Went to this place ONLY one time, they had a promotion for free whitening which is a SCAM. They do not perform the whitening at least you need to have some services that you need to pay for. Very disappointed the attitude that the show when you do not need service very dismissiv, aside from when u do need it they are all friendly. Also, I had even a service a cavity which was filled and very very bad job, I couldn't and still can floss between those teeth, and will absolutely not come back as no one should. Terrible experience! They required 1 week notice for cancellation and if not they charge 100/h for the cancellation! I got the deep cleaning for the right side done and paid the deposit already for the left side. I tried to cancel three days (and lose the deposit) in advance because not only the deep cleaning does not help with my gum but gum inflammation comes back which is worse before I had the deep cleaning. They still tried to charge me 150 because they claimed deep cleaning session is 90 min (and it won't because this includes the full exam time which I won't need for left side deep cleaning). ***Interesting like 5 min after I posted my review they sent me the message saying they will charge me the cancellation fee if I don't take off this negative review. So I understand why there are only few one-star reviews. Funny!!! read more

I tried this place for a first time and ONLY time for a quick cleaning. They are con artists! Paid my ridiculous deposit (unheard of) and showed up to be conned into believing that I needed a deep cleaning on my back teeth. They refused to give me a full cleaning and tried to charge me up front $500 for this and told me I could come back for it later and if I didn't get it done, then I wouldn't get the zoom whitening which comes with the cleaning for free. I declined to pay for something not being done THAT day! I left with a partial dental cleaning and contacted them multiple times to refund my card the deposit to hold the appointment time $100. I will NOT be back. I am going back to my long time dentist who is a farther drive but well worth it and would never scam me! He also doesn't require a stupid deposit for a cleaning lol. Had an appointment and found out I have covid so I called to reschedule. The CSC interrupted me while I asked if we could reschedule two weeks out with "Um we're booked out till end of March so I'll let you know when I have availability", and only seemed concerned with the $50 fee for cancelling. careless and made a big mistake in surgery I removed my wisdom teeth last year at North Austin Dentistry. It was a complicated surgery that the dentist has to cut my gum, cut the teeth into pieces, move them out and stitch up the wound. I can't believe that Dr Miller was no careless during the surgery and left one piece of my wisdom tooth inside my gums before stitching up the wound. I didn't notice the problem for one year but recently they began to hurt and I only got to know it from my new dentist after I took an x-ray with them. If they get worse I have to go through the pains and do the surgery again. How can Dr Miller be so irresponsible to this kind of painful surgery that should have happened at most once in a lifetime for each person. This is outrageous. The recovery takes months and just imagine that I may have to suffer and go through the whole procedure again makes it unbearable for me. read more

Wow just wow! He charges $500 in advance for a future procedure. I had a much more serios medical diagnosis and asked for my deposit back to have the dental done later. I kept my future cleaning appointment. I get a letter refusing future treatment. I've had several expensive procedures done with him the last 3 years! The last procedure he let the numbing agent wear off working on other clients so he came back and hid the syringe and snuck it into my mouth while I was unaware. I was shaking and about to faint when I left and the woman in the front asked if I was haviong a glucose episode. RUN! read more

I was in the state trooper academy and needed an exam/cleaning for the national guard. This office has openings on Saturdays which is a live saver. Coming into the office it's very nice and the staff is welcoming and great. Did the exam and was told I had one cavity that needed to be filled, they offered to do it right then and there! I got into a bad accident that required extensive dental work. Unfortunately, the first dentist I visited provided inadequate care, and I ended up with a faulty implant and crowns that looked terrible and hurt. I visited Dr. Miller, and he gave me a variety of options to correct the first dentist's work. I was very nervous after my bad experience, but he explained everything thoroughly and put me at ease. This review is a bit overdue, but likely because I wouldn't even know where to start when raving about THE BEST DENTIST I'VE EVER HAD. I recently moved to Austin and out of nowhere my wisdom teeth began to give me issues. I was freaking out and was uncertain where to turn to- as a temporarily uninsured person. I called a few other dentists, in the Austin area, to figure out what the appropriate steps to take would be; Some locations were rude over the phone, others were incredibly pricey (i'm talking 150+ for the consultation alone!), and the worst were the ones who were trying to sell me on some randooo yearly packages, because it "included the first consultation". Meanwhile, my wisdom tooth is hammering its way out of my head! So, you can imagine my response. I was like...wut? North Austin Dentistry had my business as soon as I called them and felt immediate reciprocity at my sense of urgency. They were able to book me in for a consultation and x-rays right away! The process of removing my wisdom teeth included a brief amount of time on anti-biotics, but the entire process looked a little like this: -From the day I made my first call to the day I went home, post-removal of those little wisdom suckers (avg. 2 weeks) -Post-op was another three days of napping and eating mashed potatoes...aka the typical hyrdrocodone'd adult-sized baby routine (+avg. 3 days) -Tagged on was another few days of sporting the chipmunk look for instagram. (+avg. 3 days) The entire process was suuuper swift, zero complications, stress free, and dare I say? ...incredibly pleasant!! I think my favorite part (besides getting treated by a MEGA RAD DENTIST, and his stellar staff: Linn, Brie, Lindsey, and his assistant Val) was getting to listen to some of the funkiest, feel-good tunes, as I'm getting my wisdoms removed! The procedure began, and for a a brief two seconds I started to get anxious, but that all changed course quickly----I was like hold up anxiety, BRB, because.... "Brass monkey, that funky monkey" ...beep-beep-beep-boop.... It was great. Dr Miller is an incredible Dentist, and much like other reviewers, I would give North Austin Dentistry a higher rating than five stars if I could. However, the internet has determined that humanity, at its absolute best, can equal only a total of five red stars.... Dr. Miller is hands down the best dentist I've ever had the pleasure of receiving treatment from (and yes I meant pleasure) I'm like most individuals I fear / dread going to visit the dentist. However, Dr.Miller totally made my cleaning a breeze. Super professional, down to earth, had me laughing the entire time. Also... he genuinely cares :-) He was available on a Saturday (since work prevents a normal weekday visit) Basically... It makes a world of difference to have a dentist that cares and is extremely competent in ALL aspects of dentistry. I left 100 percent happy. I was charged $100 for absolutely nothing at North Austin Dentistry! They didn't perform any actual exam, or even look at the tooth with the issue, then charged me even though they didn't perform the services I asked for. They conned me into coming into the office knowing that they weren't going to perform the services I needed just so they could charge me an office fee for nothing! They even told me just now when I spoke with them again that they couldn't perform the service I asked for. If they knew that then why did they have me come in for it? The worst experience I've had thus far with dental care. I came in this week to get all 4 wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Miller and not only was I in pain the entire procedure and will NEVER forget the feeling of him yanking while I wasn't completely numb (despite informing him several times that I have had issues with anesthetic in the past and would likely need more than a typical patient), but I have been in severe pain every day since (I'm now 3 days post-op and have followed all aftercare procedures). I want to point out that I have had several surgeries- 2 of which were rhinoplasty- and never had ANY issues with pain management after those procedures. The prescription written for me for pain is obviously NOT working if I have been in severe pain for three days with NO relief. I have not been able to eat or drink or sleep for more than 30 min intervals. Just walking hurts. My husbands had the exact same procedure done three years ago and had no pain after the first day and recovery was painless. I know this is not normal. We called after the first day and expressed to the nurse that I was in a lot of pain and she excused it by saying they did the best they could. No apology or attempt to resolve it. I had my husband call in for me this morning to see what to do about the pain, and they told us we had to turn in the medicine we already paid for out of pocket JUST to get a new prescription written. Mind you- we already paid over $2,000 out of pocket for the procedure and have 4 kids under the age of 6 that we are having to juggle while I'm recovering and now have to find a way to go back into his office just to find relief from the pain. What in the world does he need with my paid for medication? Horrible experience, horrible customer service. read more

I've been to Austin Smiles exactly twice, and I will never EVER set foot there again. The first time I went was when Dr. McCarty still owned place. I went in for simple recontouring/buffing. I had asked whether the procedure would increase the sensitivity of my teeth, and his exact words were "no, we're going nowhere near your nerves". Immediately after I got home, I ate a bag of chips, and noticed that one of the teeth that was buffed was really sensitive when I bit down on a chip wrong. I didn't think too much of it - not like I can go back and have them UNbuff my tooth, right? Three months later, the same tooth became a lot more sensitive, and I could neither chew nor even brush near the tooth. I went back to Austin Smiles, and this time Dr. Massa was in charge. This is what happened: She greeted me condescendingly with a "when was the last time you had your teeth cleaned?" EXCUSE ME? I was out of the country. I'm not paying for lip from you. Her next sentence was "you definitely have cavities" - this was before she even took an x-ray or examined my whole mouth. She then took an x-ray of the tooth in question and informed me that it was fractured about 80% of the way. Instead of showing me the x-ray, she tried to point it out on the tooth, and then immediately handed me a form to sign to authorize a crown procedure. Oh yeah, she also told me my teeth were probably stained because I drink too much tea. Way to be stereotypical, lady. I don't drink tea. This is the part where I got up and left after paying an outrageous exam fee. I went to a very trusted dentist from my boyfriend's family to get a second opinion. He examined my supposedly fractured tooth with light refraction and found NOTHING. Nada. No fracture. He also did a full mouth exam + cleaning and found NO cavities. He explained that the tooth may have been experiencing some torque/pressure, and the brain was readjusting the nerve's sensitivity. Sure enough, the tooth only hurt for about a week. So my final words are: unless you like being swindled out of your money while damaging your teeth, STAY AWAY FROM AUSTIN SMILES!! update: went to a third dentist who took 4 different x-rays of said tooth. I just had a new patient exam, cleaning, and x-ray appointment with Dr. Miller this morning and can't say enough good things about my experience! Stacy at the front desk is super nice and helpful, Bree the hygienist is sweet and personable, and Dr. Miller has a great personality and made me feel extremely comfortable throughout the visit. I just finished grad school, so dental cleaning hadn't been a priority for me over the past several years, but Dr. Miller was not judgmental at all about my sporadic dental history (which I feel is rare in a dentist). He addressed all of my concerns, was very realistic about what I should expect for the visit, and even took the time to repair a broken piece of my retainer that was driving me crazy! Most importantly, he engaged in a collaborative discussion with me about my treatment plan going forward (permanent retainer removal, custom clear retainers, teeth whitening) instead of just talking AT me and suggesting a ton of expensive procedures -- experiences that I know many people have had with their dentists. I feel fortunate to have found someone like Dr. Miller to help care for my teeth, and actually look forward to my next cleaning!
