BEWARE: AVOID THIS PLACE. I have never written a Yelp review before today, but my experience at Ponce Dental Group was so exceptionally bad that I feel compelled to. I scheduled a routine cleaning as a new patient. I practice generally very good dental hygiene, floss daily, etc. I show up and get x-rays, etc. and then before the cleaning the doctor comes into the office, looks at my teeth, and tells me I'll need some extra level of cleaning that would put my out of pocket at around $280 (I have insurance that covers a basic cleaning, as is standard). Now look I expect dentists to try to up-charge you nowadays and I'm very used to politely declining to spend hundreds of dollars on a night guard. What made my experience so insanely frustrating is that when I tried to decline treatment, the DOCTOR REFUSED TO DO A ROUTINE CLEANING. He said it would be against office policy to give me a routine cleaning after they'd already assessed that I needed some special expensive one. Here's how a visit to PDG will go, just so everyone is aware of the kafkaesque experience beforehand: (1) You'll arrive, get x-rays. (2) The dental assistant will tell you the doctor needs to come in to assess "what type of cleaning you'll need." If you ask about costs, the assistant will say she doesn't do that. (3) The doctor will come in and check your teeth and make some sort of decision, then tell you to wait to talk with the manager. If you ask about costs, the doctor will say he doesn't do that. (4) Some manager will come in, tell you that the doctor recommended these things that will cost X dollars over your insurance. When you ask if you can just have a routine cleaning like you came for, the manager will tell you she can't make diagnosing decisions. (5) When the doctor returns, he will tell you no he can't change it. Thus, after spending an hour and getting x-rays, you will learn that if you want to actually get your teeth cleaned, you'll need to pony up a significant out of pocket cost. There were also just a ton of infuriating moments of this visit today: The doctor basically ignored me when I told him that I've had sensitive gums my entire life (despite flossing regularly) and that I've never been told to get a more expensive cleaning. Plus, only after I threatened to leave a bad review online, they decided that they could find a way to waive the fees and skip some of the more expensive stuff (guess it wasn't so important after all!). Tl;dr: all dentists, especially those owned by private equity, are trying to take you for a ride. This office reminded me why I haven't trusted a dentist in years. Was told I needed a root canal and had seven cavities. I haven't had cavities in over 10 years and had no pain on the tooth that supposedly needed a root canal, so I sought a second opinion. The second dentist said I have zero cavities and no need for a root canal. It's evident Ponce Dental Group prioritizes profits over their patients' wellbeing as they were insistent I needed an immediate root canal to "save" (their exact words) a healthy tooth. The treatment plan they suggested was going to be $2k out of pocket. If you care about your money and don't want unnecessary medical treatment, go somewhere else. read more

First visit here. I decided my other dentist wasn't being as thorough as they should be so I asked a friend who said he uses Ponce Dental Group. What a difference! They did a great job of showing me exactly where I need to be concerned about wear and tear, and what needs to be monitored. Olivia did a great job walking me through additional routine care at home that is manageable and will make a difference. Dr. Toub also gave me practical and realistic suggestions so I keep my teeth strong and healthy. Bonus points to Lena and the reception staff for making my switch to them a really good decision. read more

Let me start by saying if I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. I had to get a root canal as soon as possible and with the independent insurance I had it was hard to find a location near me. I fell upon Ponce Dental Group, and I was a little cautious due to the reviews on yelp, but I noticed that all the bad reviews were from years ago, so I decided to give them a try. When I arrived on the 29th of July, I was greeted by Ashley and Douglas at the front. Very nice people but I later found out they were magicians. I was called to the back for some Xrays and so forth. At the end of my Xray, they went over the price with me for a root canal which we all know can be quite a bill. Douglas was very understanding and brought up a payment plan that they could work with me on which is right up my lane because who wants to pay $3,000 upfront. I agreed, and appointment to get my temporary crown was set for the next day, with my root canal booked for the 15th of August. My appointment was scheduled for 3:30pm, but after a sleepless night of tooth pain I called the office as soon as they opened next day to see if I could get an earlier appointment. Douglas answered the phone and was able to schedule me for an 11:45am appointment, which was exactly what I needed. When I arrived, I was greeted by Ashely and Paul at the front. Once I checked in, Ashley took a look at my charges, and said "Let me play with the numbers real quick". Play with the numbers she did. Ashley was able to get my bill down by $1300! I'm not sure if you guys are aware of the economy at the moment, but that $1300 is needed! I still can't thank her enough. I was called to the back by Essence, one of the assistants. She was great. Very professional, explained everything to me and made sure I was ok in every stage of the process. After I got settled in I got to see Dr.Briggs. Dr.Briggs was amazing. Great energy, and made me very comfortable with explaining to me the steps we were taking. While I was working with Dr.Briggs, the office was behind the scenes working and actually found a way for my 8/15 root canal to happen today! This was so convenient because I work through the week and taking days off for dental appointments is kind of a lose lose situation with not making money and spending money at the same time. The process working with Dr.Briggs was painless, and he made sure I let him know when something was wrong. After seeing Dr.Briggs I went to Dr.Haber for the root canal. Diamond, the assistant helping Dr.Haber, was also very helpful and professional. She made things run very smooth. I don't know how much they get paid but I will vote yes for a raise for all the assistants. Dr.Haber did an amazing job, and again the process was painless. She explained to me the healing process and then I was off to Dr.Briggs for my permanent crown. I was then again with Dr.Briggs and Essence and the process for the final appointment was quick and easy. I left very satisfied and felt prioritzed. What an amazing first experience. I have found my office. Thank you again everyone involved, I am no longer in pain and I am smiling again. read more

To start, I'm not a big fan of dentists. And coming to Ponce Dental Group not only heightened my dislike for dentists, but carved out a huge hole in my wallet. I went to Ponce Dental Group last year for a check-up. Everything was routine, from the x-rays (which wasn't a pleasant experience, but let's skip that) up until the consultation. I was seen by an Asian dentist that was working there, that's all I remember about her. So during the consultation, she recommended a deep cleaning down to the root of my teeth, which was fine. She also noticed a cavity on one side of my mouth (which, sure, I haven't seen a dentist in a long time, so that wasn't so surprising). Then, she suggested that I get several teeth around that cavity EXTRACTED. Hearing those words petrified me to my core. Extracted? I have never been told to get my teeth extracted. And before I could say anything, she asked when I wanted to make an appointment to take out my back teeth. I kindly (and fearfully) asked just for the deep cleaning (which was also really painful experience). I left the office with a HUGE bill for my cleaning and consultation and a look at a bill for my eminent tooth extraction. So why am I writing this review now? Because I live in Seattle where I saw a dentist, and my dentist saw the cavity during the check-up and offered a filling for one, possibly two, teeth. He had NO idea why my previous dentist recommended a tooth extraction. I shudder to think that if I stayed with the dentist in at Ponce Dental Group, I would have two teeth missing from my mouth. And a devastating larger hole in my wallet. I am fuming with anger to think that I would be a victim of possible malpractice. So why two stars instead of one? Disappointing. Took off work to come here. Then they could not find my appointment and said my insurance was not covered. I spoke to them over the phone to confirm. Office staff tried to be helpful but told me it was their "generosity" to try and address this. Will consider changing this review if they ever do actually follow up. I went to see this dentist in January 2022. They have a very professional modern set up which is pleasing. I came in for a routine cleaning which is covered fully by my insurance. However, at check out I was told I had to pay a $30 "co-insurance." My plan doesn't have co-insurance!! The lady at Aetna when I called to dispute said they had no idea what the office charged me because they didn't levy that charge through insurance. That was something their office just tacked on. I asked the office for a receipt for that $30 to find out what it was and they sent back a receipt that just showed they charged my card $30. No additional explanation what I paid for. I hope their temporary closure becomes a permanent one. I think they're crooks. read more

They closed the office (supposedly temporarily until August) and never bothered to inform their patients! Further.... I have emailed several times, to no avail, even spoke with the answering service. But nothing was mentioned in the way of the office temporarily closing - the answering service sounded like they were trying to hide something. Anyhoooo - they've done a good bit of work on my teeth (which I am pleased with) but I need to get my temporary crown (of 3 months) removed and a permanent one put on. Guess I'll need to start all over with a new dentist (once again ). Their office management staff is friendly enough but everything seems super disorganized and chaotic there. A simple explanation to that could very well be that there are just way too many people in this city and perhaps every dentist office is dealing with the same difficulty in trying to manage too many patients. My experience began as soon as I stepped inside. I was embraced with nothing less than kindness and empathy. No judge zone. I wasnt just another patient, I was THE patient for the entire duration of my consultation. It was very personal. The entire staff was amazing. I laughed, I cried, and shared my journey. I've finally hit my year mark with Ponce Dental Group! It's been long over due writing this review but I highly recommend anyone looking for a dentistry to come here. I was nervous when I first visited but everyone really made me feel at ease and welcomed. Even when I had an emergency root canal, Dr. Sconion and the team walked me through the process and made sure I was okay and comfortable throughout the whole procedure. Not only that but they have affordable payment plans with 0% interest making it financially feasible for me. As a patient, I really appreciate the staff addressing all my concerns and explaining any treatment needed. Again, I highly recommend Ponce Dental Group to everyone. read more

My whole family scheduled appointments here for annual cleanings. 30 minutes before my appointment was due, I get a call saying my appointment is canceled. The rest of my family then called and found out that our 4 appointments throughout the month were canceled without them notifying us. July 2020 - I had oral surgery performed by periodontist Dr. Williams. She removed an infected implant, packed the cavity with bone chips and membrane and stitched the gums back together. This was an extremely painful disaster for which I paid $2300 after my insurance paid their portion. Although I followed recovery instructions, the gums never healed, all of the bone chips and membrane disappeared, and I landed up with another infection in the surgical site. I was in extreme pain for weeks and Dr. Williams would not see me although I offered to go anywhere in Atlanta to be seen. Imagine being told to stick an iPhone into the back of your mouth and send her pictures of the surgical site!! October 2020 - I had the surgery completely redone by a periodontist in MN. The difference between the MN and Ponce Dental experience were night and day. The MN periodontist was comprehensive in her examination of comorbidities that might impact surgery and recovery, empathic to my pain and previous experience, and informative about educating me to the surgery and recovery risks and remediations. She spent a great deal of time answering all my questions. I have also learned that Ponce Dental Group is part of a DSO organization that incents their practitioners to drive revenue instead of focusing on patient care. Everyone gets a daily revenue target. I would not recommend Ponce Dental Group or their contracting specialists for any service. read more

To begin, I'm a medical professional and throughly understand the patient consent to service and billing process. I wasn't going to leave a negative review after my experience but after the bill I received for a routine exam and cleaning, I felt inclined to do so to warn others of the unprofessional and deceitful service I received. To begin, I had a 3pm appointment. I started with the tech getting (in my opinion) an excessive amount of X-rays and imaging. The tech was rough and took multiple images of the same place (3 to 4 images per bite.) I'm not a dentist but this seemed unusual compared to every other dentist I've ever been to. I asked the tech and the dentist about the excessive amount of imaging and was reassured it was "routine." The imaging process alone took 45 minutes and was uncomfortable and at times painful. I had a pleasant dentist but the time it took to see him and then the tech for the polishing took me almost 2 hours. 2 hours for a routine cleaning and exam. The tech was extremely rough, forcing floss into my gums and at one point, even required me to push her hands out of my mouth because she was fish-hooking my lip back so tight. Between the dentist and the tech, I had water sprayed down my face and neck twice (not a splash as expected at the dentist but full on water, enough to get on my clothes.) The tech polished my teeth for about 2 minutes, leaving grit and spots in the back of my mouth that weren't even cleaned. I checked out and was assured I wouldn't have to pay because my insurance covers cleanings and exams twice yearly. I left this office with the mindset that I would not return. Last week, I received a bill for $469. I called my insurance to clarify and they confirmed my cleaning and exam was covered 100%, as the office stated. My insurance informed me that they did extensive imaging, charging multiple times for different types of imaging. This is inappropriate and unethical on so many levels, including restricting patient consent to services. This is schemey and honestly as a healthcare provider, is unethical and goes against every moral concept of providing services to others. There was, at no point, information given to me that I would be charged almost $500 for imaging. Had I known that, I would not have consented to that service. It honestly disgusts me that this practice preys on people trying to come in for dental health maintenance and takes advantage of them. This practice and shameful and the technical quality of their service isn't any better. There are way too many dental offices in Atlanta. Consider taking your business to honest and forthright providers. read more

So far, everyone in this clinic has been cordial, patient, and extremely helpful, with the notable exception of the actual dentist, Dr. Sconion. It is extremely hard to give this place a single star because of how nice everyone else (from the office manager/check in staff to the hygienist to the periodontist who performed the implant), but unfortunately I cannot recommend it for the sole reason that the main dentist is impatient and doesn't seem very competent. Exceptional , every one was so nice and took such good care of me I felt like we were all family. The facilities are clean and modern with TV's in each room so u are occupied while waiting for the doctor ...now to get to the real part man when I tell you Dr. Sconion brought my mouth back to make me feel young again I mean it! I was really scared because its been so long since ive been to a dentist but he calmed my worries and got right in and tackled my issues expeditiously with confidence I am more than positive this will be my family and i dental location for yearrrrs to come! Also I felt very little pain which is really rare bcuz I. The past I always felt intense pain during procedures so that was a huge plus too. I'm telling all my friends about this place .
