I almost never leave bad reviews but the one thing I can't let go is being overcharged and it not being corrected. I booked a room months in advance, for 2 nights and upon arrival had my credit card swiped for $164, which I signed. After my visit, I noticed I was charged twice, totaling $328. I called, expecting it to be an easy fix. But to my shock, they refuse to correct it, claiming they charged for each night separately and couldn't find me to sign for another credit card transaction. I'm now fighting it with my credit card company and will look into reporting them to the better business bureau. I certainly would not have booked these rooms at this price! If you book here, be very careful with the charges as I see I'm not the only one that's had an issue. read more

I was a bit worried about the current state of the motel because I couldn't find any up-to-date reviews or photos online. This is the only dog friendly motel in Austin, NV so that really narrowed our options. When I called to book, the owner spoke very limited English which made asking any questions about the features/amenities of the motel a challenge. *I feel as a business owner who is providing a service, it would be important to learn key phrases and terms pertinent to your business to be able to better communicate with your clientele. * With cool overnight temps, I thought about leaving my dog in the truck and just booking at another motel, but I just couldn't do that to my dog. Check in was at 4pm and when we arrived the owner was still working on the rooms. There are 10 rooms and the parking lot is small so it got a bit awkward coming and going when the other guests arrived. The room was TINY! This is coming from someone who lives in an RV. It was difficult to even move around the room. One of us had to sit on the bed while the other person walked around. The room was stuffy with the only window being in the bathroom so I turned on the window unit AC. I decided to check the filter and sure enough it was filled w/ dust. It looked like a dryer lint trap. I rinsed it out in the sink. There was a sock and trash under the bed. The tiny bed was lumpy and saggy. The blanket was old and threadbare. Needless to say after a 9 hour drive, I didn't sleep well. There were no noises from the neighboring units,the shower pressure/temperature was nice, and the wifi was strong. read more

After a long drive we called ahead for a room, through broken English she advised all she had for the night was a house for $150. It felt like a rip but we were exhausted. When we arrived we found a sign that said 'No Rooms, Call," it is a 3-4 room hotel, when we got into the lobby it was full of crap, mostly ammonia and bleach bottles which freaked us out. She ran our card and said "ok follow me in my car," we drove up to the top of the hill. She led us to a double wide with 6 broke down vehicles parked in the driveway, and she climbed out of her car and grabbed a large purse and a bucket of water! She waved us to come out, and we followed her to the front door, she opened it up and there was a man sitting barefoot on a chair in front of the TV, she pushed us inside and shuttled us to the right hallway where there were two rooms and a bathroom. She insisted we choose a room, I couldn't get past the master locks on the outside of the bedrooms! I'm thinking she is going to lock us in while we are sleeping. I shook my head no, and my husband did the same, she told us there is no place to stay in town, and Eureka was sold out. I am not going to pay $150 for a strange hostel experience. We told her "No, refund our card" and she argued with us about a cancellation charge, we said "no" and she shoved us outside and turned the porch light off! Stay away from this crazy lady! read more

Price is pretty much no object when you've just driven several hundred miles on the Loneliest Road in America and you need a clean, comfortable place for a night. BONUS: They have one dog-friendly room (#6) which has two queen beds. Room cost was just under $70 for a Friday night. It was pretty basic, but there was a flat screen TV with some standard channels, plenty of hot water in the very clean bathroom, and you're right next door to the gas station with snacks in case you need to stock up on late night munchies (ahem), you're right next door to the dirt road that leads up to the abandoned castle with the MOST amazing sunset views, and you're a block or two away from the handful of gem and souvenir shops, cafes, and bars in town. Wifi is supposedly available, but I couldn't get it. If you're on AT&T for a cellular phone, you won't have much luck with service, but apparently Verizon users get better reception. read more

The only reason to stay in this motel is because you are too exhausted to keep driving until you can get to a decent place, Plan ahead and stop for the night in Fallon or Ely, depending on which direction you are travelling. We were charged an outrageous $107 for one night in a ramshackle room. The door locks didn't work so we piled our baggage against the inside of the door. The room itself was so small there was no space to walk between the bed and the wall. Despite making us wait an extra half hour before we could check in, the manager made no effort to clean the room. There were ants in the bathroom. They started out roaming around randomly but by the next morning they were getting organized. The soap in the bathroom was a small bottle of Palmolive. Austin in general is a dismal hellhole with nowhere decent to lodge or eat. It's a one-horse town with a dead horse. The BEST thing about the town and the hotel was that we had plenty of incentive to make a early start in the morning!! read more

katherine already said it. there is no great motel in austin. if you haven't arrived yet- go in knowing that. austin is in the middle of nowhere and chances are you're arriving when you're dead tired and it's too far to the next town in either direction. : ) there are three motels in town: pony canyon motel (western most) mountain motel (middle) lincoln motel (eastern most) all in a row- right on main street/ highway 50. the mountain motel is often full- or almost full- and the lot is packed full of huge trucks. i suspect there is a mine nearby that the workers come into town from. i haven't stayed there, but it appears to be a row of mobile home/trailers all strung together. the lincoln motel is often empty- or almost- but they won't answer the door after 9:00pm (even at 9:05) even if the lot is empty and they are inside the office, looking out at you.... never stayed there either, but it looks pretty beat down. the pony canyon is old, funky, and rustic... just like austin. the rooms seem pretty clean, but they are tiny (see my photo). i would expect that if you chose highway 50- you are either attracted to this strange, beautiful, lost part of the country and funky is fine by you... or someone has played a cruel trick at your expense. last but not least- chances are you won't have cell-reception in austin, so you won't be able to access this until it's too late. do your homework on mileage, gas mileage, and driving times between towns before you venture out onto the loneliest highway in america. read more

This is a no frills hotel, but very clean. The owners were friendly and wore masks. Dated furnishings but everything was functional. They were wiping down handles as we came in. I felt assured that they were being responsible and looking out public health. read more

There are really no great Motels in Austin, they are all about the same BUT this place is definitely the better one. The owner is super friendly, the rooms are clean and it is very quiet at night. It is definitely your no frills motel, but that is what one gets way out on the loneliest road (Hwy 50). There are no bugs and there is a small TV with cable. read more

Satellite TV and wi-fi work so much better now. Kim is beyond great, please tip her nicely, she does so much here. Your experience is still going to depend on what room you get, I've slept in most of them, the beds are good and the bathrooms are iffy. Absolutely the best place in Austin. read more

What the heck, I was just grateful for a tank of gas and a place to lay my head. It's a hick motel in a hick town, the room was fairly clean, but be careful you don't fall on your ass when walking on the board porch. I've been in a few places that were worse. 63 bucks for a single was OK, had to ask for some ice cubes, tv worked ok, room didn't stink---all in all, it's better than sleeping in your car! read more

The Pony Canyon Motel was a nice reprieve after a long drive. The owner, Kim, is very friendly and helpful. The room is small, but very clean and cozy. The town is quiet; we couldn't hear the gas station from our room. They are dog-friendly for an extra $10, total $74 for the night. I found refuge at the Pony Canyon Motel after foolishly trying, then failing to camp out during a thunderstorm near Austin, Nevada. Luckily, the Pony Canyon Motel was open and had a vacant room. The owner is friendly, and keeps the place clean and well-run. Rooms are simple and inexpensive, and the place has a nice, not-too-tacky western decore. I rarely stay in hotels or motels of any kind, and when I do, I don't look for anything fancy like room service or jacuzzis. So the Pony Canyon met my expectations for a clean, inexpensive room with good hot water and a friendly staff. There are a few hotels along main street (Route 50) in Austin, I recommend staying at the Pony Canyon Motel. read more

The room was very basic, though had a nicer TV. The manager overcharged us for a double room when we had requested a single bed. Instead of explaining that they were out of singles, she just charged our credit card without explanation for the extra bed. It was late and we were exhausted, so I didn't question it that night. Clean, quiet, perfect if you are trying to make it across NV and need to stop. A bit pricey for what you get, which is just a room. No wifi or fridge, microwave or coffee maker. it was $67 total for basically a bed and bathroom. But it was clean and quiet with a nice hot shower. read more

There are only three places to stay in Austin, Nevada, two being motels and one being a bed & breakfast, so you really don't have many choices in the town that only has three hundred people. The Pony Canyon Motel is the best place to stay out of the three, but if you can, KEEP GOING until you reach another town because this was one of the worst places I've ever stayed at. Tiny rooms. No room to walk. Beds are small; televisions even smaller. The bathroom was so old & out of date. It was clean, yet not worth the price. Owner is nice, but the place is just creepy. You can hear everything through the thin walls. Limited internet access, so can basically check your e-mail & that's it. The owner even tells you to not watch videos because the internet will shut down. Does have DirecTV, but televisions too small to see anything. No breakfast or pool; you're basically stuck in your room. There's also nothing to do in Austin, Nevada & they have one restaurant that's pricey & doesn't cook your food right, so only stay here is you HAVE to, otherwise, KEEP GOING! read more
