We couldn't do without Phyllis and Pooch & Kitty! We have started to work with Phyllis when our first dog Ferdinand was 8 months old. Ferdinand is a rescue dog, who was shy and scared of loud noises when we got him. He's now over 2 years old, a playful little dog, ready to walk (most of the time) and to have fun with other dogs. As much as I'd like to take credit for his progress, I think Phyllis have much more to do with it. Phyllis is a great dog walker. She never stopped working during the Pandemic, always mindful to tend to her pet friends while protecting herself and families. Making sure Ferdie had his daily walk with her was a life saver in the middle of homeschooling and remote working. Phyllis' love for animals is obvious. She helped us get Ferdie ready to walk with other dogs, always leaves detailed feedback if Ferdie is more anxious than usual. She also was a great support as we welcomed our third son back home last year, advising us on how to behave with Ferdie, and sharing some very helpful kid friendly videos for my two older kids so they learn to play safely with Ferdie. Ferdie is now very well adjusted to our family, and us to him. We feel very fortunate to have found Pooch and Kitty to help us transition from a family with two children and no pets, to a family of three children and a dog. read more

Hi Yelpers- This review is long overdue, but should be helpful to pet owners looking for care. Thanks to Pooch and Kitty for their services for nearly 10 years. My story starts with trying to find a cat sitter as I was travelling more a few times a year (domestic and foreign - as far as New Zealand), and my new cat (Sweet Pea, a Manx breed shelter cat) needed a friendly face every day while away. I tried a couple of services, but had very unprofessional experiences that made my home feel unsafe. Had to change the locks on the 2nd one- so weird. So now, on to the good news. I found Pooch and Kitty. The owner, Phyllis Klein is caring and highly professional. The intro is professional, chill, and started with an opportunity for the potential sitter to meet you and your pet, so that both parties are comfortable, and gave me the moment to communicate any building rules. Great. I have felt so happy and safe with the 2 sitters I had over the years. Thank you Serra, and most importantly, thank you Bonnie. Bonnie gave great daily updates (as I traveled the most during her time). Her recent observation on his eating led me to immediately decide that maybe he needs a random vet check in addition to the regular. He ultimately had lymphoma and I lost him months later. But if not for her simple observations communicated in the daily updates, I would not have noticed as quickly (the lack of separation during quarantine made it harder to notice small changes). As a result, I had more time than I would have, while treating his illness. Sweet Pea had caring friends with Pooch and Kitty. And I have all Bonnie's hilarious video updates, sometimes with silly filters which I loved! This is a great service that I recommend. They are lovely, and should be part of your pet sitting needs. The kind words from Phyllis and Bonnie after I let them know he didn't make it were comforting. Should I be fortunate to be a cat owner again, I will continue to be a client. Pooch and Kitty has been a godsend for the last 8 years. Phyllis watched my monsters personally for the first few years and Bonnie has watched them for the last several, even after I moved a bit further away. I hate leaving them, but I know they're loved and snuggled while I'm away. The best part is getting a cute photo or video showing them getting tons of attention. There was a fire in my building last year while I was overseas and Bonnie rushed to my apartment to find my frightened little guys. She took wonderful care of them until I could find my way home and kept me updated and a lot calmer than I would have been otherwise. I used to have a friend come by and feed my cat. Then one day she wasn't available, so I panicked searched for someone to take care of my scaredy cat. Luck was with me! Pooch and Kitty not only took great care of my cat, but my cat came out and interacted with the cat sitter! He is not a people cat and always hides when strangers come around. However last month I had a few longer and unexpected trips and didn't want to have to worry about coordinating things. I was relieved when Pooch and Kitty was able to provide pet sitting in my area of Manhattan. In my experience they were organized and provided a thorough outline of information they needed and how the service operated. Will and I met a few days before I left so he could meet my cat and get my keys. Giving medication in food was included in the base service price, which was a relief for me. While I was away he sent me regular updates about how things were going, including a few photos of my cat. Furthermore, Pooch and Kitty (Will again) was available a week later when a medical emergency required me to leave town unexpectedly. Leaving your pet for an extended period of time always makes you feel guilty and worried. But Shannon proactively sent detailed updates with photos most every day that conveyed a sincere affection for Wyly Bo. Instead of feeling like just some cat sitter was checking in on him, it honestly felt like a friend was watching him, which makes a huge difference. We have used Pooch and Kitty a few times now and absolutely love Deb who takes care of our beloved kitten. However, we did get flack for a payment issue in which we made an honest mistake and were meant to feel like we were trying to cheat the owner out of money. After prompt responses back to emails, we were told the money was needed immediately and to therefore pay with paypal or cash can be picked up. Not sure why such the urgency but definitely did not leave a good taste in our mouths and will try other services. read more

She did a great job of pacifying my type-A overprotective kitty mom concerns and It was a pleasure and a relief to know they were in the competent hands of an attentive cat-lover. Jada updated me with emails to let me know they were doing well (with particular attention to how each individual cat was faring) and I came home to two cats who were in better spirits than they ever had been after we'd been apart for a length of time. When I planned on hiring a housesitter for my two doggies, Rocky & Rosie, for 4 nights I had no idea there would be a hurricane heading for NYC. However, Phyllis sent Eleanor, who not only was available if my flight was diverted, but we were texting out of the country with contingency plans to take my car and dogs to a safe place if there was a mandatory evacuation. Obviously this is not what you'd normally need in a housesitter, but that said, it was unbelievable I found it in one! My house was left clean, my dogs friendly and happy, and I was notified something slight seemed different. My one dog doesn't like other doggies and the other one is stubborn and puts on the brakes sometimes. However, Eleanor and her boyfriend Jake took great care of my place and my doggies. I highly recommend Phyllis and her service. Prompt, reliable, professional, reasonable-- what more could you want???? The best!!! read more

Pooch, No Kitty. I wrote to this company looking for a cat sitter including a couple of overnights, because based on their website, that is what they offer. Dog and Cat sitting, including meds and overnights. The response I received was: "Sorry, we're not doing overnight for cats" - The response was so rushed and ill thought out that no one even signed the email. No explanation. No offer to help in any way regarding cat sitting without overnights. Basically ZERO customer service. Not remotely interested in my business. I am a reasonable person. I would understand if they took the time to actually compile an answer explaining why they no longer do the business they advertise they do. Pooch and Kitty is the name of the business. Kitty is one half of the business. Just offer an explanation, maybe a referral, or at the very least, sign your name. I come from a background that requires extremely high customer service, so this sort of thing baffles me. read more

At first, Pooch and Kitty gave adequate--not great--but adequate care. But we used them over about 2 years and their cat sitting care deteriorated. 1) They will not properly clean up after your pet. We came home to partially cleaned messes (cat vomit half-hardheartedly smeared around on the floor, dried out cat food all around the food bowls, improper use of litter locker). An expectation of cat sitting is keeping the pet areas clean, and cleaning up after their messes. We had cleaning supplies set out and they were not used. 2) We found medicine in our cat's food bowl. This was very upsetting. We had a fail-safe procedure: the medicine was given to him in a small scoop of baby food, he would gobble it down in about a minute, and once his bowl was clean, we would give him his regular food. 3) Overall, the impression we got is that they race in, throw some food and water in the bowls, take a stab at scooping the litterbox, and race out in less than 5 minutes. I don't remember what we paid, something like $20+ per visit, and we needed two visits a day for the medicine. This is not acceptable care for that price. I also have to question whether they actually did visit twice a day. 4) Our cats never seemed cared for when we returned home. They didn't seem happy. After we found our cat's medicine in his bowl, we decided not to use them again. We got housesitters to properly care for our pets. When we returned after using the housesitters, the cats were noticeably happier. read more
