Pop Over Eatery is a breakfast/lunch spot and they have two locations, one in Mystic and one in Simsbury. I've read reviews for this place and was excited to try it out. It's located in the Simsburytown Shops; it's a busy parking lot with limited parking, but we were able to snag a spot. The place was busy at lunch on a Monday. We spoke to the hostess and she said about a 10-15 minute wait, which was correct and fine with us. They had high chairs which was a plus. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I enjoyed the bright and colorful decor. I started off with a butter latte which you guessed it, had butter in it; it was delicious, I ordered it hot since the waitress said it might not fully melt if it's iced, I appreciated the tip. Their menu was vast and had so many good and unique options to choose from. I decided to try out their French toast BLT; it had an egg, applewood bacon, lettuce, tomato, maple mayo, and cinnamon brioche French toast. This came with a side of syrup but I didn't need it. The sandwich was unique and pretty good; I just wished it came with a side like fries or hash browns. There were a few other menu items I wanted to try out as well. At the end, the receipt was dropped off; I liked that we can pay by scanning the QR code on the receipt.
I really love Pop Over Eatery. I love that they have so many amazing Gluten Free bakery items. The atmosphere is super cute to eat in. It's not so loud that you can't hear your companions. Today I opted for a take out brunch to start my week (after a very fun Super Bowl night). I ordered the Corned Beef Hash Plate with a GF English muffin. My breakfast was delicious! Nice sized portion for this starving girl. :) Go ahead and give Pop Over's a try. If today wasn't a lower carb day for me (specific training program), I would have gotten a popover as they are delicious with their honey butter.
Sunday morning around 9:30, we drove by and my wife convinced me to get some grub. She's been here a couple times but it was a first for me. Stuffed popovers for breakfast is a concept I agreed to try. Staff were very friendly and they all seemed excited and happy about their jobs. We waited about 20 minutes which was fine. Service was prompt and friendly. My wife got a basic and huge popover with jam and flavored butter. I got the stuffed popover with scrambled eggs, real corned beef and potatoes. It was an Irish something dish. We also got crunchy fried potatoes as a side which actually was totally unnecessary but delicious. I only said unnecessary because we couldn't finish them and brought them home. My popover was literally stuffed and was an absolute beast of a meal. It was good, and I admit I couldn't finish it. There's a ton of other things on the menu which would motivate me to come back. They offer some breakfast sandwiches and meals without any popovers. Watching food items getting delivered around our table was interesting. They don't take reservations but you get on the list and can wait in the entrance area which can get a little packed along with people who get take out too. They text you when your table is ready so many people sat in their cars (I assume). Some also stayed outside which brings me to my ONLY and petty constructive criticism of this restaurant. We were there on a fairly enjoyable but yet cooler morning. The door swings open and closed copious amounts due to people picking up takeout orders, people wanting to sit inside, people who get their names on the list and then go sit in their cars, therefore there's always a cool breeze and soon to be a cold breeze within the restaurant when winter arrives. We sat towards the back of the restaurant near the kitchen and our food got cool quicker than we anticipated. So this winter, eat fast and bundle up because that door is always swinging open. It's not the end of the world for us, we will go back, and maybe during the winter they might turn some heat on but stop over for some awesome popovers. You won't regret it.
Was looking for a place that made pop over breakfast meals and I was extremely satisfied in finding this place The food was amazing and perfectly cooked the vegetables were fresh and the corn beef was amazing it was a good portion of food, filling, the popover I had on the side with their warm honey cinnamon brown sugar butter
This was my first time dining in even though I have had their food through catering. I didn't realize they served brunch all day so I'd definitely make the trip again since brunches are my favorite. We went at 9a on a Sunday and I called ahead to find out if there was any wait, which was none. It was steady through out our dining experience. The staff are really nice and I love the colors they have going on inside and outside. I learned the small little patio outside the front door, although more intimate is only for take out guests. There is outdoor seating with patio umbrellas on the side. The food is really good. That Skillet Shakshuka was worth it! I wish I had more bread though, that got gobbled up. The only thing to note was that my friend's classic Benny was brought out incomplete without the bearnaise sauce. She didn't actually notice it was lacking until it was brought over. At least that was rectified. I didn't partake in any lattes or coffee, though I was told it's really good. I suppose I will have to add that on my next visit!
How is it that I haven't reviewed this place yet?? This is my absolute favorite breakfast spot and probably the only place I'm willing to wait over 30min to be seated coz it's worth it. If (like me) you don't know what popovers are, it's a light roll made from an egg batter similar to a Yorkshire pudding, typically baked in dedicated popover pans. Don't be alarmed by the huge size it's almost all air or hollow inside and eggy on the walls. Drizzle that with warm clarified butter and maple syrup... voilà !! Yum!! There are so many variations of what you can top a popover with on the menu. I've had the veggie and Nutella versions of it.. both really good!! I love how innovative and creative they are with the food plus the menu offers a large variety of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options.
If you're in Simsbury for only one day, you have got to have breakfast or lunch at Popover. Yes, it's that good. Also, if what you order doesn't come with a, "popover", be sure to add one to your. Don't worry about the extra carbs, it will be worth it. I was in Simsbury for fa wedding and after being picked up at the airport, my BFF and mother of the bride took me to Popover for lunch. The weather was super nice, so we ate out on the patio. It was a July wedding, I'm just behind on vacation reviews. We had a light lunch, I enjoyed one of their multiple Avocado Toast selections and the brides mother had a salad. We joked with each other that she had a mother of the bride dress to fit in. Our beverage of choice was the famous lemonade that they serve. Day of the wedding I had lots of free time to myself. Since Popover was a short walk from my hotel, I took the stroll and enjoyed an amazing breakfast. I may have been in the Northeast, but I had to order the, Southerner. I am a big fan of, Chicken and Waffles and that is exactly what the Southerner was. They serve up a huge waffle with crispy chicken tenders on top. My waffle had a lightly crisp outside with a fluffy inside and the tenders coating was super crisp and the breast meat inside was tender and juicy. My morning beverage was a Honey Lavender Latte. I'm a sucker for honey, so it was a perfect choice. Both times the staff was super friendly and professional. I give Popover, two thumbs up.
The Pop Over Eatery in Simsbury is so eye catchingly beautiful with its painted pumpkins all over the front door! I stepped inside and was immediately greeted by not one, but two of their staff members. I tried to select something of the menu posted on the wall, there was a lot of good stuff. The friendly young man brought me to a seat and gave me a print out of the menus. They have so many seasonal coffee drinks, as well as cocktails. I got the pumpkin spice cold brew. There are so, so many tasty breakfast and lunch options available! The waffles are endless and the French toast, yum! I went with the Funky Monkey Bowl. This is Greek yogurt with bananas, granola and peanut butter. I'm trying to watch my carb intake, this is why I went with this bowl. It came beautifully presented in a bowl, with swirls of peanut butter across. My coffee also arrived beautifully presented, in a mason jar mug, with cold pumpkin foam on top. I was seated next to the beautiful, colorful mural. They also have plenty of outdoor seating. This was such a tasty breakfast! The bananas are so fresh, and combined with the granola and the peanut butter... so good! There was plenty of Greek yogurt! This was a filling and nutritious breakfast. My pumpkin spice cold brew was also so tasty! I could taste the cinnamon and the pumpkin flavor. This was perfect for a warm fall, late morning. I had such a wonderful first experience at Pop Over Eatery! The space is beautiful, inside and out, their staff are super friendly and their menu will leave your mouth watering! I cannot wait to return!

Popover bistro is the perfect spot for all things brunch/lunch. With light fares for when you just need a little pick me up to filling options like sandwiches, eggs, salads, waffles, etc, you will 100% find what you need here. My go order to is the Chia Oat pudding, a warm popover with honey butter and an iced oat milk latte (but you can't go wrong with any of their options). The waitstaff here are so kind and helpful- answering any questions we had and abiding by our dietary restrictions as requested. They even brought out bacon and a bowl of water for my dog!! Overall, popover bistro is the cutest local cafe that I cannot recommend enough! read more

It's 5 hours later and I'm still full... no regrets! Popover Bistro came recommended to us by a friend and we love all things brunch and breakfast so we definitely wanted to give it a try. It was definitely busy when we arrived but we didn't have to wait at all. I like how they have tables and a long bench on the opposite to sit in. Being a bigger girl I enjoy not feeling like I'm squished and inconveniencing those walking behind me. They have a pretty straightforward menu popovers, breakfast bowls, breakfast sandwiches, speciality drinks/coffees, a case of pastries and cakes. My husband went with the Irish popover and I went with one of the breakfast bowls. Both were delicious and we both tried a little of each others. Also had the green monster smoothie which was very refreshing. We'll definitely come back. read more

It's probably been a year or two since my last visit. And today I quickly remembered why they're one of the best breakfast spots. They have plenty of menu options that can accommodate most dietary needs, and of course delicious baked goods. The staff is always warm and inviting. And the atmosphere is laid back and cozy. I love this place! Always busy servers always hustling! Very fun vibe and soooo many yummy choices. I always get the classic pop which is a cheese lovers delight! Perfectly cooked eggs with three kinds of cheeses and a yummy delicious pop over. Always good! My son got the cheddar or scallion biscuit with ham and egg the biscuit was cooked perfectly! I can't wait until Popover opens again in March! The giant popover that I had in January was so good! It came with honey butter and blueberry jam. I had no idea that popovers were so light and delicious. Popovers are particularly popular in New England cities. Like Yorkshire pudding, the batter is made from a simple combination of flour, salt, eggs, milk and butter. Popovers have been around since the year 1850 and now 170+ years later, I see why. Salads, sandwiches, wraps and hot bowls are all on the menu at Popover. Parking is a breeze too with a nice sized lot. Pam, the owner, really does such a great job. Staff is friendly and polite. Can't wait to head back and update with more from the menu. Stay tuned :) read more

We took the drive to try something new and different for breakfast while in Hartford, CT. My sister found Popover on Yelp, so we decided to trusted the rating--we all went for it! I was quite curious and then awestruck by the black rice porridge! Warm black rice, coconut milk, maple syrup, strawberries, and coconut? I got a bowl and four spoons for us to try the dish--what a keeper (I'm going to copy that; sorry but not sorry)! I had the Harvest Pop, my sister had the Protein Pop, and our college students had the French Toast BLT. I also order the white chocolate chip scone for later. Now to the few disappoints: a popover the browner than my skin--burnt even, the BLTs did not come with maple mayo...upon asking for it, it tasted like honey mustard, and the pumpkin chipped cookies we awfully gritty. The stars are for the friendly staff, that porridge, my scone, and the overall hot food (minus my popover). I'd go back...! read more

Pistachio rose latte was delicious. That is the best thing I had here. Shakshuka was good. It was spicy, as well as very tangy. Pop over is a rich and buttery bread. It has similarity to croissant, though not flaky. Irish pop was very bland. But it had a rich buttery taste. Chocolate almond marble cake was nice as well. read more
A popover a day keeps the doctor away...right? Well even if it doesn't, it would keep me happy! Especially if it's from Popover Bistro & Bakery in Simsbury, CT. I've been meaning to try this place for years and it's safe to say it's going to be a regular spot for me! I was surprised by the diversity of their menu and how many gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options they had I personally got turkey sausage and goat cheese in my stuffed popover, but my friend really appreciated all the dietary restrictive options and got an all veggie popover We also got the chia pudding to split and it was so delicious! I went on my day off yesterday so we got to post up for a few hours, talk to the staff, really sit back and enjoy it. I highly suggest you do the same! So on my furlough day my daughter was nice enough to order breakfast for the three of us from Popovers. She used one of the popular delivery services. Really loved this spot. I went with a friend for breakfast but after looking at the menu we decided to order lunch. Both of us loved our plates. Generous portion. I ordered my steak well done and it was cooked perfectly and still moist. Cute décor inside. Nice little outdoor eating area outside. Service was friendly. Awesome shop for breakfast or lunch. Heard about this from a yelp elite event in the winter so knew I had to try it out when visiting Simsbury. Veggie popover very flavorful and filling. Also got k pop, which allows you to enjoy the popover itself. Wish they sold some separately (without fillings) and with flavors like cinnamon sugar or a savory one cones to mind. Also got waffle and home fries. Delicious. Coffees are yummy too I got the dirty chai latte. Not many places make it good but this one was great. Always in the area, but have never tried this cute little place. Very streamlined and clean inside. They also have outdoor seating. Like the restaurant name says "Popovers" are pretty popular here! Quite delicious with anything at anytime of the day too. I had the 3 cheese "grilled cheese" popover. It was fantastic. My companion had the fried chicken sandwich on a popover that came with a lovely side salad. We shared a side of delicious and perfectly cooked sweet potato fries. They have an interesting drink menu as well, I had the hot dirty chai latte. Quite good! Staff are very friendly and the environment inside was very pleasant. Stopped by here during a road trip to satisfy filling brunch needs. Large parking lot that was half-converted to outdoor seating during the pandemic. Saturday mornings thankfully still table space left as a group left before we arrived. Menu has all sorts of tempting options from large appetizers, to baked goods, to wraps/sandwiches. Decided on the Buffalo Cauliflower ($10) to start - a significant serving of grilled un-breaded cauliflower smothered in buffalo sauce. Simple and satisfying, probably overkill as an app before a meal. Thankfully my entree, the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese ($14), was a manageable size. Well toasted, pressed sandwich with a layering of meat and cheese. Pretty good meal served with some chips (these could have been salted more). To wash it all down, got one of their canned beers ($7) available. Everything is cleaned well and the servers were wearing masks throughout. Overall good food depending on what you get. read more

I was very excited to give this place a try when visiting! I am generously giving a 3 star because they have an adorable space, farm to table ingredients and delicious food. The service is mediocre and SLOW! We were sat at the communal table with 3 other 2 person parties, which was no problem. Since we were all sat and ordered at the same time, you would be amazed at the various times it took to get food out. I ordered a smoothie that never came, yet 4 others around me got theirs. The 2 women on the end got salads, which took about 30 min to get. Next, came the 2 skillet meals next to me about 10 min later. On our other side, a young girl was telling her daddy she was soooo hungry! All they ordered was nutella french toast and a eggs benedict. She was so full from her smoothie, she didn't eat much. Finally, we had to a random busboy walking by if he had seen our server. It had now been an hour since ordering and everyone else at the table was almost done eating. Finally, my avocado toast and my husbands salmon popover meal came! Toast with avocado spread onto it with tomatoes and 1 over easy egg never takes 1 hour to make. I was very disappointed. Maybe order a smoothie while you wait to be seated. Then be prepared to order immediately! They didn't appear short staffed, so I imagine it must have been an issue with kitchen staffing? read more

This was my second time trying this place while visiting my friend in CT. It's a cute spot that gets busy quickly especially on the weekend. We walked in and had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table of 3 on a Saturday morning. We all enjoyed our dishes their pop overs are their specialty but you must try their other dishes. My daughter appreciated the vegan options. Had their pumpkin cake and ended up buying a slice to go. Will definitely return when I'm back in the area. read more

So so good. This was my second time visiting the cafe, this time for my birthday. I'd recommend calling the day before for reservations because it fills up quickly. The server had a great personality and very attentive despite the busy morning. I ordered the chicken and waffles (all gluten free) and my brunch mates ordered the pop overs. I was concerned I wouldn't have enough to eat but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the plates come out. I wish there were gluten free pop overs but sadly, there are not. Either way this place is a gem. Definitely worth the drive from central CT. read more

Popovers are fantastic! We thought we were just going to "pop in" (get it?) for a to-go coffee and breakfast sandwich but once we got inside we decided it was worth it to stay. The menu was very creative and everything looked delectable. I had to ask the server for recommendations and me they said their corned beef was very good so I opted for a dish with that. It was St Patrick's Day so I also ordered a soda bread scone. The corned beef over popover was so much food I had to take the scone home, but it was delicious. My friend ordered what was essentially chicken and waffles (but called something Southern) and she said it was very good as well. Overall great experience, so glad we stopped in! read more
