The Bottom Line Up Front: Ponchos Tacos serves up a variety of Latino dishes that are affordable and, most importantly, tasty. The Food: You can get a wide range of meals, from the usual tacos and burritos to less common mulitas and vampiros. I've tried a lot of their different options, and they are all solid, but will focus this review on my latest order: al pastor and carnitas tacos. Both had a fair amount of meat and were properly seasoned, with tortillas that were firm enough to keep things together but soft enough to enjoy. Were they the best tacos I've ever had? No, but I enjoyed them. The Atmosphere: It's a smallish medium-sized establishment with a mix of comfortable booth seating and tables. Everything is relatively clean and organized, though a bit spartan -- don't expect anything fancy. The Location: Ponchos has a State College Boulevard address, but you'll actually need to turn onto Walnut Avenue to access the parking lot. It's located in a small strip mall that's hard to spot from the road because State College Boulevard dips downward under a railroad bridge. However, there's usually free parking in the lot (as long as the nearby power lifting gym doesn't hold a competition, which always results in an overload of cars). The Pros: * Lots of different dishes with more proteins than the standard fare (i.e. lengua, shrimp.) * Customer service is usually very fast, friendly, and knowledgable. * Costs are affordable (unlike other shops that have jacked up their prices) * They offer free chips and salsa if you dine in The Cons: * During this past visit, the salsa bar had lemons instead of limes. * The bathroom meets the bare minimum but could definitely use a remodel (or at least a deep cleaning) The Conclusion: Ponchos Tacos is not perfect, but it's one of my go-to places when I want good street tacos, mulitas, or vampiros at an affordable price. read more

I purchased the 3 chicken taquitos and made it a combo with rice and beans for an additional 2.99. Also 1 horchata med. The food was average, chicken dried. But ok, the issue was the price, it was already a bit pricey however once I looked at the receipt, I noticed the price difference. I was being charged more than the price listed for food and drink. We asked why and they replied they haven't updated the prices on board. WTH.... Not ever eating there again. read more

My fiancé and I stopped by on a Tuesday around 4:30 and we were helped immediately. The workers were quick, helpful, and nice. The salsa bar had a good variety of salsas. I got 3 different tacos so I could try the different meats. I got 1 asada, 1 pastor, and one chicken and they were all so good! Great food, great service! Went with a group of 7 of us, including 5 kids, and every single one of us thought it was a 5/5! We ordered birria tacos, Al pastor mulitas, a chicken huraches, burritos, fries & horchata. The meal came with a free soup. I definitely recommend the Al pastor! They shave it from one of those meat spinner things- very flavorful! This is located in a random business park amongst a lot of industrial type of buildings but there was lots of parking. The staff was very sweet, as well! They also serve hamburgers, and the whole place gives diner vibes which we liked. Salsa bar had lots of choices, too! Worth the try!! read more

Sorry, but this place is not good at all.. I hate leaving bad reviews but this place doesn't deserve a good one. Place looked dirty and it wasn't even busy. Only one family sitting inside when we arrived. Employees are indifferent to people walking in.. not even a hello.. guy took our order and then about 5 minutes after was outside right next to the door smoking a cigarette. Yuk We ordered a torta de pastor, a quesa taco de chorizo, and 3 regular tacos de lengua & pastor. The torta was ok. Only thing I liked was the bread & tomatoe. The cheese tasted weird like cheap. And the pastor had absolutely no flavor. Wahh we love pastor usually. The lengua was super soft but also bland. And the chorizo was also not good then the cheese didn't make it any better. Also the salsas where all watery and had no flavor . We also tried the pineapple water and it was ok, not the best . Will not be back again unfortunately. read more

I really want to update my review - so hopefully that can happen soon. We ate here years ago and it was good and tasty. We really wanted some street style tacos after not getting enough tacos at a party and remembered this place. We looked on Yelp and it said their hours on Sunday are until 10pm. We tried calling the number on Yelp. Disconnected. We tried calling the number on Google maps. Mailbox full. So my husband drove down there to order. 8:20pm I get a call from my husband saying that they're closed and that they close at 8pm. This restaurant is a little different to get to because of how they redid the street, you will not see it on the main St your need to drive on Walnut to get in the parking lot. But it's easy once you understand how to get to the restaurant. The burrito was very good. It had lots of flavor with the rice and beans and all the good things they put inside. This place is more like a 3.5 out of 5 stars. This place is located in a strip mall, towards the back. Its also located next to a train track, so i wonder if the people working there get annoyed whenever trains pass by...lol. Anyways, since the coronavirus has made eating at restaurants impossible, i ordered on the yelp app via grubhub for takeout. (heads up, everything is more expensive on grubhub as i believe the resturant needs to pay the cost for using grubhub. if you want to order food, just call them up and save a few bucks). They said it would take roughly 20 mins to make the food, and i wasn't in a hurry and by the time i got there the food was ready for me to pick up. I ended up getting a Lengua Taco, Al Pastor Vampiro and Asada Vampiro. The taco was small but delicious. This was the first time i've had a "vampiro" and i have to say its kinda weird. not sure if this place makes it like normal vampiro... but its like eating a mexican hamburger, but the shells are like stronger tortilla chips. not sure if i like them. But the al pastor meat was really flavorful! They'll provide hot sauce if you ask, and the mild one was perfect with the food. I also ended up getting a pineapple juice, sized large, for 4 bucks. While staying in Fullerton, I looked up Mexican food on Yelp to see what's in the area. Poncho's Tacos caught our attention by the pics and the pineapple habanero hot sauce. We decided to give it a shot. It was a pretty empty restaurant when we got there and maybe part of the reason is because it's a little off the beaten path. Google maps initially took us to the wrong place. It's located in a factory area of Fullerton and is not that noticeable unless you're really looking for it. Anyways, we ordered three tacos (two carne asada and one al pastor) and a carne asada torta along with a horchata. Service was quick and we dug in. The meat was good but the salsa definitely knocked it up a star. The pineapple habanero sauce in particular was most interesting and tasteful. The horchata was good as well. It's raining tacos and I need a poncho! Fail. Hadn't eaten tacos in a while and found this place on Yelp. Local taco joint in Fullerton with a lot of parking located in an awkward street corner. The guy who took my order was intimidating but friendly and he called me brother which was pretty cool because the guy before he called boss. The tacos here are pretty good. I think you can't go wrong with the queso tacos, mulitas, or vampiro's...essentially anything with cheese brings these tacos up a notch. My favorite meat is the carne Asada while the al pastor is ok. The picture of their Al pastor cooking on the vertical spit is what drew me in. It's a thing of beauty in pictures and just as magnificent in person. Al pastor is my favorite taco meat so it was a must. Everything here is made from scratch including the tortillas. They have tacos, burritos, quesadillas, vampiros, mulitas, and tortas. Al Pastor taco: Even though the al pastor was fantastic it wasn't the best I've had, definitely near the top though. Meat was very tender and flavorful. I liked the avocado based sauce they put in the taco along with onions and cilantro. In the salsa bar they had a surprisingly spicy habanero pineapple salsa that complimented the meat perfectly since al pastor is cooked with pineapple. I felt it was a good amount of meat for the price. Chorizo taco: Wow, this was the best chorizo I've had. Most taquerias have some dry crumples of chorizo served as an afterthought. Not here! This was moist, chunky, and SPICY AS HELL! So much flavor I was blown away. Truly spicy though so be warned. I'm thinking maybe habanero is added to it. Carne Asada vampiro: Never had a vampiro before. They cook the tortilla on the griddle until it turns hard and gets the texture of a baked corn chip. They also melt cheese onto it that turns into that delicious texture when cheese gets a big burnt on the griddle. I wasn't sure how to eat it so I used the top tortilla as a chip to eat some salsa with and then I ate the bottom cheesy tortilla like a tostada. Again, the running theme here is high quality tender meat. The asada was melt in your mouth tender with zero chewy pieces. The Mulita is pretty much the same thing but the tortillas being soft instead of crispy. To wash all this amazing lunch down I picked one of their many homemade aqua frescas. I went with one called "pepino" which is made from cucumbers, lemon juice, and chia seeds. It was very refreshing and only slightly sweet. Fantastic place for a taqueria fix. High quality ingredients, friendly service, and plenty of seating in a very clean dining room. They also take credit cards! read more

Two words: AL PASTOR. You can them on on tacos, burritos, vampiros, mulitas, quesadillas or tortas but you HAVE to get it! I would eat them straight off the döner kebab machine if I could. The tacos were bomb, even my kid approves of them and he can be picky. The meat was good, not dry but not too greasy either. The tortilla was soft and tasted homemade. The toppings are optional but 10/10 times, I would get everything on my tacos. My food came out quick too! Dope spot for cheap but delicious Mexican Food. For me, this place was ok, nothing spectacular. As you walk in, no one greets you which is bad customer service in my opinion. They also don't have a taco tuesday. WTH. The tacos are still decently priced though. I ordered one shrimp taco, one chorizo taco, and one asada mulita. I have to say I really enjoyed the mulita over the tacos. The meat tasted fresh and I loved how much cheese was added inside. The chorizo tasted old and dry and I totally didn't care for it. The shrimp was better. The shrimp sauce had a nice flavor and you get about a handful of shrimp in your taco. I guess the whole vibe of the place is what really got their score down.
