Nice atmosphere. Great service. I got a vegetarian burger which was very good and the rest of the family got burgers which they all enjoyed. Our youngest son loves steaks and the 5 stars is because he loved his burger. We also shared an order of French fries which were good. None of us loved the corn but it was still eaten. We normally would have had dessert but we were admittedly too full to order anything else.

Delicious burger. Loved the house soda. I didn't find the restaurant pretentious at all and very clearly labeled which side was pick up and which was dine in. Every component of the burger was delicious. My husband got the fish sandwich which was also good although didn't really showcase the fish. I would get the burger ;) As a side note, those little fried shrimps are meant to be eaten head and legs on. Not for me but my husband loved them.

You know you're in for a treat when chefs behind Noma decided to open up a burger joint and POPL did NOT disappoint. Get the cheeseburger combo with local cola 150 DKK, a side of chili Mayo dipping sauce 15 DKK and pickles 55 DKK. Reservations are highly recommended for the restaurant (they do accept walk ins) however I'd opt for takeout and just sit outside.

Actual rating 4.5. During the COVID pandemic, restaurant noma closed its doors. In order to keep afloat during these times they did the following - 1) prepayment vouchers to be redeemed for future visits and 2) open its doors as a burger + wine bar. So for much of 2020 the restaurant literally just served burgers, wine and beer. Think the boujie version of In-N-Out Burger. The Danes fell absolutely in love with the concept so much that the restaurant got as much visitors in 6 weeks for burgers as it did in 6 years for the restaurant proper. So when noma decided to reopen its doors for its regular menu, the burger spinoff found a permanent space in the neighborhood of Christianshavn. It was given its name "POPL", the Latin word for "community of people", which was its overall goal. Secondly the name also refers to poplar wood, a "nod to our approach and our great respect for nature." Realistically ~150DKK/$25USD burgers can inspire conviviality a lot more as opposed to a ~2800DKK/$450USD tasting menu. Though do keep in mind the sticker shock of eating in CPH, a feature shared when traveling in the Nordic countries. Your choices are either for dine-in or for to go/takeaway - there are more choices for dining in. There are benches by the water for take-away should you wish to eat there BUT the dedicated dining space has more options on the menu, especially when it comes to the side dishes and the alcohol options. -1 star for the lack of communication regarding this. BURGERS - Cheeseburger (Organic beef from free range cattle with red onion and cheddar, 150DKK [~$23USD]). From noma - the organic Danish beef comes from three farms located on the west coast of Denmark by Vadehavet, where the cattle roam and graze freely to enrich the existing wildlife and support the health of the soil. - Vegetarian burger (Fermented quinoa from noma's fermentation lab, same price). The burger is unique that it is made from cooked quinoa that's been inoculated with tempeh spores and left to ferment overnight. Before serving, it is brushed with a glaze of yeast garum, fava bean shoyu and smoked vegan butter. I should have had this in retrospect- not only does it taste better but this is also more signature "noma". - Fries 45DKK/$7USD - Cookie 45DKK/$7USD - dips (herb or chili mayo 10DKK/$2USD) The burger is delicious and filling and as a person who admires a businesses approach to sustainability I love the concept. The fries are also delicious as it maintained its crunchiness to the test of cold weather though I did end up having to dip it in chili mayo. The cookie was also delicious from the few bites I took from it (wish I was able to eat all of it). But being from the US and having traveled in Europe for a while now there have been more memorable burgers and the burger/fries combo has been cheaper than the burger I tried here. BUT this is not to say I don't recommend POPL - I definitely recommend trying this especially if you can't secure a noma reservation due to time/budget constraints.

Nice burger though, and a tasty smash-style gasoline sauce. Good portion on the crispy, crinkle fries (although a tad salty for me) and a unique and refreshing lemonade.

If you enjoy a…read moregreat flat top smash on your meat, I can highly recommend grabbing a bite at a Gasoline Grill. This is a small chain that appears to have a good following in Denmark. It reminds me a bit like In N Out Burgers of California fame. The menu is limited and they try to offer a few things other than burgers but really, if you don't like burgers or are a vegetarian, I'm not sure why you would choose to eat here. For those of us who are solid carnivores, this place is the bomb for a messy, smashed patty style burger. Did I mention messy? These are juice dripping down your chin kind of messy from a combination of velvety beef fat mixed with burger sauce (Gasoline Grill's version of thousand island dressing). They top their burgers with cheese if you want it, some red onion and a few sweet, crinkle cut pickles all surrounded by a soft brioche style bun. Simple but deeply satisfying. Their fries are institutionally frozen crinkle cuts, fried and hand salted before bagging. They are good but definitely play distant second to their burgers. The downsides here are they are limited on service and on places to eat. This location at 1:30pm had 2 cooks and a cashier promoting a lineup out the door. At one point I watched 1 cook make their own lunch and leave for the back room to eat and the cashier was in and out of the back trying to eat as well in between taking orders. That left 1 poor guy manning the entire kitchen with lots of customers waiting. I suppose that they can get away with it because no one in the line left but it makes for a really inefficient and long wait for lunch. The other issue is that there is absolutely nowhere to sit and eat. There is a narrow shelf like counter on one wall of the restaurant that can accommodate maybe 8 or 10 people standing shoulder to shoulder sardine style eating while facing the wall. No seats outside and this particular location really has nowhere close that would be appropriate to sit and enjoy lunch so there were people who were eating while sitting on the curb, or using the stone wall across the street by a set of bike racks to lay their lunch on. Again, it seems to work as nobody left because of it, but it is a really inconvenient way to try to eat a fairy messy burger and a bad look for the neighborhood. Would it kill them to put a few small tables and chairs around? It seemed like all the locals were very happy so maybe this is just my elitist American entitlement showing through as a bias. Finally, the prices here are not cheap. I think everything in Denmark is not cheap but really this is simply a cheeseburger and fries. I added a beer to that and my lunch was about US$29! For that money, the food was simple and the environment was not great since you had to eat in a rush standing up and then clear out. It probably works better late at night if you are drunk and don't care, but for the majority of people trying to grab lunch during a workday, this would not rank high on my list of places to go unless you were really dying for a great cheeseburger. Four stars for the burger and three stars for everything else. That gets them overall 3.5 stars, but since I can't give them half a star, I will round them up. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed what I had here and recommend it for a great smash burger if you are not on a budget.

I'm from the US and would call it the same as In n Out or Shake Shack- It's genuinely the same thing but if you add on tik tok glaze apparently that costs you an extra five bucks. it's fine but just get a hot dog on the street for a third of the price... you get the same result: good but not great. Service WAS GREAT though, cannot knock them on that. Unfortunately it's just an American meal made by non-Americans, save your money.

Ranked as the 6th best burger in the world by Food and Wine magazine in 2024 ("Organic beef…read morecheeseburger with onions, pickles, and a house Gasoline Sauce. $16 "), the Gasoline Grill hamburger restaurant has multiple locations throughout Denmark. It's one of those things where I was glad I stopped by, but didn't really experience anything with the food or ambiance that would make me recommend this as a out-of-the way stop that the ranking would seem to suggest. This one is the original, using the station building as a walk-up window with the kitchen inside. They have a few picnic tables on the side for outdoor dining, and I do think that it's important to eat the burger as soon as possible. The interesting thing is that it is still a working gas station, with an island with multiple pumps dispensing petrol (which I didn't see being used during my wait) and some electric charging stations (which was actively being used). I was able to place my order (nothing customized, just wanted exactly as they described after about a 10 minute wait, got my lemonade right away, and waited another 10 minutes to get my food (everything is made-to-order). The cheeseburger was 110 DKK, fries was 40, lemonade was 35, and dipping sauce was 10 with 10 off for being a combo. So total was 185 DKK (about $28.88 in USD). The process and food reminded me very much of a Shake Shack, with the young workers working together to produce well-made smashburgers using great ingredients. The color scheme reminds me of a Wingstop, though. I squeezed between a couple of single diners and dug in. The burger was good, with that loose smash burger quality. It came with a mayo based thousand island like sauce (their gasoline sauce), and had tomato, pickles, red onion slices, and a gooey, plentiful cheese. The lemonade was good, and the hint of elderflower made it memorable. The crinkle fries were good, well done fried which I appreciate. Ate the meal fast before my hands started to freeze up, tossed the remains in the gas station islands garbage bin and was on my way. I really do think a food like this is all about where you eat it...if on an airplane, or at a ballpark, or at the beach...yeah, I could see the appeal. But at a gas station in freezing weather on a picnic table...not so much.
