When you walk in, it feels like you just stepped into a time capsule where calories do not count and everybody knows how to properly pronounce "slaw." The ambience absolutely screams old school BBQ joint. Wood paneling. No nonsense tables. The kind of place where you half expect your uncle to be in the corner arguing about college football. Now let's talk food, because that is why we're here. The pulled chicken? Outstanding. Tender, juicy, packed with flavor. It showed up ready to win. If it ran for office, I would vote for it. That chicken understood the assignment. The BBQ chicken had that beautiful crisped skin that makes you lean in like, "Oh yeah, this is about to be serious." But then it hit the plate a little under seasoned. The sauce was on the thinner side too. Not bad, just more "light drizzle at a picnic" than "bold backyard pitmaster energy." And let me take a moment to publicly thank the potato salad. Special shout out. Creamy, balanced, and clearly made by somebody's grandmother who does not measure anything and does not need to. All in all, Johnny's is a solid four stars. Historic, nostalgic, and when they hit, they really hit. I'll be back, mostly for that pulled chicken and potato salad combo that had me considering a second plate and a nap.

It was really tender, with no fat, and served on a toasted roll. The Hot Cheddar Pasta is a variation on Mac and Cheese but so much better. It looked like ziti-style noodles with lots of cheddar cheese. Both were excellent choices and I highly recommend. My girlfriend liked her Veggie Quesadilla with shrimp too but had to take half of it to go. The front counter folks did provide a takeout box. It is a little pricey compared to fast food restaurants but the quality is very good and worth it. The price for both our meals with drinks was around $40. Two of my kids got chicken fingers and fries, adding cheese and bacon, while the other got fries and hash brown casserole. My wife and niece got the Grandma's sampler platters. I got the chicken fried chicken with three sides. Mashed potatoes, hash brown casserole, and fried okra! Everyone loved their food and left stuffed with some leftovers. Until tonight when I had the displeasure to have to deal with Miranda who states she is the manager and says she has been for a year. Miranda says the $2 up charge for specialty pizza is not a real coupon and was more interested in arguing than listening to what I was trying to say. I asked Miranda for the name of her supervisor and she refused to give it, stating again that she is the manager. If she is the manager I wonder if she is aware that she is being replaced....(see job posting for the job she says she has). I would have just ordered online but the app doesn't allow me to select delivery for my location...even though they deliver here all the time.
