a variety of food items on a table

I started purchasing my pound of fresh poi from taro flown in from Kauai. You can catch them at Kaneohe Farmers Market at the Windward Mall, Sunday's. I buy my poi before heading to Waiahole Poi Factory. It's is reasonable price versus regular supermarkets which is outrageous and unaffordable at $9.99 to $14.99. I'm growing my own hopefully get a potato size Lehua Taro...Lol! They have Kulolo, Ulu poi, desserts that go fast (Lilikoi, guava) and reasonable. You should check them out! There are other items that can be added like hot sauces....regular, Lilikoi, and guava. Of course, everywhere must wear your masks....short review! Be safe everyone...Ciao!

Kulolo at Windward Mall Farmers' Market in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii... I was actually just looking for veggies for dinner when I passed by a vendor that caught my attention. Pomai Kulolo What's kulolo? It's like a delicious Hawaiian mochi made from grated taro and coconut milk. I've seen taro being grated - it's labor intensive! So - I appreciate all of the hard work that goes into making kulolo. I approached the nice lady under her outdoor canopy to ask about her display. She explained that the kulolo is $6 and the other items (lilikoi haupia, guava haupia, and haulolo) are 3 for $10. The guava glaze and Passionfruit glaze on the haupia (like a coconut milk jello) were intriguing. I wanted to try them all, so she gave me a deal - all 4 items for $15! Whoa! Thanks! When i got home, i immediately tasted them all! Yummy goodness! Mmm! Can't wait to go back and get more of these unique treats!

Been craving Kulolo for a while & I'm so happy that they came on this side of the island (Ewa/Kapolei) (: the first time we purchased kulolo from them was at the Waianae farmers market a while ago & haven't been able to make it down there due to our busy schedule. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone craving poi, kulolo, haulolo & even their fish! Today was the first time we got fish from them & we was not disappointed! Everything was fresh as ALWAYS. **Follow them on Facebook & instagram so you can be updated with their location & time (: you won't be disappointed**

I decided to try this new vendor at the April's Eat the Street event on South Street. Although there was no line, they were giving out samples of their Haupia/Kulolo ("Haulolo") dessert. Haulolo - 3 stars - it was ok, but they use canned coconut milk, so it doesn't taste as fresh as Yama's Fish Market. I don't really care for the Kulolo though. I think it's an acquired taste, plus it wasn't cold since it was on the table and not in a cooler. Pork (but since the ETS theme bacon, they also used bacon) Laulau - 5 stars - Very reasonable for a $6 plate of a laulau and rice at the Eat the Street event. I wasn't super hungry, so this laulau hit the spot. The leaves were as fresh as it could be with a nice smoke flavor to it. The sweet potato was also cooked just right and very fresh, and not too big of a slab of meat to make this a nice lite dinner. I'd definitely order this again. The staff was very friendly and nice. I then saw them selling their haupia and Haulolo dessert at the Home and Garden show at the NBC, but I am craving for their laulau!

I came across Pomai Kulolo at the farmer's market held at Fort Street Mall in downtown Honolulu. I love this Kulolo. It's nice and moist and just pure yummy!!! There were two sizes, a small one and a large one. The smaller size is $6 and the bigger size I think was $10. I've been searching various markets to buy more but I can't find it. Supposedly, Times Supermarket carries it sometimes but I have seen any recently. Next time I find some I will be stocking up! Try this Kulolo. It's super good!

PRODUCTS: $6 EACH - Haupia (coconut dessert w/similar consistency to Jello) - Kulolo (ancient Hawaiian dessert; presently, it's made w/ kalo [taro], coconut milk + sugar) - has a thicker texture, and, although da buggah looks small, it can be quite filling. Sweet flavor that's not too overwhelming. - Haulolo (bottom has thin kulolo layer, top has thicker haupia layer) - Poi (cooked corm of the kalo plant that is mashed up + water is added to reach desired viscosity) - subtle and mildly sweet. As local as I am, I never cared for eating poi, but the employee suggested some people like adding sugar to their poi. Came home, added Splenda, and now I can say I actually like eating poi. Half da container stay gone ;) * On Fri., I stopped by their Fort Street Mall location at 11:30 AM + I got a great deal: choose any 4 products for $20! WEA DEY STAY? Sun - Leeward Farmers Market (FM), Windward Mall FM Mon - CLOSED Tues - Fort Street Mall Open Market Wed - Windward Mall FM Thurs - Kapolei High FM Fri - Fort Street Mall Open Market Sat - Pearlridge Mall FM, Wai'anae FM * Subject to change. Refer to their schedule on their website for up-to-date info: http://pomaikulolo.com/where-to-buy ** Found at Eat the Street events, too! CASH ONLY! No other payment method accepted. FREE SAMPLES! Of any of their products, so just ask! No be shame! DO YOU KNOW HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO FIND KULOLO ON O'AHU?! Foodland, Yama's, and Shirokiya (Ala Moana) occasionally have it, but usually you pay an arm and a leg (plus kidney and second unborn child) for a manini (small) piece ... and they usually run out. I haven't had good kulolo in years and immediately bought 3 of them, 1 of their poi, and 1 haupialolo. INTERESTING FACTS - You can freeze kulolo if you know you aren't going to eat it right away (like, within a day)! Same can be done with rice and mochi. When you're ready to eat it, you just have to nuke it in the microwave for a short period of time. - In ancient times, kulolo used to be cooked in an imu (underground oven heated with rocks) for 6-8 hours. - Founded in 2008, it's owned/operated by Keanuenue Kekaula who uses an 'ohana (family) recipe; when he originally started, he'd sell it by the side of the road at various locations around O'ahu. I asked at the market 2 days ago, "how long will it keep?", 5 days they told me... in the fridge. But we'll never know. I doubt it ever makes it that long in my house. So YUMMY

This kūlolo is simply wonderful. Just the right consistency. Best eaten fresh, but hold its own for a few days if kept tightly sealed and in a cool place. I'd highly recommend enjoying this product...I know I always look forward to it.

Just the container, I ate it all up!

This is one of the up and coming farmers markets that always has me coming back to see what's new…read more Each and every time I visit them there are new vendors or live entertainment or Something going on! My favorite things to buy here are of course the fresh produce (a given), paia'i from Hanalei and his Kahaluu lo'i, the complete meals that are $5 and up, and random knick nacks from local crafters. The produce: One vendor, Melissa (or Ala as I know her as) always hooks me up with ulu (bread fruit) or avacado, or star fruit if it's in season, for example. I always ask her to pick me out the good stuff. She of course will ask what I'm going to do with the produce so she can give me what I'm looking for. As in how ripe an avocado do I need? I am always grateful to her and her honest picks. And never am I sorry for asking! Then I usually peruse the other stalls to find what might make my recipes pop. I really like to buy local and when I do I'm always happy with the taste and freshness. This past weekend it was bananas, garlic, and a papaya form one, then some carrots and onions from another... It's actually very therapeutic and fun! If I get there early enough Hanalei usually has a bag of paia'i for me, and I can enjoy the live music he has lined up if I'm not in a rush to get home. The complete meals are super yummy. I always have to have a baked spaghetti plate! The rest of my order depends on who's with me that day or what I'm ono for on the fly. I admit I often buy enough plates to keep me and my keiki in food heaven all weekend. Such things as pastele stew with gandule rice, or shoyu chicken. My daughter loves the kalua pig and cabbage with long rice. Next weekend we are definitely going to give the Filipino food a try. And if you're in Kaneohe town on a Saturday morning before noon definitely go check it out. Parking is free and the vendors are all really friendly and helpful. But don't eat all my baked spaghetti before I get there! Lolz.

Don't let that get you nervous tho. If you have unresolved issues with the HPD or late books at the library...no one will turn you in...LOL. There is a much larger farmer's market at the Windward Mall twice a week and another in Kailua on thursdays. The Ben Parker market is small and quiet. Mostly produce stands. So if you need low cost fresh produce this is the place to go on Saturday AM. Have you been to the Safeway Produce Dept lately? Oh Man!! Start going to the farmers market before you spend way too much money. There was a lobster tail guy there along with a couple of hot food stands. The food looked hot and freshly cooked. I didn't get to try the hot food but it looked good. Mostly, local Korean and Filipino style. None of the "name" vendors or food trucks here but like I said it looked good. I'd go back and wait in line just to taste that sweet goodness one more time. Can you see the afterglow on my face? Yep, that's from the roll. I'd love to see this market get bigger, with a few more produce vendors so there's some more competition for prices -- great variety of ready-to-consume eats though, and the perfect place to stop for a quick n cheap din on the way home.
