I was looking forward to a legit small-town baked goods and picked up a couple donuts and a cinnamon roll before headed to some local trails. I ordered asked for an apple cider donut, and while she was grabbing that I was looking at what else to get, I ended up getting a Boston Creme donut and a cinnamon bun. Later on the trail when I opened bag to eat the goods, I saw that instead of an apple cider donut I'd been given some sort of chocolate donut? I guess that's my bad for not checking, but it's hard to imagine how apple cider donut gets misheard. As it turns out, the chocolate donut and the cinnamon bun were inedible. They were so dry and stale. The chocolate donut was so dry it literally fell apart into crumbs. I was eating these at noon, so it's not like they were end of day goods. The Boston Creme did taste fresh and it was okay, but 1 out of 3 is pretty bad odds. read more

The crumb cake is the best I've ever had and I've had lots of crumb cake puts Styertowne and BW two shame

Place looks like time forgot, but that's okay by me. Everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) I've had there over the years has been great, and the prices are more than fair. Crumb cake and Meltaways are stand outs. My go-to bakery. Not too many traditional bakeries like this anymore. Don't understand some of the negative comments, as I often have polite small talk with everyone working there. Nadi and his family are A-OK by me! (PS: They usually take most of August off for vacation, so plan accordingly.) read more

Yo this lady lowkey be tweaking off her mind. Some people need to retire and stop making food that feels like it's years old. Never come here unless you want some stale ass cake, attitude, and a very unwelcoming environment. This place used to be fine, now this shit actually sucks . read more

I love this bakery! I go there several times a times a week to get sandwich rolls a cruller. Family owned business, wholesome ingredients. All baking done on site. Huge selection and reasonable prices. (cash only) Ample parking for customers behind the building. Easy access. read more

I order cakes from here, and they are always delicious. This is a traditional bakery. It has all of the pastries and bakes the types of cakes you desire. When I go in, I have a hard time picking up only what I ordered because everything looks so delicious. read more

I find pompton bakery to be exceptional. I go in a few or more times per month sometimes two or three times in the same week. Today I got croissants, small meltaways, crumb cake, a cheese ring, fresh baked bread and a blueberry muffin. All were excellent. The cheese ring and baked bread were for a neighbor and he phoned me to say they were delicious. I'll continue to go there regularly. And I'd like to point out that the owner Nadia, is a great guy, very personable. read more

Was just in the area and wanted some sweets and I happen to come across this small bakery in town. It's a really small bakery. But nonetheless it's cozy inside. Everything you'll want in a small shop, they have cookies, cupcakes, bagels, pastries etc. my favorite was the rainbow cookies, the tri color Italian cookies/cake. I gotten a few of everything when I was there. My opinion the Oreos cupcake were delicious. read more

Pompton Lakes Bakery - a display of cakes and pastries - Bakeries Near Me - Pompton Lakes, New Jersey

I tried this place 3 times each time the same thing happened. I thought I would give them a chance to help out the small business. Yesterday I bought a maple walnut cake from here. Came home served it to my guests. I was never so embarrassed. The cake was so stale like it was made weeks ago and frozen. The icing was rancid. Next day many of us had gotten stomach issues. Stay away from this place. read more

Was in Pompton and needed to grab some cupcakes at the last minute... unfortunately, I have to agree with the other reviews that their baked goods are stale and there was a pretty curt attitude. I wouldn't have dinged them much for the latter, I'm used to attitude in this area of NJ, but the freshness issue really ruins it. It's odd how consistent that complaint has been - at some point someone must have bought fresh baked goods from them? It's not as if they start out stale. Maybe those people just don't leave reviews. read more

My neighbor told me she was going to pick up a pie and cookies and I was intrigued. She raved it was the only way how to do all her baking.... So fast forward~ This past Thanksgiving they made my family really happy by cooking Snowflake rolls. I picked them up that holiday morning. They were perfect for our meal and leftovers. An excellent local place with fresh delights. read more

THIS PLACE DISAPPOINTED AND EMBARRASSED ME. HAPPY BITHDAY ?! And the writing is absolutely horrendous... It's my moms 54th birthday and this is the shit that happens? The woman on the phone had some extreme attitude problems too. We want our money back and a new cake . Should've went to stop and shop instead. They NEVER disappoint. Get it together. UPDATE : IT IS ALSO STALE JUST HAD A PIECE . The icing is hard and the cake itself is crumbling and dry . Wow . read more

Ok with service and variety. I want to support local businesses and love the location for convenience but hate the cash only option

Let me start off by saying we are big supporters Of small businesses, being owners in the food industry of a mom and pop specialty shop. . I would only write a review to help a business, but today's experience was beyond disgusting. Being in retail & working with customers day after day for 30 years, we know it takes a certain personality to be able to do it. When my store opens its doors each day, it's like being on stage so we put a smile on and we give our customers 110%. Walking into Pompton Lakes bakery this morning right out the gate felt eerie. Forget that the place itself felt like I was walking in a time warp. An older woman walks out with the biggest Puss on her face , doesn't even say hello & just looks at me. So I looked at her and jovial said "good morning how are you". You would think anyone would respond with. " good how are you ". she says "OK". For a split second I thought I was on candid camera. I asked her the difference between the melts away and different danish rings, and in a rough gruff voice she explains. Then we're on to the donuts, I was not sure how many I was going to get what is the big deal. At first I said eight , but I would like them in different boxes. Well when I asked her for different boxes she had a hissy fit and says. "I just put together the dozen size box". I looked at her and said "seriously are you kidding you are arguing with me over a box". And then I told her "she was the rudest person I've ever had to deal with, I am a customer". She honestly could care less. It was as if my $42.50 was nothing. Honestly if I wasn't going to see my grandkids I totally would've left. But I held my composure and knew she was just an ugly miserable person. As good as their meltaway's might be I would never step foot in that bakery ever again They should be embarrassed to have someone like her representing them and if I can make a suggestion they should take my $42.50 and send the old lady to a class in customer service. So hey, if you'd like to go somewhere either for a good laugh or to get abused have At it, otherwise shop elsewhere. read more

Small mom and pop bakery that is cash only. I have picked up churros here, cheese danish and some cookies which both have been good. Staff seems friendly and helpful. Every time I have been in the shelves have slim pickings so not sure if they were busy and wiped out or they just don't have a large selection of baked goods. When is the area and need a dessert or a sweet treat, I will stop back in but wouldn't go out of my way. read more

Nothing worse than stale baked goods. We purchased a menagerie of items & unfortunately, most proved to be "past their prime". I hate leaving negative reviews but I was really embarrassed after bringing these wares to a party of friends I rarely get to see. We ended up throwing them out. :( read more

I am a lifetime resident of Pompton Lakes and remembered when this bakery was good. Now it seems that everything I get is stale - cake, bread, cookies etc. when my 10 yr old son doesn't want to finish his cookie because "it's too hard" there is a problem. read more

Do not go there unless you want poor service and at least in my case stale bread. My purchase was a large rye OK baked today NO and the price was $5.75 a bit pricey no matter how you slice stale bread. The women took it out of the re-frig out of sight but still cold. Parking a complete segment yo this one and DONE. read more

We went there to get some bread and some pastries and boy so we regret it. My husband got an eclair and Churro and the churro was harder than frozen pole! I went against my judgement of reading some comments on this page and listened to my co-worker who said " this place is awesome. I came here to order my fiance a cake for her birthday. To begin I went the day before around 3pm and asked if it was possible to make me a cake for tomorrow at around this time? he said yes no probem. The cake was done and i went to check up on it the next day. They had the cake already made and ready to eat. We got home and tasted it. I've been trying to eat healthy but when u have a spot like this in town it makes it hard to stay away....ohhhh and you absolutely have to try the almond bars u can not go wrong I can't help but get one now every time I go read more

Two stars is generous and I can't give it. I agree with the other 2 reviews in that things here are STALE and that's not the way a bakery should be! I have no problem driving to Mazurs for some good stuff, I'll definitely never return to this bakery. I'm surprised they even stay open since anyone else I"ve spoken to, the first thing they say is "Stale." read more

The absolute best bakery around!! Iced crumb buns, crumb buns and coffee cakes are fabulous!!

I have never had a bad experience at this bakery and have been coming for years. The woman behind the counter is a bit crabby but she's grown on me. It is cash only so be prepared. I highly recommend the melt away cake. A huge MOIST iced crumb cakey thingy that is absolutely amazing!!! I bring this cake to every gathering and we call it "crack cake" because it is so addicting and demolished by the end if the night. The bread is always good and fresh. Never had an issue with anything being stale. The hot cross buns and iced crumb cakes for Easter are always fresh and moist. My family has all relocated to South Jersey and you know what that means...not a good bakery in sight! I always load up here on my way down to deliver the goods. It's a shame they have gotten some bad reviews since it's rare to find a good bakery anymore. Give them a shot and not late in the day when things are picked over and might not be as fresh. Get your butt out of bed and get there early!!! read more

The muffin from here was good, but the surly staff and countless warnings about cash only make the experience less than optimal here. The muffin was fairly crumbly and a tad on the dry side, but the flavor was strong and good. The staff who was slow and cranky turned me off though. I will sadly probably continue to patronize the friendly staff at the nearby Starbucks. read more

I wish everything tasted a little more fresh. You don't go into a bakery expecting the quality of their pastries to be less tasty than a chain like Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks. The bread was also stale, especially the end pieces. Disappointing. read more

This is my favorite bakery. I love the sprinkle cookies the best. Yes, The owner is usually cranky and they do try to push the old stuff on you to get rid of it. I've gone there enough to know to ask for what was made fresh today. If you do that you will have no problems here. read more

Bought pastries here for Mother's Day to bring to a family dinner. The pastries were stale. They were hard and tasteless. Very disappointed, I called the bakery to express my concern. Even more disappointing the owner was rude. She indicated I had to warm them up. I'm sorry, fresh pastries do not require heat as a prerequisite. She mumbled something about them being frozen, which would explain why they were hard, but sad if they were pre-frozen. Then she said she was closing up and "what do you want me to do about it." I explained I could get right there, but she hung up. I will never buy from this place again. read more

I work in Pompton Lakes and was searching for a bakery in order to purchase a strawberry shortcake birthday cake. I was a bit leery of this bakery after reading the previous reviews; however, I purchased a black and white and a linzer tort cookie in order to check it out. Both were excellent! I ordered the cake and picked it up today. It was fresh, delicious and beautifully decorated. The service was courteous and friendly as well. The store itself could use a face lift; perhaps a fresh coat of paint would do the trick... read more
