This is the best Gym I have ever been a member of. In fact, it's the best YMCA that I have ever been a member of. They have the best staff here. I mean everyone of the staff I met that work here, was always nice and friendly. I never had a problem coming here. They would also help you too if you needed it. I hope the next gym I join is just as nice as this one. Most of the time, as soon as you walk in, you give them your card, they check you in, and ask you if you need a locker and/or towel. Then, I usually go to the treadmill. Their treadmills are so advanced that you can watch TV on them while exercising. Next, I usually take a shower. Then, I hook up to their WiFi and check my email using my Laptop. It's a pretty cool place. I always liked coming here. read more

I have been to YMCA for the gym and the pool. The gym is small and the equipment is close to each other. They do still have a wide range of equipment. The free weight area is very small - maybe 2-3 benches & minimal mirror space. They do have a wide range of free weights. The pool is nice. They have a slide. They have different sections of the pool. During the right time of day it is nicely shaded by the trees. The service is dependent on who you get. You have a great experience or an "alright" experience. Is this a facility that deals with a wide range of age - which is great in most cases. I did have on experience that was no pleasant in my opinion. I asked the front desk "Where is the women's locker room?" The guy followed that question with "How old are you? *laughs* 17?" I replied with "I am 20 years old & where is the women's locker room?" I feel like that was a rude & condescending comment. I asked where the women's locker room is. Not to be laughed at and assumed to be under 18. I think laughing at me and assuming I was under age was unnecessary. Instead if he thought I was underage he could have just said the women's locker room is .... and we also have a girls locker room here ... But for the most part this is a nice family friendly place! read more

I just joined the YMCA and I like it. They offer a walking track, basketball courts, personal training, various fitness classes, a pool, and your typical gym equipment. There's something for everyone to do. I like that they offer drinking fountains to fill up your water bottles, lockers, very clean bathrooms, changing rooms, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are quite a few kids under 18 using the fitness equipment and playing on the walking track. If you are looking for an adult environment, this is not your place. read more

Jordan's (male) customer service can be a lot better. Very rude during our call and he hung up abruptly. Effective listening was not there.

The pool was clean and there was a lifeguard always on duty which made me feel comfortable. They also have a pool for the little ones as well. The inside is clean and they provide great customer service read more

I joined Poole Family YMCA about a half a year ago, and I love everything about this Y. If you get a membership at any YMCA (i.e. your "home" YMCA), you can visit other YMCAs without any extra fees. So I've been trying to take advantage of that and visit different Y whenever I feel like I want something different that day. But I found myself coming back to Poole Family YMCA *every*single*time! First, all the staff members are super friendly and make me feel welcome. The atmosphere I feel when I work out from is very *family*. I don't feel intimidated or too close to people at Poole. But I felt like that at other Y locations. Second, bathrooms and lockers rooms are so clean and make me want to come back. I especially love the basket we have in the women's locker room for small shampoo and conditioner in case you forget to bring. Third, I enjoy the gym classes that are offered at Poole. I wish there are some cooler classes like Pilates, Barre, etc. However, I get my workout completed with what's offered at Poole. And if I really want to go to a cool workout class, I can simply visit another Y in the area. No biggie! I recommend this Y 10/10. I truly enjoy going to gym now :) read more

Suggestion: turn treadmills facing the windows and remove the frosting on the glass so you can look out as you are working out. It would make the treadmill workouts more interesting than watching other people work out. Weekend hours need to be extended! People have more availability on the weekend than during the week! read more

Y has been getting more crowded over the last couple of years and they keep raising prices. This used to be good quality for the money but now might as well go to planet fitness since both are gonna be crowded. At least planet fitness isn't as expensive. read more

Brand new YMCA in Garner! I love coming to this Y as all the appliances are brand new and the staff is super nice and attentive. The Y has pretty much everything that you would expect at any other Y, even being smaller than for example the one on Hillsborough St. But it is very well planned, the child care rooms are very lovely decorated and all the cardio appliances have a display integrated where you can watch tv or log in to your social media/Netflix etc. Accounts. This Y also offers classes in their different studios. On the lower level you can find the locker rooms with showers and a sauna and steam room. My absolute highlight of this gym is the outdoor pool! The pool has a regular swimming pool with a fun slide on the side and a pool for kids/toddlers. The only improvement I see in here is that they should add some small lockers to the pool area as you are not able to lock your things away and most importantly to add some showers. I understand that this could be costly but an improvement could be to make the door to the lower level of the Y where the locker rooms are accessible from the pool area. Maybe the worker checking access to the pool could also be responsible for this access. It is very inconvenient to change after being in the pool if you want to take a shower as you have to walk around the complex to the main entrance, check in and walk all the stairs down. It is odd to get fully dressed to walk around but also very odd to walk into the Y in your bathing suit, in a towel or half wet. But other than that, great gym with plenty of parking available. read more

This is a relatively new YMCA. Everything is very clean and well kept. The staff is wonderful. The pool just opened and it looks great too. Let go of your other gym membership and get to the Y! I love it. read more

Long time Y members (10+ years), supported them during Covid shut down. Always went to Alexander and Poyner before this, very excited to have a Garner Y walking distance. The place is just not the same vibe as other Ys, hours constantly changing, floors and gym equipment very dirty (tumbling hair, filthy, dusty, debris falls on you when you do the free weights), some equipment broken or making noise. Some of the front desk staff and instructors are great and so friendly (shout out Sparkles), but we had an experience with pool lifeguards literally yelling that they were going to call the police on us because we didn't leave the pool 15 minutes before closing. This was after the posted time of closing was an hour later on their website. We are literally old Moms tryna get wet for 10 minutes on the 4th of July during your business hours, calm down. Who's training these kids? I think some more thought needs to go into this by upper management about courtesy to members attitude, better cleaning protocols, and their business hours being consistently updated on the app. read more

I was a fan of this place until one of the staff members working in the weights section was incredibly rude to me. Then I came to the realization that most of the staff isn't very friendly, only a few are. Also, no one wipes down the equipment. Needs to be thoroughly enforced. read more
