go to a different office. read more

Dr. Poplin and team were incredible today! After much research I found that Dr. Poplin was the perfect pediatric dentist to help with my 10 month old son's tongue tie problems. He is one of few dentists in town that has training in orthotropics and does lingual frenectomies with a C02 laser (this is the absolute best laser for pediatrics). Emotionally, it is hard to see your 10 month old in pain. Being a dentist myself, I understand the importance of the tongue and oral posture in mouth and airway development. Dr. Jared and his team comforted my wife and I, and were able to complete the procedure in just over a minute with no shots, and no harmful medications to sedate. We saw instant improvements his lip and tongue mobility! Our son immediately latched on mom and was back to his happy self within the hour. There is definitely a special kind of person that can work with children and help in such a vulnerable time. Dr Poplin and his assistants displayed that the entire visit with my 22 month old. Dr Poplin is highly trained in lip and tongue ties. Our newborn had a pretty severe tongue tie after birth. One of our hospital consultants recommended we go see Dr. Poplin for laser surgery to fix the tongue tie. I believe this is unethical and I should of been notified BEFORE their appointment!! What if I was a parent that couldn't afford this?? We were referred to Dr. Poplin by my parents' dentist in Austin, Dr. Glenda Smith, and immediately found that it was the best referral we could have wished for in this scenario. While my daughter and I now live in San Diego, my home and my parents are still in Austin. Our local dentist, Davis Pediatric Dentistry, in our little beach town of Encinitas, is a 5-star dentist and anyone and everyone is a patient there and loves Davis. We quickly came to find that Dr. Poplin and his office are certainly the equivalent to our own dentist, and, they got us in for an emergency appointment while my daughter has been in town for the summer with my parents. Truly amazing! We recently moved and were having an insane time locating a pediatric dentist that was reputable AND took our insurance. Dr Poplins office was amazing from the first call! We were able to get an appointment that same week. They have simple online process for registration so we didn't have a mountain of paperwork. YAY!!!! Our first appointment was incredible. I always get a second opinion when it comes to addressing any serious health/wellness concerns for my children. I suspected my 5 month old and 5 year old both had a lip and tongue tie but I wanted to make absolutely sure before going through the long process of bodywork, myofunctional therapy and eventual release. Dr Poplin was actually the second pediatric dentist I went to and I'm so glad I followed my gut! The first dentist (Dr Lucas) was dismissive about my concerns and seemed very lax when it comes to her protocol for releasing lip/tongue ties. She said my baby's lip tie would eventually stretch out (which defies logic) and my older child did not have a tongue tie. Dr. Poplin immediately diagnosed said tongue tie and did some x-rays of my son's airway so I could see how his tongue posture and the structure of his mouth, chin and jaws were impacting his breathing, restricting his airway, and compounding issues such as teeth grinding and mouth breathing. He spent so much time answering questions and we now have a gameplan for resolving these concerns. Dr.Poplin is really the best. He diagnosed my 5 year old with a tongue tie within minutes. Something that was never diagnosed before and which has likely been contributing to some of his speech and sleep issues.
