The workers are friendly and helpful, and the facility has a lot to offer. The aquatics center in particular is fantastic, the depth of the pool at it's deepest is 11 ft, and at the shallowest is 4 ft. For members there are times during the week and on the weekend for "kids swim" so that all members of the family can join! The basketball courts were recently redone this past year (2014) so that NC State's team could practice there for a few months, so they are really fantastic to play on. All and all I have had a great experience with this gym, it is very popular among students and almost never too crowded to break a good sweat. Definitely check it out! Even if you're not a member I believe the price for a day-pass is $10 which is pretty reasonable!

I lived off campus, so I always went home straight after my classes and omg when I found out about Carmichael's classes and facilities, I was like "Man, I was missing out the whole time!!". Couple of my friends started going to the gym and they dragged my ass one day and that's how I found about Carmichael's classes. I get bored super quick if I have to workout by myself, but I can take classes over and over as long as there are some people around me. My favorite classes are body pump and cardio dance. Becca and Jenna are my fav teachers and all of teachers are really nice. They motivate you throughout the entire class and I'm telling you, these classes? phew! a great workout! You may think that meh, school classes.. but I think classes that they offer here are the best & most fun classes I've taken in the Triangle by far. Reasonable price for member, lots of classes you can take and I love their facilities(omg you should see their treadmills! you can watch Netflix, do your SNS, watch TV, and so much more!!!). Also, they offer lots of fun events every Friday called Happy Hour! If you have a family member who goes to NCSU, I def recommend you to try them out!

The employee that I interacted with was helpful in helping me get signed up for a week trial membership. But I wasn't given a tour of the facility. I got invited to check out Courtney B's Zumba class on this day so I didn't get to utilize the gym equipment or any other amenities. I did utilize a free locker to store my items. Courtney's class was great. It was very high energy and a great workout! I could tell that Courtney enjoys teaching. This YMCA location has a pool, free weights, and resistance equipment on the two levels of the business. I wish that I could have checked out other classes and amenities during that week but I lost a couple of days due to the snow storm.

I live right smack dab between Knightdale and Wakefield so that that gives me double the options. I've only seen Wakefield and Knightdale and there are subtle differences. Knightdale is newer so things seem a bit "shinier", still. The locker combination system is different so if you get used to one, you'll lock yourself out at the other. Knightdale doesn't seem as crowded. The Hot Tub is smaller but I think the lap pool is larger. The Knightdale club has more "scenery" outside the windows -- you see trees instead of offices which is pleasant. Both offer a wide variety of classes and both are clean with attentive staff (though again, the nod goes to Knightdale for having a truly welcoming front desk person and very helpful in showing a new member around).. WHEN you lock yourself out of your locker, they respond promptly rather than making sit and drip for 10 minutes and you can call from the locker room rather than having to wander out in your bathing suit! I suspect that I will use Knightdale more than Wakefield just because it seems better run and more pleasant setting. Both are (for me) a huge step up from the Y because you don't have kids running around the pool area or having to get kicked out of the pool for make up toddler swim lessons. As opposed to the Y which is much more family oriented, Rex is more more oriented towards those of us who are a bit "long of tooth" and are just trying to keep our mobility so we aren't having to use a scooter to ride around the grocery store. If your thing is to go watch the gym bunnies in their lycra, you'll likely be VERY disappointed in the scenery here. But that's ok because I feel comfortable knowing I'm not the only one that is a middle-aged mom with the stretch marks to prove it and I just want a pleasant welcoming place to get away from the daily grind, improve my health and de-stress.

They've gone above and beyond to ensure that they provide a safe and clean place! This is my first time working out with a format like this! You are put through 5 different workouts that's perfectly timed, based on what the focus of the day is Momentum, Anaerobic and Durability. You are walked through the proper form for each exercise then you identify the level you wish to rotate through. I'm not the fittest but I'm working on it and so right now, I'm using the lightest weights but I can definitely work my way up. The workout is tough and you push and work! MADabolic is great! I've taken classes so far with Emily, Sarah and Alli so far and everybody is…read morereally friendly and willing to help out with anything you might need. There's generally 3 different types of classes at MADabolic - Momentum/Anaerobic/Durability which just have a different work to rest ratio. As much as people like throwing out the phrase HIIT, MADabolic is the gym I've found that actually does the closest to applying this. Also, a unique thing about MADabolic is that it incorporates boxing into their workouts so make sure you bring boxing gloves. It's definitely a nice change of pace to be able to hit a bag once in a while. My one complaint if any is that the description of the classes leads you to believe that it goes 50 minutes but sometimes you can be in and out of there a lot quicker than that (35-40 minutes). But the workouts are tough so it feels like you were there for a lot longer! Just a nit pik thing for people who would really care. Also will note that unlike other class-based gyms where you can sort of drop in as you like and it won't make that big of a difference, MADabolic is mostly set up for you to go consistently (I think 4-5x a week is what's recommended?) I only go to MADabolic once a month because I mostly run/cycle and go to another gym near my house and use MADabolic as something to switch up the routine once in a while. If you're looking for consistent results, you probably should go more often than I do haha. Otherwise, I've enjoyed MADabolic and you should check it out if you're around downtown Raleigh!
